  • The Primarina tera 7-star raid was announced with Fairy tera type. What is everyone planning to try for the raid?

Looking at the moves that Primarina can learn, it looks like Steel-type can't be hit by anything for super-effective damage by Primarina, while Poison-type could be hit by Stored Power or Psychic. I'm leaning towards Tinkaton since it resists Fairy-type attacks and can have Own Tempo to dodge possible confusion from Water Pulse and/or Alluring Voice (mostly worried about this move). Wondering if Primarina will try Charm or Encore for support moves. Also looking at possibly Metagross with Clear Body if Primarina will be using Charm or Chilling Water attacks. Competitive Empoleon could also be clutch if Primarina is going to spam stat-lowering moves (even though it would have to muscle through Primarina's high Special Defense). Just thinking the raid might lean that way due to Primarina's poor Physical Defense stat.

    Primarina Tera Raid solo strats?

    Tinkaton
    Nature: Careful
    Ability: Own Tempo
    Tera: Steel
    Item: Shell Bell
    - Sword's Dance
    - Gigaton Hammer
    - Metal Claw
    - Light Screen or Skitter Smack

Guesses a moveset of Sparkling Aria, Moonblast, Energy Ball, and Psychic Noise. Armed raid bosses with a buffing move in their main sets in several recent raids. Already hits really hard without that. Feels like overkill. For out-of-turn moves, maybe Misty Terrain and Icy Wind?

Covered some good options above. Potentially opens up more if a Psychic move is not on the table (maybe Clodsire, Tentacruel, or Toxapex?). Tried looking at Frosmoth and Flutter Mane. Hit for way too little, even at +6 Special Attack.

Will probably give the standard special attacking Hisuian Goodra a shot. Punishes Special Attackers a lot if Moonblast is on tap, though, on top of the lopsided defenses. Could retool it to be a physical attacker with Curse, Iron Head, and Skitter Smack. Involves too much effort, though. Wants to give Golduck a chance also, for some awful reason. Swears on some ridiculous method like Simple Beam, Muddy Water (for the accuracy drop), Nasty Plot, and...Liquidation(?) being possible 0.5% of the time.

Make sure to hug your local Bellibolt, also. Invariably proves vital with its Light Screen.

If Psychic Noise would be brutal. Might look into Poison/Dark with tera Poison in that case. Dodge the heal prevention for most of the raid and then go crazy with tera attacks later on. Possibly Alolan Muk with Poison Jab//Curse/Gunk Shot/Screech or Minimize.

Moonblast could make Kingambit tera Steel and Defiant work. Gets access to Metal Burst though not sure if that works in raids.

Now thinking about ignoring types all together and going tera Steel Snorlax with Amnesia/Belly Drum/Iron Head/Heavy Slam (only if no confusion or anti-healing strats from Primarina).

Should be able to use Metal Burst fine. Does not do that much damage unless you are taking tons, though.

Edit: Actually, hold on. Always laughed at the Avalugg Sturdy + Mirror Coat bamboozle for normal battles. Never attempted it. Math time.

Reaches 394 hitpoints on either Avalugg. Appears to be the healthiest Pokemon with this combo. Favors Hisuian Avalugg for the lower Special Defense and type weakness. One-shots with Sparkling Aria. Deals a hefty 393 * 2 = 786 damage. Faces Primarina's health of 301 * 35 = 10535 hitpoints. 10535 / 786 = 13.4 uses of Mirror Coat. Expects the AI to do enough for that 0.4. Means fainting 12 times. Doubts enough time to do that.
    _________

Released the 7-star Primarina raid into the world.

Moves: Moonblast, Sparkling Aria, Psychic, and Sing.
    Nature: Modest
Out-of-turn moves: Surf (near the end) and Encore (once, maybe about 25-30% into the raid?)
Raid abilities: One Tera Orb steal about two moves in, a debuff clear about 3-4 turns in, a buff clear about 5 turns in, a Tera Shield 5-6 turns in, and a final debuff clear at around 25% health 35% health, according to Serebii.

Recommends a buff-based strategy. Only clears that once, early on.

Stalled damage-wise with Hisuian Goodra after the debuff clear at the end. Tried Golduck with a few setups. Gave up on physical defense drops that were not enough. Almost pulled through with a special and Simple build (Simple Beam on Primarina, faint, Skill Swap Simple onto an ally to give to yourself, Calm Mind to good Special Attack, and Surf with the help of Drifblim's Shadow Ball Special Defense drops). Missed the kill by one turn. Wonders if Skill Swapping off Simple after the setup phase would have done it. Shrugs.

    Won with Flutter Mane.
    Tera: Fairy
Moveset: Moonblast, Calm Mind, Fake Tears, and Sleep Talk
EVs: Max Hitpoints and Special Attack
    Nature: Modest

Performed zero actions until the debuff clear. Squeezed in 3 Fake Tears before the Tera Shield. Fainted. Set up Calm Mind to +6/+6. (Lucked into no Special Attack drops from Moonblast.) Tossed in an Attack Cheer, due to not using a cheer somehow. Lopped off a solid 50% of Primarina's hitpoints after Terastallizing.

Really stalled after that. Took a Sing, finally, on the shield break turn. Cured that. Started hitting kind of weakly now, though. Suffered a second Sing. Cured that. Won with seconds left, after having about 20-25% of the timer left after the shield break.

Never actually used Sleep Talk in the winning attempt. Could have been okay during the Calm Mind setup phase.

Could pull this off better with Tera: Steel and Tera Blast, probably. Avoids Moonblast spam, as a bonus.

    Some noteworthy partners:
    • Sylveon: Moonblast for Special Attack drops.
    • Bellibolt: Light Screen and maybe paralysis.
    • Arboliva (maaaaaybe): Safeguard. Slows you down with Grassy Terrain.
    • Gardevoir: Should be able to activate Synchronize on those Sings (for however good that does). Also has Life Dew.
