2) Does anyone know the odds of running into a shiny at different chain lengths (e.g the odds at 5, 10, 15, 20 etc....)
3) For those of you that have run into shinies whilst chaining, at 40 how long has it taken for you to see the shiny patch? I'd used about 30 max repels before it appeared and then another 30 or more for the second, I'm just wondering if it's normally shorter or longer...
Sorry for the rant!
DAN!

3) It varies. The average is meant to be around 10-15, but my worst has been over 100 Max Repels since hitting 40, and my best has been the very moment my chain hit 40 - sometimes on a chain number before that.
It's very possible to get a Shiny bush immediately after a previous Shiny bush, or to see two Shiny patches appear at the same time.
In other words, it's all down to chance.
Aww that is horrible, slap that DS. : ( Are the chances of finding shinys higher when you use a pokeradar then? -Only just bought Diamond-
Yep, see above. Without the Poké Radar, the chance of finding a random Shiny is 1/8192.
Of course, not all species of Pokémon can be chained.
Sorry I didn't make it very clear, basically by step counting I mean counting the numbers of steps from your position to the patches. Basically the rule is that if the furthest patch is 5-7 patches away.
Sadly no, the highest chance is 1/200 once you reach a chain of 40.
Distance isn't what's important, it's the patch that falls on the 4th row that you want to enter.

0 being where the player is standing when the patches shake.
There are supposed to be other factors that affect the chances of a chain breaking, but i'm fairly sure distance isn't one of them.
In the game, Lucas/Dawn mentions that you should enter the furthest patch away, because the 4th row patch tends to be the furthest one away, otherwise it's usually the 3rd patch that is.
It's not like the developers could make that character explain in intricate detail about rows and only entering the bush in the 4th one ect., or tell you the safest way to continue a chain.
Subtle hints are all you get from them, the rest is for the players to find out for themselves =3
