Specifically, Brock and Misty only accompany Ash in Kanto, and their following appearances are replaced by generation appropriate characters. Who would you have liked to see?

    1. Orange Islands doesn't count. Stays the way it did.
    2. Characters eligible are Gym leaders, and supporting characters from the anime and games. They can't be a parent, team boss, E4 or champion.
    3. Brock and/or Misty can only be replaced by a character of the same sex.
    4. Brock and Misty must be replaced by a character introduced in that given region/gen. Example, Misty during the Johto season can only be replaced by a female character introduced during the gen 2 period. This includes any females introduced in the games, or anime in this time who don't fall into the criterias mentioned in part 2.

This is kinda difficult, because there are no little girls as gym leaders in Johto. Claire's a full-grown adult, and Whitney and Jasie could be in their teens, and that's a no-no for shippers, who only want to ship girls the same age as Ash. Falkner and Bugsy are also out because them using a Pidgeot and Butterfree respectively would be an insult to fans who mourn for the release of Ash's Butterfree and Pidgeot (and Bugsy would feel like a Tracey repeat as they both own a Scyther). That only leaves us Morty, since the last two male gym leaders are too old to travel with Ash.

Whitney can easily have been de-aged. Before her anime debut, there was little reference on how tall she was. In fact, based on her personality in the games, and the poses she does in the remake, perhaps they envisioned Whitney to be much younger than she was from the anime. And if not, like I said, they could have de -aged her just fine, given they de-aged Serena for the anime.
