So Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (although I played Ruby) was no doubt an IMPRESSIVE remake. Very well fleshed out storyline. Lots of things I enjoyed, including the soundtrack, megas, improved storylines (like with your parents, with May, with Wally, with Steven, Wallace, Team Aqua/Magma) in general. They did a great job.

And when I saw Delta Ruby post-game I was gobsmacked. Then they amazed us even more with an all new Rayquaza storyline (rather than just using the Emerald storyline) and lots of depth, especially how Zinnia made a fool of Steven. Now that's something new- someone picking on of the almighty champion! Aww but we all still love poor Steven! He was quite hard to beat after all.

So after I finished Delta (I was tired so it took me 2 days as I needed to sleep and had work) I marched on, with my tickets, only to go to.... uhhhh... the battle resort. The same boring place as X and Y (which other than Looker had postgame so boring I, a non-competitive storyline-appreciator who has no interest in Strength training, put my 3DS back int the cabinet)
So anyway I had a look around at this 'battle resort'. Is there perhaps another bridge to the battle frontier? Do I need to unlock something? Where did Wally and May go? Can I battle them? Can I battle Archie and Shelly (as I had Ruby)? Where is Maxie gone?

Oh wow! It's Looker!! He has amnesia and a mega stone. Ok so how do I help Looker? What? Wha....

    *Puts game back into drawer*

Sorry Nintendo, but while the game was exceptional (9.5/10) it ended on such a loose.. note.

So as I sat in the aeroplane from my lil holiday to Singapore on the way back to my home (in Western Australia) I keyed up, with my awesomely fast typing skills (and I didn't proofread so sorry!) what I would love to see in a Downloadable Content (DLC) for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire that would tie these loose ends.

I am pasting this over from a word processing program so I apologise for the formatting.

    Omega/Alpha DLC extension packs

    Summary

A free DLC, to be promoted at the end of January 2015, with promotion continuing until its release, in mid-March.

    Promotion mediums

Via social media, website and trailers. Also the demo pack for ORAS will be updated with a couple new island missions, some of which will promote new aspects of the DLC pack.

    Promotion

Silhouettes, icons, part of a character (e.g. foot, leg). Pokemon teams, battle promos, frontier brain badges, mystery boxes, a flash red car.

    Release

Cutscene at beginning of game: Wally running up to your house with his Gardevoir (lets itself out of the pokeball). He looks at Gardevoir at confusion.

He enters the door and bumps into your mum, who says she is looking for you herself.

    Getting entry with Wally

Go to your home town and meet Wally at the gate. He will then show you to the tv in your house, to an ad he saw. It will announce the brand new battle frontier, but it will show huge queues of trainers from around the world lined up. The systems have unfortunately been having problems processing trainer IDs (and history) that is logged to prove their skill. Wally says given you have the badges and Pokemon league qualification, as well as a mega stone, you won't need logs within battle facilities i.e. Maison, etc. to have all that.

He says he heard of an exclusive competition at the Lilycove department store to give away tickets for express entry which are usually priced very heavily.

Meet him at the rooftop in Lilycove, where a new golden stall is set up to get your tickets. Wally and you grab them, and he says winners are announced soon so you should go downstairs and look around while you wait, in the secret base section.

There, you will meet your mother who said she overheard you were headed there and came to look for you, but while she was at it decided to look for decorations to set up a surprise birthday party for your father. She says she may require your help. Wally butts in and says sorry ma'am not now, they need to get into the battle frontier. Your mother tells you if you get free time to lend a hand, but not to worry too much. She walks away.

You will both go to the counter but unfortunately are disappointed. The man at the counter will act a bit suspicious.

You exit out the front in disappointment. Wally says he needs to calm himself, as it's not a long wait, but he just can't wait. He says he should respect that there are trainers better than him and sometimes you have to wait to prove yourself. Suddenly, May appears, and says he won't have to.

    Meeting Scott

A man name Scott comes along, after May. He introduces himself as the founder of the battle frontier and says he's come along to meet the competition winners at Lilycove Dept. Wally says unfortunately it isn't them and he'll have to take the lift to the elevator. He then sarcastically jokes that may be running slow just like the systems at the frontier are. Scott laughs very heavily (almost rofl'ing) and says he isn't sure of that but perhaps great trainers like yourselves (with all of the gym badges that he points out) could win some tickets from helping him out. He fears something is going on and the interruptions are on purpose. He says there's a local detective in town [Looker] but he has amnesia. Wally agrees to help out if he gets a share, and Scott agrees to it.

With a yes/no prompt, you hop in Scott's flash car and drive along, very fast, down a track. (You can see this red car in the anime)
May points out that it's near their hometown and what a coincidence it is. You meet at a run down looking port. Wally asks this is it, and if the ad was all a prank. Scott tells him to calm down. You walk towards the beat up port when suddenly two Team Aqua (opposite grunts from the version of the game you chose) grunts jump out and attack you.

Double battle the grunts with Wally. You will defeat them (Scott will look worried, and run to protect his car). Two more approach. Double battle with Wally again, while May battles two others. After the double battle, go with May to the final battle, where she says a little help is needed. You will battle a horde together. Wally says he will back you up and watch out for Scott too, if he can.

    Battle the horde together.

After defeating the horde, they will scurry off. One will trip, revealing an ace trainer outfit. He will put it back on and scurry off.

Scott claps and says well done, then says uhh.. I mean, that was fantastic, you saved everything! Even the car.

He then explains why they are at this run down place, that the harbour to get to the frontier is a little crowded as well, Stern is doing all he can.

Cutscene of Capt. Stern scurrying around at the harbour to organise boats. He looks at the crowd of trainers out the window, wanting to board the ship to the frontier.

    The ship ride

You, May, Wally and Scott jump aboard the ship. Scott explains the battle frontier on the way, the frontier brains, etc. You will see a Cutscene of the frontier and a time lapse of its construction. He talks about the battle resort and converting it, but how there is still a resort section to respect its heritage. He talks about the pokemon that like to paint in the area below the frontier and the new underground system still being built. He says as you spend more time at the frontier time will fly, implying if you complete tasks more of this underground system unlocks.

You all look at the great view as you arrive at the frontier port bridge. The place looks huge. You look through binoculars (rotate screen left and right to take a look). You then see a splash and see that Scott dropped his glasses. He asks for you to dive in. If you can't use a Pokemon with dive, May will lend you one who can. You dive underwater and find a cave (the water is being pulled towards it). Come up again on the surface and you will meet Juan, confronting two grunts in front of a horde of Wailmer. Juan says he chased them here all the way from Sootopolis thanks to the speed and amazing 'grace' of Milotic. He says you must help him stop them, as he didn't bring enough Pokemon in his hurry and fears it will hurt their dignity to fight in such a dank cave.

You team up with Juan, who uses a Milotic, to defeat the grunts who have 2 pokemon each (Blastoise and Feraligatr).

Note: Juan is the replacement gym leader for Wallace in Emerald, a character who did not appear in the ORAS remakes unfortunately.

"A bit powerful for lowly grunts, hey?"

    May says, appearing.

The grunts talk suspiciously, as if they forgot they are grunts but deny they aren't.

Juan then uses a water attack to blow off their outfits. (Revealing ace clothes)

What is this?! he asks, confused. Uhh. uhh.. the grunts put their uniforms back on then scurry off.

Juan says it's unusual to wear clothes like that, especially such strange clothes on top of flashier ones, that it's a contradictory fashion statement. He then says he's off to check out the battle frontier and get his battle back on, and look for beautiful, passionate trainers. He rides off on a Milotic (Milotic sprite for surfing is now unlocked), followed by the Wailmer who spin around him as they swim off.

May says she'll meet you back on the boat.

You dive back to the boat. Scott says he found his glasses himself, using a super rod. Wally then notes how something seems a bit unusual.

    Arrival mission

You arrive at the frontier. Scott takes you on a cable ride over the top of the gate (a VIP cable) and it takes you to his office. He explains the power problem and takes you through a back door to direct you to the power. Unfortunately right now the switches are in the underground construction area so you will be given special access uniforms and passes to enter. On the way, you can see all of the crowds through the windows. Wally and May say they will catch up with you as you go ahead.

You go to the underground area where you explore. It's a bit of a maze, and has warp panels for the convenience of workers. You can find a lot of valuable TMs.

You finally get to the restricted area. Lots of traps here, where you can be taken back to the start. Go further and you'll encounter Team Aqua grunts (or Magma, they are the opposite of the version you got) who say they require the power resource for nefarious purposes. Battle
3 grunts. Move on forward where you'll find May and Wally. They say they just knocked some of the off limits signs out of the way to get there before you, maybe they shouldn't have, but don't tell Scott, they say. You approach the power switch, when suddenly the electric type Kalos gym leader comes up. He thanks Wally/May for breaking the barriers, (electricity isn't good for that) and thanks you for defeating the grunts. He says he will do some tinkering to fix it. The power of the systems then goes back on (computers work). He said luckily the power didn't affect the facilities or cable cars as it could have been catastrophic. The grunts are obviously not very smart.

    Bravo!

Scott then appears, followed by Steven.

He says it was fantastic to watch you fight, especially with the megas (If you didn't use one May and Wally both did when they double battled with you), and offers you unlimited entry to the battle frontier. He apologises for the queues and price, and says they will go down as the attraction settles. He also says he knows about how you stopped the world from team aqua. Steven will remind him it was in fact magma. (Or Aqua, depending on your version, nonetheless Scott gets it wrong)

Scott said the power problem of course had nothing to do with the team setup (he just asked the aces to think up something- they aren't very good at acting villainous are they?) and that thanks to you, you opened up the barrier for the gym leader to get through and fix it.

Scott has a dumb [blonde] moment after learning about the team mixup. But he then laughs it off as usual.

A time lapse of the day and night going, as the crowds finally subside.

Scott says it's excellent everything is running perfectly and congestion has disappeared. Wally and May say they are off to explore the attractions and will see you around. Wally also mentions something about secret treasures, including rumours he heard of 'boxes'. He said he would also love to rematch you sometime.

Keep walking further up in the Frontier and you find Steven, who is glad to catch up with you again. He tells you he finds he's part-time at the league now, attracted so much to the Frontier. He says Wallace may have to train harder to stand in for him at this rate! Steven stands around until the looker mission (Although you never do battle Wallace as champion, it was just a reference to previous game).

    The Frontier is now open…

Apart from the range of attractions in awesome 3D, and a larger space (respective to originals but with new add-ons, and an awesome new map on the Pokenav) there are new side missions to be discovered, people to meet, training to be done and even a new mega storyline..

    Lookouts

A huge tourist attraction. Discover new lookouts and photo stops. The man at the photostop also indicates a new update with photo shoot stops around Hoenn you can now go to, just like in Kalos (every major landmark, including volcano, Mt Pyre and more…)

    New daycare and resort features

The resort, smaller, but all compacted into a new space in remembrance of it. You can also find looker here. The rest of the features of the resort are outshone by the rest of the frontier.

    Info facilities

To help you make the most of everything in general and train your team to be the toughest. Borrows features from X/Y and B/W to bring a more full experience. There is even an art gallery.

    Funky spots

Pokemon dancing shows, Sharpedo swimming, ride a Gogoat and other attractions, mainly imported from other games.

Jukebox: View a gallery and unlock original music from Ruby/Sapphire, in a range of cities and places around Hoenn (in particular ones that sound the most different) If you impress someone at the jukebox house, you can even win a portable jukebox app for pokenav to listen where you walk. (To obtain, you have to have at least 4 boxes)

    The Mystery Boxes

Five mystery boxes.. they are the treasures of the Frontier.

    Box 1:

Defeat all trainers in first section of underground area. (You will discover it lying on the ground as a cube, near entrance)

    Box 2:

Defeat the various trainers scattered around the island who specialise in a certain type. The last one will give it to you, saying they found it.

This is currently available in the Battle Resort. There are strong trainers around the island you can battle each specialising in a type. E.g. Fighting, Fairy. With the Frontier, there will be every single type as it's much bigger.

    Box 3:

Complete a brand new Looker side-mission, help him regain his memory.

    Looker side mission

Looker will rock up with lost memory. You can get a mega stone from him, if you haven't already, it's lying on the counter now. You must help him regain it. The lady recommends a book on memory loss that could be found on a shelf somewhere in the island.. it's on the shelf in the pkmn centre. Take it back, and show her. She'll say she's no expert but given the small print, she used to work with complicated small print in Unova region (gives specific reference) and can read through all of the junk to find what they need.

    Memory gainer 1

She complains about how complex the book on memory is, and that pokemon research is in fact quite a bit better here. She then says, in restoring it, a dear companion will help… she asks what Pokemon Looker likes? She looks through a pack looker left, and there are various items that gives hints to the pokemon. She asks if you know what it could be, out of a list of pokemon. When you guess correctly, this can be obtained from May who is standing nearby. She says she's seen some around the island. You go with her to a swampy area, and she uses some honey to attract it. It appears, and you must catch it (it only lets you use an ultra ball). You must then bring it to your party and go back. You let it go and show Looker, who starts to remember more things.

    Memory gainer 2

The lady then shows you in the book something he liked to eat, is something that will help (the taste and smell). Detectives often loved snacking. She then says a pokemon says a lot about someone and the way the pokemon is, perhaps you could link things together. You get to know Croagunk's personality and the type of poke blocks it likes. Walk outside again, and you'll find May somewhere on the island standing around. She says perhaps to meet other trainers with Croagunks, and since it's the battle frontier there's bound to be some.

You go to Scott and he gives you access to the database. He says head to the Seviper facility. You will then, on 'important reasons', access a special chamber where you can freely walk around and meet trainers taking the challenge. You ask to see their pokemon and they instead challenge you. When you beat them, they say they should've brought stronger ones. Eventually you'll come across croagunk. After the battle May says she studied them, but there are countless different types of foods they could like. This isn't exactly her fieldwork. The trainer then takes out a nibble, a specialty biscuit. May says no doubt he's bound to eat it, if the Croagunk also loves eating it. They ask where to buy it, and the lady says with a certain amount of BP. (3) If you don't have it, May says you better get battling!

Once you find it and buy it, you head to the house and looker eats it. He starts to remember more and tells you a bit.

    Memory gainer 3

The lady says more work will be required as he's quite clueless. She suggests a particular TM. She says you can obtain it with BP, but perhaps there are other ways to get it. You speak to Scott who isn't home (his assistant says he's out overseeing work at construction). You go to construction and he's walking off flirting with a fine looking assistant. Laughing, he runs and says all is well, and that they are nearly done with a new section of the place. Each will be themed for a certain type. Or should he have done personality? But then he laughs saying matching personality-against-personality is an idea that didn't make it. Unlike the rest of the frontier, the place is for free battles, there are no rules. It can also be to buy things, exchange. It's a 'make it as you do' place.

Then he says he can get hold of the TM for you, if they explain its purpose so it doesn't make obtaining it look unfair. You go with him to the place, and the lady takes it off the shelf. You then teach Croagunk. Trainers start coming up to Scott asking questions, he tells you to go ahead and good luck. (You automatically exit the building, if you go in again you find Scott talking to people but he disappears shortly after)

You teach the TM to any Pokemon (Crogunk can learn). Use it on Looker, he will start to remember the main details, and show a cutscene of him infiltrating the Team Magma Lilycove base (Or Aqua base, depending on which team you battled earlier). He then says he may be too old and shouldn't have done this mission alone, but heard about the troubles and had to fly here, leaving his robot assistant to take care of things in Kalos.

He notices your magma suit, stating the impressive resemblance to the one Flare had, and that Team Flare could possibly have had some ties with the same scientists that Team Magma did, especially since both are interested in the power of the ultimate weapon.

    Memory gainer 4 (Final)

Looker is still forgetting how he ended up here, so the lady calls a friend over. They enter, and it's none other than a frontier brain (they don't identify themselves, though). She says she knows of a delicatessen that was once used to cure an attack of rogue Drowsees.

It's foreign to Kanto but can be ordered in by the crew. She recommends you talk to Scott. You go to Scott's office and Wally is at the front. He is talking on his device to Steven. He tells you the feature on the Pokenav is out of beta and is being used by people on the battle frontier island. He said to try and collect some people's numbers and rematch them using it. Wally said he hasn't had the chance to have a proper catch up with Steven and scurries off somewhere. You enter the office, and Scott walks out. He laughs and says he bumps into you, you're both always on the move. Scott says he can indeed order this in, knowing the right connections on his journey as an entrepreneur, and takes you through to the dock where they receive it. An area you can also access through underground part)
In the dock, you can also access offices with records, where you can learn a lot more about Scott and his journey as an entrepreneur. The dock officer tells you to wait a little while for the shipment (it'll be an express one, just for you, the kid who saved Hoenn as Scott tells him)

As you walk away, two construction workers challenge you to a battle, wanting to see how strong you are. When you exit the dock, Wally then rings you on the Pokenav. He says how cool Steven is and Steven taught him about the feature. He gives you an on-screen tour of the new calling feature, and how you can select lots of people, including gym leaders, to rematch. He says he isn't sure Frontier Brains have time for the feature unfortunately. You can call Wally again for information, such as about the limitations.

People you can call include gym leaders (progressively- they will pop up over time), Scott, trainers around the frontier, Steven, Wally, May, and Norman. Wally says gym leaders may slowly pop up according to Steven.

May, Wally and Steven won't rematch over calling. (Wally and Steven can only be rematched but in person) Sometimes gym leaders ask you to wait for a rematch. When you go to gym to rematch, they are at the door and lead you to their area so you don't have to navigate.

Scott calls you a few moments later (after walking/cycling a certain distance) and tells you the shipment is here. Go back, and you will be met by two construction workers who want to battle you. May then comes through and says she stumbled across this new place (as door was left open) and funny that she found you. She asks if there's a certain type of Pokemon around here. The construction workers say May looks strong. She says so are <name here> and another kid and oh yeah! another one called Wally. She battles them while you go to the port to collect. A Machoke carries the parcel. A man opens it for you, and you obtain it. May comes up behind you, and asks what you have. She asks if you want to go with her to Looker's house, as she's going that way. If you do, you appear inside the house (she disappears either way).

Looker drinks it and then falls asleep. Walk outside, and go back in, to find Looker sitting at the desk on the computer. He remembers now: his disguise caught on a spike and a Magma grunt chased him to the port (where the submarine was kept) and he tripped and fell on a shaft and floated away. A mysterious, powerful water pokemon (possibly a legendary) attacked him in the water and washed him to the shore. He says he has to go back immediately to Kalos! He thanks you tremendously for the effort in restoring his memory and gives you an outfit he says he stumbled upon in an outfit shop (which was closed but is now open). He then scurries off for the next mission. The lady who took care of Looker is surprised he didn't say goodbye but is just glad that he is back where he needs and played a part.. even if small.

You walk outside. Looker will then run back in. He gives her the lady a kiss on the palm, causing her to blush. He then runs off again, yelling thank you, <your name>, you're a true detective! The lady then tells you where the costume shop is. Go to it, and you can change to your contest costume, a new frontier costume (customisable colours) and the construction worker costume. You can unlock a few more throughout the frontier.

After doing this mission, return to the construction area, where a man will give you a box that came through, also addressed to you, which will be the mystery box.

    Box 4:

(As you obtain each box, a new part of underground area opens)

You can meet Juan at an underground fountain underwater, where he will boast about his contribution to its making. He will say he formally apprenticed under Wallace who has retired duties as gym leader to help out with the pokemon league, although only part-time. Juan will ask to see several elegant water Pokemon, and if you can impress him a few times in a row (and he can be picky), he'll give you a mysterious box he found.

After doing this and getting the box, Juan then says you can come back if you have an elegant looking frontier badge, and he will battle you. (There is no reward from this, though, but Juan is quite powerful, with Pokemon in the 80s)

    Box 5:

Unlock 3 more outfits (after you've unlocked the outfits from the Looker mission) and show a lady at the costume shop who will give the mysterious box.

One more outfit can be unlocked by talking to a person hidden on a nearby island who gives you a voucher. The person is on break from construction. (But this is not the construction outfit)

Another can be unlocked by catching a wild pokemon for a painter who wants to paint it.

The third can be unlocked by buying a pokemon tail for a million or less dollars from a man in the pokemon centre. You can talk to him a second time and bump the price down. It can be tricky and there is a trick to bumping it down a lot (such as entering and exiting the building) as he can put it up again if bothered. Buy it, and he will throw in a complementary costume.

When you show the lady at the costume shop the outfits, she will give you the box, saying a customer with spikey grey hair left it behind.

Once you obtain all five boxes, Steven will walk up to you and say the boxes look special, and he's heard something great about them. Maybe another one of Scott's tricks? Talk to Scott back at his house, who will then say construction on the underground area is completed and tell you to meet him below.

Take an underground roller coaster ride in the newest addition and meet Scott at the very bottom on a platform lift. You will go down the platform to a beautiful secret place with a waterfall. Walk through the waterfall and insert the mysterious boxes into a door behind it. The door will open, and waiting for you will be all of the frontier brains. You can choose one to battle here and now (you will be healed beforehand, with your choice of battle and rules). You are able to access your PC. You can say no to the offer but you will not be given another chance unless you pay half a million dollars. (Construction costs, plus the champion must be rich right?)

Defeat the frontier brain of your choice (the rest will disappear) and if you do so successfully, you will be given the certification for defeating the brain, without having to reach a certain point in the facility first. The frontier brain will hint (even if you lose) that if you gain all of these certifications you'll be rewarded even more.

He will then disappear. Scott will ascend through the waterfall and say that your friends must be envious. The grey haired one left one of his boxes behind when he was sprucing his look up at the costume shop (although his suit seems to look the same!) so he has to gain it again. He tells you he only has so many to go around so you can't complete them again nor can you challenge a frontier brain so easily again. Scott will say feel free to relax here, it's secret after all. You may find more powerful trainers here training, but to find them you have to challenge the facilities and earn more certifications and more may appear!

The variety of trainers in this secluded spot may vary:

-Wally (after you earn several certifications)

-Electric gym leader from Kalos (after one more)

-A trainer sprite from another region (three varieties- one to several more- varieties from regions increase as you earn more prominence in frontier)

-Sinnoh rival Joey (after one more)

-Black haired Unova rival from BW/2 (several)

    -Archie or Maxie (several)

-Any of the people from Sinnoh that you teamed up with in Platinum e.g. to get through the cave, forest.. (nearly all)

-Diantha (All of them: she is the final trainer to battle- after this it is randomised)

    Improved BP system-

See previews of the prizes and more info on how it helps in the brand new BP prize gallery. You can also warp to this prize gallery anytime. There is also a shuttle service around the frontier, via a Pokemon.

Other things to do (after getting boxes)

    -Sharpedo racing

-Another Pokemon fan club, this time the fans recognise you are the champion like they do in Lilycove city in Emerald when you walk in

-Watch a frontier sky show with May (night only, at the lookout)

-Help find Pokemon in wild with May, and let her check your poked

-Show Wally your mega stones- if you can show him all of them, he gives you a rare Pokemon.

-Battle Wally inside the underground area again

  • While this looks like a good idea for DLC, I have my thoughts about about it. First of all, due to how big it is, odds are more likely that it would be Paid DLC, not Free DLC. Now before you disagree with me, allow me to give my reasoning. I played pretty big DLCs for certain games before. (For example: Lair of the Shadow Broker in Mass Effect 2, Omega in Mass Effect 3) They have been Paid DLCs, one of the reasons why being they were very important to the storyline. That is why I think a large DLC would more likely be Paid instead of Free. Other than that, I have no problems.

Love the idea. Some aspects of it doesn't work (character wise) but the overall idea is great

Instead of just selling the DLC in the E shop maybe include it in a special theme deck in the tcg . Or for future expansions in future games just come up with special amiibos

Which aspects of character development do you think need working on?
Also I think a guy high up in Nintendo said he doesn't agree with selling another part of the game- you should buy it full. So it should be FREE DLC.

While this looks like a good idea for DLC, I have my thoughts about about it.

For all we know, the Battle Frontier will come out in a massive free update. I say this because the way the Battle Frontier is mentioned in the game kind of feels like the devs didn't add it in the initial release due to time constraints.

Honestly, I think the whole Looker thing is just setting up a storyline for the next game. But, I do belive the Battle Frontier may come as DLC.

  • I do think we will be seeing the battle frontier soon also this article got me thinking especially how it mentions a explorer named Brandon it sounds like pyramid king Brandon to me!

I think, as with all speculations, it's kind of far fetched to simply link the name Brandon and "dangerous adventure" (the gist of it then) to the Battle Frontier in its entirety.
Even if it is about Pyramid King Brandon, that doesn't hint the return of the Battle Frontier, it simply suggests that Brandon will have something to do with the game. However, it could just be another adventurer named Brandon (I mean, how many Brandons are there?)

While I will accept a Battle Frontier DLC with wide open arms, I will remain suspicious of articles like these which seem to be driven by willpower and lust rather than objectivity and logic. They seem to be forging a chain that is missing too many links to hold, if that makes sense.

    EDIT:

Also, since I replied to this thread, I'd like to add on an on-topic note that I really appreciate the effort OP put into writing out the storyline for his DLC.
It looks very good to me and I'd love to play through it, very well done, OP.
    Kudos.

  • Now, I do like this franchise, but I can't lie, his answer to the question on later games not having Challenge Mode is rather jarring. He didn't even give a proper explanation as to why it was a one time B2W2 exclusive thing. And i'm not even gonna get started on the question with the Frontier...

  • The harsh reality is next year another game will more than likely replace ORAS, Pokemon has really become a yearly thing, and updates don't seem common after a few early bug patches.

All too true, which is a shame, because Nintendo is one of those companies that, on the whole, hasn't really fallen into that trap. They have really poured a lot of time and love into their flagship franchises and done each new installment right. I know Gamefreak makes these games, but they would do well to take a page from Nintendo and slow down on pushing out Pokemon games, especially since they are going to start lapping themselves as far as remakes are concerned.

They need to wait it out for the next hardware update (maybe even this new 3DS) and publish a big, cohesive Pokemon game that is designed to be built upon. Pull from every game released, adding in content that was missing and polishing the entire product. Then, add new content in dlc with a 1-2 year post-release support plan.

More than likely Nintendo wholeheartedly encourages this, they're getting a bit worse what with bad DLC (Smash with Mewtwo) and Pokemon basically selling their handheld console almost entirely, Platinum in 2009, HGSS in 2010, Black/White was 2011, Black/White 2 came out in 2012, X/Y was last year, this was half a decade in the making already.

I honestly hope I'm wrong and just being a little paranoid, because I would love to see some really great Pokemon games with tons of amazing features and very little held back.

What are you talking about? Those yearly releases have only been updated re-releases/remakes of previously released games. When we're not counting those titles, the year gap between R/G and G/S was three, G/S and R/S was three, R/S and D/P was four, D/P and B/W was four, and B/W and X/Y was three. This is hardly an annual thing. Masuda was right about this community being only the small minority, because I'm sure the general audience wouldn't seem to care so long as the games are still good. Moreover, how would you consider the Mewtwo DLC as bad? Nintendo's the only company who knows how to use DLC the right way as shown with Mario Kart 8 and Pikmin 3, and everyone wanted Mewtwo back, and they're willing to buy both versions of Smash to get him, who was later confirmed to be paid-DLC for those sticking to only one version. You're definitely just being paranoid.

Whoa whoa, slow down there. Mewtwo is bad DLC?

Mewtwo isn't deliberately locked on disc, he's actually unfinished, which makes sense why he's going to be DLC, and he's free for anyone who owns both 3DS and Wii U games. That's not bad practice.

Bad DLC would be Street Fighter x Tekken charging twenty dollars for 12 characters that are finished and on-disc.

Not counting released versions doesn't make them not exist for the last few years on a yearly release table.

Also, paranoid about "challenging" things being removed from a game series that is starting to do yearly versions that are either a new release or a remakes of older games? If this wasn't Nintendo people would've lost their **** over this kind of thing.
Not to mention Mewtwo first being shown as "buy both versions", and only later confirmed as separate DLC on a game that wasn't even out yet (the Wii U version), again, if it wasn't Nintendo there would be a lot of backlash over this, in fact there is all the time with games like Mass Effect 3 and Assassin's Creed confirming DLC pre-release.

It's not really paranoia to draw comparisons to similar practices by companies that release the same kind of product.

That's because they're updated versions of the same game from its initial release. It takes 3-4 years to create a brand new title to experiment with the new handheld's technology. Game Freak also has more than one team to work on several projects.

I've seen users losing their crud over anything that Nintendo does.

As Spino has stated, Mewtwo isn't an on-disc DLC thing, because he's an unfinished character and a free download if you've purchased both versions. They're also testing the waters to see if there's an audience for DLC in Smash, and Mewtwo is a success, they could bring back other characters via DLC. As I said before, Nintendo's been doing DLC the right way, unlike other companies like Capcom.

  • The battle Resort interestingly takes the place of the Battle Frontier. This makes me think that perhaps Z will have the Hoenn Battle Frontier and perhaps GF will do a 'Delta Emerald' DLC for Or As to add the BF and make Wallace the champion which was interestingly hinted at at the end of the DE...I mean Delta Episode.

    Battle frontier speculation thread SPOILERS

I have recently myself been feeling quite curious about the battle resort as there are heavy hints towards the battle frontier including the model of the battle tower the mention of Scott and that the "pike queen" Lucy and even has been scouted and I know that game freak has given their reason for not including it but that doesn't mean they won't include it sooner or later I think they may make it a free DLC or patch but they could maybe make a sequel to both X and Y and ORAS as this would make sense in the Pokémon timeline. I really hope we will see the battle frontier very soon..

I for one would be extremely happy if the Frontier was released, and a £5 DLC would be absolutely ideal, however this is Nintendo so I have a feeling an Emerald remake is upcoming, just because they would probably successfully sell the game due to the slightly different story line and battle frontier.
