First Chapter!!! >,<
"Whoa…"
Kyri Raddin allowed an awed sigh to pass between her lips.
The building was larger than any she'd ever seen in her small town and more people were bustling about it than had made up her whole community back home.
"Alright! Let's do this, Eevee!"
She pumped a gloved fist into the air at the sound of her Pokémon's agreement from the gray hood on her back, and brushed down her wild, pale blond hair before crossing the street at a trot.
As she brushed past others, students and teachers at the Trainer's school, she assumed, she glanced to her arm. The class schedule was carefully written in black ink, just in case.
"Ok so… my first class is status afflictions… that's room number…" Kyri was mumbling to herself, hurrying down the busy hall when she hit someone, hard.
"Hey! Watch where-!"
Eevee pulled at a piece of Kyri's hair in its mouth, tugging hard to get her attention.
Right. I'm supposed to try and control my temper. Thanks Eevee!
Kyri checked herself and looked up, taking a deep breath.
"Um… I'm sorry! I'm new here and, uh, my name is Kyri! Do you know where Ms. Tempstone's classroom is?"
First, she was about to show the boy in front of her the black markings on her arm, but she figured that might be weird, so she awkwardly fumbled for a pocket in her navy blue cargo shorts were the real class schedule was located.
The boy burst out laughing, his shaggy blond head tipping backwards.
Kyri looked up from her nervous struggles with a zipper, enraged. "What?!"
"Nothing." The boy calmed down, and smiling, reached out a cordial hand to Kyri. "Name's Leif! I'm new here too. But I've toured here before and…" He grabbed Kyri's arm after she carefully extended her hand to him, "… would you look at that? We have several classes together." He chuckled as Kyri pulled her arm back. "Let me show you the way."
Kyri, though still flustered with this boy, Leif's, odd manner, didn't object.
The taller blond boy carried on the conversation, a few steps ahead of Kyri.
"So, Eevee, huh? That's cool." He turned his head back, grinning. "I have a Leafeon. So, we're sorta like relatives, right?" He pushed open a door to a class, still talking, though Kyri wasn't listening. "Here we are!"
Leif held the door open for Kyri, but she didn't walk through.
"Uh hellooo??" Leif waved a hand in front of Kyri's face and Eevee pulled at her hair again.
"WHA?!" Kyri jumped, woken up from her daydreaming.
Leif laughed again. "You're an odd one, huh? Okay, space cadet, since you can't pay enough attention, I'll be your guide today. And your new best friend." He stuck his tongue out at her, winking one of his dark brown eyes. Leif pulled Kyri to sit beside him just before a bell rang.
"Welcome to the Trainer's School!" A young, petite red-head spoke from the front of the class. "I'm your teacher, Ms. Tempstone! You may call me Ms. T. I would like to start the class off as soon as possible, so everyone, stand up, say your name, and when we're done, we'll start off with the topic for the day, Paralysis."
As the students across the room each said their name, Kyri watched Leif, who was doodling on a paper before him. His artwork was… A picture of a girl and an Eevee… No. A picture of Kyri and her Eevee. The sketch was a remarkable likeness.
Leif stood as it came his turn.
"Hey! I'm Leif, and this is Leafeon!" The green Eeveelution came out of the Pokéball Leif now held in his hand.
He sat down, allowing the smallish grass-type to crawl onto his lap.
Kyri stood now, slightly nervous with all the eyes trained on her.
"Uh… Um. I'm K-… Um." All the people made her uncomfortable.
"These are my buds Kyri and Eevee!" Leif reached up, pulling a blushing Kyri back into her seat by the bottom edge of her grey, sleeveless shirt.
Kyri attempted to glare at him furiously, as the introductions snaked across the room. She set Eevee onto her desk, still somewhat thankful; not that she'd admit that with her mouth.
"I can tell you're relieved. Your face speaks your every thought." Leif whispered back, grinning and stroking his Leafeon's head.
"Alright everyone." Ms. Tempstone clapped her hands as the last student sat down. "Can anyone tell me a move that may cause a Pokémon to experience paralysis?"
A few raised their hands, including Kyri. She knew a lot about Pokémon, considering her whole family had always been involved with the creatures.
"Leif?"
"Stun spore, for one." The blond answered the teacher's call, his voice laden with confidence.
"Correct!" The teacher seemed extremely peppy, and it was starting to bug Kyri, but she tied to ignore it. "Anyone else?"
Other students offered their answers, some correct, some as off as water gun.
Kyri looked to Leif again. He was smart and friendly, not to mention he had an amazing Pokémon.
I guess making new human friends as well as Pokémon friends couldn't hurt.
She sat through the rest of the lesson, a smile playing at the corner of her lips.
Kyri held Eevee nervously. She was in her second class. A class where Leif was unfortunately not present, leaving her
feeling fairly lonely. The main problem was she tended to not do very well with new people, as her temper was pretty loose.
The classroom was a gymnasium, and at the front of the bleachers where the many students sat, a young man with a face of stubble and messy, curly, black hair stood in a blue sweat suit.
"Alright! Who wants to run the obstacle course with their Pokémon partner first?" The man spoke loudly, in a deep voice.
Kyri sat up. Now this was something interesting. She immediately raised her hand without thinking.
"Alright! Raddin, to the floor!" The coach-type teacher blew on his whistle.
Kyri was happy a moment, then realized everyone was looking at her.
Whoops.
Nevertheless, she walked down to the course, Eevee in the crook of her arm.
Taking a deep breath, she focused on the obstacles the instructor had explained.
Kyri whispered to Eevee, placing the small Pokémon in her hood. "Let's go!"
Kyri ran forward, clearing a hurdle flawlessly. She didn't need a Pokémon's help for that. Her tall, thin athletic form worked its way over to the next thing, a balance beam.
She stuck her arms out to the side, Eevee placing its forepaws carefully on her shoulders, its hind legs evenly separated in the hood to help with stability.
Kyri hopped off the beam, pulling Eevee from her hood at the same time. Three small, red targets were in front of her, and she supported Eevee with her hands now.
She smiled knowingly.
"EEVEE! Rapid Quick-Attack!"
Kyri launched the Pokémon forward, and it accelerated in speed, bouncing off and destroying all three wooden targets in a matter of seconds, ending by landing softly on all fours amid the still falling pieces of target.
That had been a move they used to use on berry trees, to pick berries on the outskirts of the small town they had come from.
Kyri went to pick up her Eevee, and was surprised as the class broke out in cheers, even the teacher clapping hardily.
Kyri smiled, relieved she had done well, and went to sit down.
"Alright… I don't know who can follow that up, but let's move on class…" The instructor continued the exercise, as Kyri encouragingly praised Eevee.
"Don't think you're all that." A girl with long, curly aqua hair glared daggers at Kyri before getting up to run the course with her sleek Glaceon.
The girl's moves were indeed impressive, and she went to sit back down, shooting Kyri a smug smirk.
Kyri stiffened.
It seemed she'd made an Eeveelution owning friend and rival, all on her first day.
The Trainer's School was definitely going to be interesting…
