We're still not in the habit of deleting accounts - and especially since that account does appear to have been used for posting at least once, the chance of it being wiped just to free up the name is even slimmer now.

Not really...we don't really "reserve" names here, all you can really do (unless you want to register an account as a name placeholder) is just wait and hope that no one else takes the name before you do.
