'Pokémon: Prehistoric' games?

  • Well, I've been fascinated with prehistoric Pokémon since I first saw the episode where Ash and Team Rocket uncovered the prehistoric Pokémon (Though, another part of it sticking in my memory would be Charmeleon's evolution...).

Now, one assumption I've always made from the information I can gather about them is that the prehistoric Pokémon were around before humans existed... This makes the game incredibly difficult BUT here's a little something I've come up with for the basic storyline:

One hundred years after the events of Black and White (Screw it, this at least means that after they've made this game, Pokémon can maybe just have more interesting games, like a remake of Kanto but set, well, 100 years in the future, also means they could start a fresh set of games off with a new gimmick) scientists have developed technology which allows them to travel in time but, unbeknownst to the scientists, they have traitors in their midst, Team Rocket has reformed, this newly reformed team capture the technology for themselves and use it to restore their leader, Giovanni. Giovanni then instructs Rocket to go even further back in time, to before humans had control over Pokémon, they do this to capture one of the first and most powerful Pokémon.

Rocket have used the technology for their own gain for 30 years now, keeping secretive and informing the public that no such technology exists. However, the most intelligent minds have got together (the ancestors of the Pokémon professors in the first five generations) and have decided that something must be done to stop Team Rocket, secretively they all move their base of operations to Pallet town and begin the search for their chosen trainer, the Great Grandson of the Pokémon champion, Red. Using Cinnabar island's fossil-reviving machine they revive three Pokémon from the prehistoric times, the biological predecessors of Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. On recruiting Red's Great Grandson, Brown, they take him to Oak's lab, letting him choose one of the Pokémon to take with him, they then reveal they have their own time-machine. Brown accepts, being proud of his lineage and ready to prove himself a greater trainer than even Red.

The eight Gym leaders that are usually in games are replaced by Team Rocket's elite, beating one at every village and gaining one digit from an access code to them. Rocket will show up more than once and the other teams will slowly start to be brought in too, challenging Brown throughout the game, meaning this game will feature the lead trainer faced against the recreated groups from all the generations, all fighting for one goal, capturing the legendary Pokémon.

I'll add it here, the only legendary Pokémon to be featured in the 'time travel' part of this game.

Once you have the codes, you go to the mountain which is at the centre of the ancient Kanto, Giovanni is at the heart of it and you fight him before going on to fighting the ancient Pokémon.

Now, the Pokémon for this generation don't really have a place in any of the Pokédex's so they will need their own, probably one that wont be added to the National 'Dex later on so they will have no number beyond the Prehistoric 'Dex. The look of the Pokémon here will be look unmistakably like the first and second generation Pokémon, just ancient version of him. What I mean is that these Pokémon will be new but you will be able to look at them and think "****... That is the predecessor for Bulbasaur". I think that'll at least meant he designs go down better with hardcore fans and they wont look like Digimon.

After completing the Prehistoric part of the game and capturing the Legendary Pokémon, you are free to explore the new Kanto (Like in HeartGold/SoulSilver) and fight all the gym leaders. After defeating the Elite Four, the professors allow you to use the time machine one more time, to go and fight Red.

Anyway, that's just my take on it... The basic proposal here is for a game that touches on or at least shows the prehistory of Pokémon.

    What do you guys think?

I actually think that it would be a very fun game. One of the more fun Pokemon games, I believe. It would have a better story. It wouldn't be all the same boring drab. It would have a fun new element that makes it exciting.

  • Well that's the thing really, the first generation of Pokémon were idealistically the most simplistic, in that they tended to be based on real animals just... Modified. Generation two did this as well and then the third, fourth and fifth seem to be far more imaginative and off-the-wall, hence the 'Digimon' comments, if the prehistoric Pokémon were based on Dinosaurs and early mammals then they could be the same as the first two generations.

I mean come on, a fire-breathing Tyrannosaurus would be pretty damn badass, nobody can deny that.

and yes, you can have a Parasaurolophus Pokémon :P

  • Nice idea! I like the backstory idea... Makes Pokemon games all different than usual.. much more exciting to play.. (plus easily commercialised into long running TV series that wouldn't be too bad!)

Yeah, it would be easy to push into other mediums, I think the manga might be pretty cool.

  • I got some Evo chains and types for ya.

    Proteceratops(Normal Type)-->Centrosaurus(Normal Type)-->Triceratops(Fighting Type)

Compsagnathus(Normal Type)-->Velociraptor(Fighting Type), then depending on conditions, can go either some type of bird, or Utahraptor(Fire and Fighting Type)

And maybe some Trilobite and Armored fish Pokemon.
