Howdy folks, Tetiro here. Been a while since I picked up Pokemon but getting HeartGold because I missed Generation 2. The best generation in my opinion (Gen 1 was great, but Gen 2 was double the gameplay length).

Anyway, this has been on my mind for a long time. As you level, your pokemon can evolve. And get stronger in stats of course. Now typically I evolved my pokemon as soon as I could as I assumed the stat raising was done based on the level of evolution.

So my question is this. Is evolving the pokemon ASAP the way to get the highest stats or was I being way too paranoid and their stats are fixed based on the level of the pokemon and its evolution level?

Well, as far as I know, their base states wont change. The main reason to keep your Pokémon from evolving is so they can learn moves earlier on.

I don't think so. You can hold back evolution for a while, and it'll catch up, especially after EVing. I did a playthrough of Emerald without evolving my Pokemon, and after I was done I evolved them and they were at the stat average of any other Pokemon of their species that would have evolved long ago. So don't worry about holding off or evolving ASAP.
