What is the target audience of pokemon in your opinion? Is it 10-year-old kids? Is it an older demographic? Personally, I think that Pokemon is aimed at kids, but throws in a lot of extra things for older gamers.

    So...what's your opinion?

Well with the further advancements they're making to the games and the franchise as a whole, I think they're keeping up with the older people, who have grown up with Pokemon. But at the same time, they still keep it kid-friendly, it's always been targeted towards kids.

i think it was generally targeted towards children, but the way it was made, any age/generation could enjoy playing the game.

^ This. Made for a relatively young audience but broad enough in its features to appeal to huge ranges of people.

    Everyone.

Especially people who like pokemon (lol).

    :B

No seriously, the main aspects and concepts are not aimed at anyone in particular, however they try their best to make it easy to get into.

I don't really think the games are aimed at anyone specific. The Pokémon games can be as easy (just level grinding) or as difficult (employing real strategy, Nuzlocke challenges etc) as you like, so I think that's why it can appeal to everyone.

The anime is definitely aimed more at the younger fans though, imo.

This, pretty much. Pokemon caters to children, teenagers and adults. It's child friendly, but there are a few subtle jokes and references that will mostly appeal to the teenagers and adults (aside from competitive battling).

With the complexity of IVs, EVs, and the metagame/competitive battling in general, I'd say that they're trying to get an audience beyond the stereotypical "kiddie" one. But since they're also trying to get kids interested in Pokemon, then they avoid making the series too... well, mature. So this means Nintendo isn't going to put anything like an ultra-complicated plot, extremely difficult storyline, or mature content in their games. So in my opinion, they seem to be trying to pull in the biggest amount of players as possible.

I think that they're aiming it at younger kids, but they know that some older ones will still enjoy it, which is why they throw in mechanics like EVs and a storyline that most younger kids will just button mash through (mostly talking about Gen V).

But I think they know that if they advertise it, they could get lots of little kids to buy the game. However, I think because of the general feeling of "Pokemon, it's a kid's game" will make it hard to convince older people that it's a game they should buy.
