  • I believe I managed to get it sort of running via WINE a year or so ago. It's definitely possible, but a chunk of the functionality was missing.

There are a few options. One of which is WINE, another is dual-booting, or basically installing Windows on a separate partition (You should be able to find tutorials on how to do this with relative ease), and the other one is finding one available for Mac OS X. I'd advise looking through the Mac App Store to see if you can find something (Look for something like 'Game Maker' or RPG maker'). Some that are out there (although I haven't tested them) are Open RPG and Sphere.

Also, you could try running RPG Maker XP via VirtualBox, which should have full functionality, BUT you'll need a pretty decent computer to run it (as you'd be running Windows and Mac OS X at the same time).

Anyway, I wish you well on your journey, and hope you find something that will work for you!

  • There is zero missing functionality with RPG Maker in modern Wine. I use RPG Maker XP on my Mac.

Just download Winebottler, look up how to create a simple Winebottler app and install RPG Maker XP (and the RGSS/RTP standard into the same prefix). It works perfectly.

  • I need help. I am a first-time Wine user on a Mac.
I just bought RPG Maker XP and I have the RGSS.
How do I run them? So confused...

Please explain it clearly. I can't find a legit straightforward explanation anywhere online.

Hi there! You should have in your downloaded RPG Maker XP a setup file and two folders, correct?

Go into the folder for the main RPG Maker XP program and open it with WineBottler. Install it into a prefix named "com.enterbrain.rpgmakerxp" or whatever you desire. When it's finished, close WineBottler.

Second, run the installer from the RGSS-RTP folder with Wine itself (right-click, open with Wine), and it should come up with a dialog asking you under which prefix should this application be run. Select "com.enterbrain.rpgmakerxp" or whatever you named it, and the installer will be run (and therefore installed) within the Wine virtual drive for RPG Maker XP.

If you do not know what Wine or Winebottler is, look here: https://winebottler.kronenberg.org/

    Hope this helps :)

  • I have two downloaded .exe files - the RPGXP and the RTP but I do not see a folder for the main RPG Maker XP program.

  • What the.. did I just get scammed?

What do you mean by did you get scammed?

Do you mean that you don't have RPG Maker XP, or something else?

If you mean that you don't have RPG Maker XP, you should run: RPGXP.exe (This is a shortened name for RPG Maker XP, although you may need to install the RTP (Run Time Package) first.)

Otherwise please explain how exactly you got scammed.

  • Might not be a scam, I was just asking.

I have the RPG Maker XP and the RTP installed. The keygen didn't work.
I contacted RPG Maker Web, and they gave me an offline manual unlock code. That didn't work either.

  • RPG Maker Web says that Wine has never supported RPG Maker XP.
So thanks for that. They insist on using only Steam.
