Have you ever been asked at a Grocery Store if you wanted a paper or plastic bag? I've never been asked. So what do you like better paper or plastic?

Paper because as an artist paper is a necessity. And the site of paper burning is more lively :D. Oh wait you were referring to the grocery store '.'...

They don't have paper bags at grocery stores in this country.

Some specialist stores do them for certain things, like jewellery or pastries. But if you're in a grocery store or a supermarket it's either plastic or plastic re-usable.

  • They've made Plastic bags illegal in here now... For the environment. (Yays for India!)

We usually get Paper bags or Jute bags or those plastic bags that are environment friendly.

  • Honestly I prefer using my backpack for the small loads. Don't have to worry about a bag that'll eventually become trash for me. However, for the larger things that I have to have bagged, I prefer plastic. Makes for great trash bags for the small trash cans, and keeps clothes in my backpack dry when I walk in the rain. Can't really do that with plastic.

I should invest in some reuseable canvas/cloth/whatever bags for my large shopping trips... my mom has some, they're actually pretty good. Until whoever bags it load a billion things in one bag, but at this point I'm used to it.

I don't see what was ever wrong with a textile bag one would take with themselves to a shop.
I stand victim to my own words though, since I don't have one either... Paper bags have this awful tendancy to fall apart, sussing that they're generally useless, I'd rather keep to the tried and tested plastic bag, which can itself be doubled up more easily. I don't suppose the environment guff concerns me, since I hold onto the bags until I find uses for them, and said uses are not going to be 'fill with rubbish'.

    Yeah, that is it.
We are provided with paper bags now. but sometimes in rural areas they still use the non-degradable plastic thing.

  • I've never been asked.

I think at Stop n Shop where I used to live provides paper and plastic.

But I like plastic better because I use that to bring my lunch to school.

  • I've never been asked for a choice between the two. I'm not sure I even know any grocery stores that use paper bags at all. :s

I assume it's an attempt to be more green, since paper is recyclable and plastic isn't but to curb use of plastic bags in Ontario, they make grocers charge $0.05 for each one a customer uses. Since they did that, a tooon of people buy cloth bags and use those, myself included.

  • Not paper or plastic here. Here is plastic (for five cents) or a cloth bag (which is $1 and reusable).

I liked free bags. I'd reuse the plastic bags. I would use them for other things. Make them free again please. I have lots of reusable bags. but.i.keep.forgetting.them.in.the.car ugh.

And I refuse to buy a plastic bag for five cents, when I forget them, when it should be free. So, I end up trying to shove stuff in my pockets (if I used a basket that day) or I swipe the plastic bags from the fruit aisle and use those.

And then you have to wash the reusable bags. Because putting fruit in a bag that was used for meat is gross.

So not convenient. And they don't even bag for you anymore. You have to do it yourself. So stupid.

The grocery stores around here bag with both plastic and paper. The paper bag goes inside the plastic bag for a sturdy foundation for the items within, while the plastic bag provides ease of transportation.
