Tales of Versus is like Dissidia done wrong. Dissidia was short lived, but the characters were mostly balanced. Versus is not.

Ah well, typical character fan game, I guess.

Well then clearly you haven't played Tales of VS, because if you did you'd realize that the characters are unbalanced less you take the initiative to fix that yourself. You can pour points into each character to raise their stats, set skills, and change their weapons so that they're all on par with one another, not to mention you can choose which attacks to have equipped. If you're saying the characters are unbalanced before this, than yes, but half of the fun is striving to make sure that each of the 35 characters can hold their own against one another.
