David Sornum
--=--
24
=--=
Male
--=--
Snowpoint City, Sinnoh
--=--
Physical Appearance
David isn't usually too concerned about appearance. His hair is usually an unruly mop of red hair, his attire usually comprising of a nondescript hoody and dark jeans. He's always carrying his signature orange backpack, and heavy orangish-brown hiking boots usually smeared with dried and caked mud.
Lean and fit, he's a bit taller than average by a couple inches, though wearing heavy boots usually makes him seem even a tad taller than that. He hates facial hair and the first thing he does in any town he gets to after traveling is a shower and a shave to clean up.
Strengths:
Resourcefulness: David grew up around Snowpoint, locked away for most of the year in snow and ice. Preparation was always important, but so was improvisation if something happened out in the forest. As a result David gained a resourceful outlook, always seeing what things might be helpful down the road, even if he doesn't need them right this instant.
Easy-Going: More on the quiet side, David hates to be the instigator for anything, and tends to go with the flow with whatever everyone else is doing. As a result he's generally easy to get along with, and tends to find himself easily becoming part of groups he hadn't really intended on joining in the first place.
Attentive: A keen eye for detail, he notices the small details that often get overlooked by others. Whether it's a set of pokemon tracks or the drop in pressure before a storm.
Weaknesses:
Emotionally Inept: Not terribly emotional himself, David has a hard time reading and putting up with the emotions of other people. He might recognize someone is angry or upset, but doesn't know how to properly handle the situation. Or he might totally miss reading someone's emotion altogether, sometimes leading to him offending others on accident. As a result he tends to spend more time with pokemon than people, as he tends to understand them better.
One Track Mind: When David finds something to hold his attention, it tends to keep it to the exclusion of all else. Others find it irritating when trying to hold a conversation with him, only to realize he's been focusing on some other thing for the past five minutes. Sometimes this also leads to him not realizing that he might be in a dangerous situation, like being so focused on some baby pokemon he doesn't realize the angry mother is right behind him.
Aspirations:
Caring most about the environment and the pokemon within it, David moved to Wedgehurst town to live closer to the Wild Area, a place he hoped to learn and study a variety of different pokemon in a number of different habitats. His ultimate goal is to become a Pokemon Ranger and move back to Sinnoh to help protect both people and pokemon along the snowy route between his hometown and Mount Coronet.
To that end he began his travels, adopting a pokemon from Professor Sonia to explore the region further. While battling isn't his ultimate goal or interest, he realizes that becoming stronger so he can help protect others and himself is important. The gym challenge is more a distraction, but it does give a good excuse to talk with those who are very knowledgeable with different types and specialties of pokemon, so might as well!
Starter Pokémon: Fletchling nicknamed "Big Red" or "Red" for short
From this point onwards, all characters joining Spear may join the RP with 1 additional pokémon of their choice. So long as that pokémon fits the following criteria:
1: The pokémon evolves at least once.
2: The pokémon is in its base form.
3: The pokémon is different from your starter.
It should be noted that pokémon selected aside from your starter are NOT considered unique and may be encountered / captured throughout the RP.
"in time the wounds will heal, but scars will run deep"
Hometown & Family: Growing up in Shalour City, Bliant only ever knew his father, Baptiste, while he was growing up. His mother tragically passed away during childbirth. Living off the coast and deeply connected to nature in it's many forms, Bliant was surrounded with Pokémon, seafaring and graft from an early age, with his father often traveling between Shalour and Coumarine for work offshore. Sadly, when Bliant was just 9 years of age, he and his father lost their home in the "Z Incident", which demolished their city and left them both feeling vastly unsafe in the Kalos region. Relocating to Circhester in Galar, his father continued his offshore work around Circhester Bay. Sadly, Baptiste met his untimely demise in the icy waters after striking a very concealed rock formation under the waves. After the events of this, Bliant needed to get away from yet more tragedy and refresh his life for a second time by himself in Wedgehurst...
Physical Appearance: Standing at 6"3' with a relatively slender build, Bliant takes pride in keeping himself in well kept, with his wavy brown hair usually kept under a thick hat, unless in otherwise scorching temperatures. His green eyes have often been described as having a soothing effect on those he meets, adorned with his rather slim framed glasses, without which he would not be able to see more than his arm's length. He has had a very mature look about him for many years of his life.
Opting for earthier colours in his wardrobe, during cooler weather he will always be seen with his signature hat and trench coat combo, wearing skinny jeans, fake fur cuffed boots and woolly jumpers to match. Warmer weather has him begrudgingly free his locks from under a hat, and usually goes for light, loose fitting button ups, jeans and sneakers.
Strengths:
Empathetic
Bliant is very empathetic, being able to understand and lean into someone else's emotional state with relative ease. Whilst this definitely can strain his own mental health, he sees himself as someone who is always around to lend a shoulder if someone else needs it.
Good with Pokémon
Growing up around them, Bliant has a very good knack for befriending and helping Pokémon who need it. He will often travel with his own Pokémon outside of their pokéballs, feeling like this is the best way to connect with them and gain their trust and affection.
Resourceful
Being a person of poorer background and relying on nature's gifts for many things, Bliant is a very resourceful young man. He will be able to successfully overcome a difficult situation with things around him, such as building outdoor camps, fires, bridges in certain situations and more. He is also well versed in the botany of the world, reaching for certain berries, flowers and plants for sources of nutrition or medicine. He can also successfully traverse some open waters, thanks to all the years of seafaring trips with his father.
Passionate
More of a double edged sword, achieving his goals is very important for Bliant, as losing those he holds dearest only served as a driving force for him to get out there and do some good in the world. He will also, often fiercely at times, protect those he cares about most, which could also cause emotional responses that are less than desirable...
Weaknesses:
Intolerant
Bliant has a difficult time dealing with people who show little to no passion, care or emotion towards events around them. If someone is particularly apathetic or ignorant, he will get snappy, causing frictions with some people he finds himself coming into contact with.
Perfectionist
Bliant can be somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to his own craft. If he doesn't meet the high expectations he sets out for himself, he will get extremely aggravated and displeased with himself, often coming with a side of self-depreciation.
Mentally Splintered
Despite his positive outlook on life and caring attitude to people on a regular basis, the events of Bliant's life have surely left his mind in a very strained state. He can just as easily fly off the handle and breakdown if things get to him enough, usually coming from a sense of losing control of something in his life once again. When this happens, he's almost the opposite of his normal self, and negative traits can be amplified even moreso, causing a very cold, self-deprecating Bliant to take over, who actively seeks to hide away from the world. People have noted that the flip can be almost instantaneous.
Aspirations: Bliant came to the trainer school with one goal in mind: become a world class, self taught Medic, seeking the power and abilities of Pokémon to assist him in his mission. While he also wishes to become a strong trainer too as he navigates his way around the grief-filled world, he wishes to utilise the trauma of the past to keep him on the straight and narrow and help those who need it most.
Bébé has actually been a family companion for a very long time. Coming to the Delacroix family just before Baptiste passed away, it almost identically shares the same experience and emotions of his passing. She will rarely leave Bliant's side, often perching herself on the top of his left ear clutching her favourite yellow flower. In times where Bliant has needed it most, she will often wipe away a tear with a petal.
Becoming fast friends with Bliant and Bébé, Iris was the first Pokémon who joined them on their adventure shortly after graduation. Injured and far off the beaten track, Iris developed an attachment for Bliant after he nursed her back to health just outside of Wedgehurst, having being abandoned by a previous trainer.

"Bé... bé..."
The little fairy pokémon floated away from the grave of it's oldest companion, leaving it's single yellow flower nestled just under the new headstone that was slowly covering in the silver snow of the Circhester winter. Unusual for a Flabébé, but nevertheless, she missed Baptiste more than she would miss a flower. She had been carrying that single flower for many years, watching Bliant grow up and being by both their sides.
"It's getting cold now, Bébé. Let's go home," Bliant said emptily to his little friend, who had, slower than usual, drifted back onto her usual perch just above his left ear. She seemed smaller than usual, even disregarding the fact she had just left her favourite flower behind.
Bliant looked up into the cold night sky, the stars, moon and snow filling it with a brilliant lustre. The snow was lightly dusting his green beanie hat and emerald jacket that his father had bought him for his 21st birthday. The waves crashed against the cliffs just ahead, filling the air further with glistening seafoam and the roar of the sea, breaking through the silence that was enveloping him as he mourned his father. The funeral was just a few days ago, but Bliant couldn't face seeing people, not just yet.
"Flabé?"
Flabébé noticed a stream of tears coming down Bliant's left cheek down to where she was sat. She frantically flew up and tried her best to quell them once again as she always does, but upon realising she didn't have her flower to hand, her efforts were in vein.
Bliant's knees gave out. Falling down into a hunched state by his late father's graveside, the tears flooded out of his eyes. He couldn't control the grief he felt once again, memories of Shalour and losing his first home coming back to him all over again. But this time, losing his father somehow matched the entire pain he felt previously. Not even seeing the Tower of Mastery in ruins, or his home in tatters, could come close to closing his only family.
"I... can't..." Bliant started in broken up speech, before eventually succumbing to the surge of emotions building up inside him. "I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"
Bébé jerked away from Bliant in fear, although knowing her companion would never harm her, she could sense that he was in way more mental pain than he has ever been before. She wasn't oblivious to this however, she felt the same way too. As she looked around Bliant as he was bawling into the ground, she quickly dashed over to the flower she had just left on the grave. Picking it up and clutching it with all her might, she began to the most beautiful chant.
"Flaaaaabébé... Flaaaaaabébé.... Bébé, fla flabébé," she spun around with her flower as she sang. Bliant looked up as the song rang through the air, cutting over even the loudest waves coursing over the cliff edge. Tears still streaming down his face, the soft yellow glow that began to pour off Bébé's flower almost stung his eyes. "What the-," he stuttered as the glow became brighter. "Flabébé!"
In the moments that followed, Bliant would never forget what his little Pokémon did for him, nor what she did for his father's memory.
The glow emanating from Bébé's flower was now piercing up from the grave below. Bewildered and in awe, Bliant looked on as tiny buds sprang up, defiantly from under the frosted soil. Bébé was using her floral power to decorate the grave with several different colours of wildflowers, each growing and blooming in different colours. The spectacle was something to behold. As her song stopped, Bébé floated up once again with her flower, ready to wipe Bliant's heavy tears as she always does...
