SHINY!!!!!!!!!

I finally started Gen IX last weekend ("lol!"), and exactly 20 hours into Violet, I found a shiny Cufant!! I probably would've never known it was a shiny, but when I was battling a Varoom in Area Three of East Province, some Pokémon were wandering around in the background, and two of the Cufant were different colors!! So I knew one of them had to be a shiny, "lol!"

This is my first shiny found while playing through a main game for the first time! I love how you can see the Pokémon wandering around on the overworld, haha. Not long before, I took a ton of screenshots when I saw a Ghastly and thought it was shiny, but they just look kinda blue! And then the next 4 or 5 Ghastly I saw, I also thought they were shiny!! 😅

Looking back at my post history, it looks like this is my first shiny since 2022, and that was a Legends: Arceus one!! Apparently my last shiny from a main game was Seviper back in June 2021 - almost 3 years ago!!!!!!!!!!

This is also post 400 for me!!!! It took me a while, but I've finally broken the tie with SkinnyGreenMan and moved into sole possession of tenth place on the all-time SHC post leaderboard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🥳

Got a lot of shinies from my Scarlet playthrough to check in... =P

First is this little lass:

Came across it while still playing through the game. Quite a bit later, while exploring Area Zero after beating the game, but without the Shiny Charm... I comes across my second full odds shiny of the playthrough, Jumpluff:

Had I not saved before encountering Jumpluff I would've lost it... it had Memento and used it on the first attempt! Blocked it with Substitute on the second try =D

And this next shiny is still a random unhunted one... but I did have the Shiny Charm at this point. Nosepass, while exploring Kitakami:

Skipping ahead to Yesterday, when I came across a shiny Marill while hopping from Raid Den to Raid Den searching for 5 star raids to unlock the 6 star ones:

And not much later I came across a shiny Dunsparce as well while still doing the same thing:

Those were two random shinies (Shiny Charm + boosted by beating an outbreak). No sandwich involved.

Later that day I went for a little shiny hunt... I made a Fairy type shiny sandwich hoping for a 2 for 1 shiny deal =P
I end up catching this here shiny Flutter Mane... which was hiding in a wall and I only noticed it, because it poked it's head out!

After that I made a Psychic shiny sandwich as I already decided that I want that Scream Tail, whether the game gives me a deal on it or not =P

Oddly enough this one decided to hide in a wall too! I was just cruising along the tunnel, pausing to look at the Scream Tails around me when I think I see a purple tail poking out of a wall instead of a pink one. I was assaulted by a regular Scream Tail while staring at it, but as you can see above, I made it over and managed to convince it to pop out of the wall =D

It also has a Mark btw! =3

Moving on to today then... I went to beat down a Froslass outbreak and uh...

Decided that if I can catch it in a Love Ball I'd go put it on my team for DLC 2... and just look at what I caught it in =D

I then started the actual shiny hunt... with a shiny already in the bag =D
I made a Dark type shiny sandwich hoping for a 2 for 1 deal on Brute Bonnet and Roaring Moon... well I got one of them:

I made another Dark type shiny sandwich and went to where Roaring Moons live and... found this little fella instead:

I didn't want to risk finding another shiny I want to keep instead of Roaring Moon so I made a Fighting shiny Sandwich after that, hoping for a 2 for 1 deal on Slither Wing & Great Tusk... and after 2 dud sandwiches of nothing at all... two shiny Slither Wings at the same hecking time on the third attempt!!

I was a very active girl on friend safari this month. The 3ds shutdown galvanized me to revisit games of that era and make sure I did all the shiny hunts I wanted in XY, and get those pokemon to Bank and then home while it's still possible to use Bank.

In my last post here in the shiny hunters club I mentioned that I welcomed a new shiny eevee into my family- Lynx. He came to me by way of a normal friend safari. I had to first encounter and catch a shiny Kecleon there and then a shiny teddiursa, because I guess Eevee wanted to test me and have proof that I was ready to be it's trainer, before it appeared to me. I am happy to have them all though, and have come back to share stories about what else I found on my adventure.


Alluded to this in a "What made you happy today" OT post, but will say celebrate here also that combee was another shiny I obtained via this method, on a bug type hunt. Mine is an impish girl, and I look forward to seeing her become a Vespiquen. Special thanks to my Jigglypuff boy for using his cute charm to attract her. I ran into 2 shiny beautifly first on said safari, before meeting the sought after combee, so my queen will have these golden hummingbird bugs joining her court .

Another tale I have to share is one of a psychic safari where I hunted shiny espurr. As you know by now, I often run into other shiny pokemon before I get my target when I hunt this way, and this time I found shiny Abra first, and it's teleport shennegins were thwarted with the help of Bubblegum (my shiny Wobufett) and it's shadow tag, so now I have a timid, magic guard shiny Abra too.
The hunt for espurr also yielded 2 shiny girafarigs before I closed in on my cat, a calm boy and a hardy girl. One is expected to remain a girafarig, and the other (after being transferred) up to Violet might become a farigiraf in the future.


Espurr eventually came out of hiding, and wad a boy, just as I had hoped. I prefer Male Meowstic because it's more colorful and has bigger, warmer eyes. This bashful-natured kitty happened to also was lucky enough to have his hidden ability own tempo, so upon evolving into Meowstic he would have prankster.

I went hunting for luxio on an electric safari on another day, and I did get him. I love the honey color. Before a luxio came calling, I also spotted a shiny dedenne- which I caught. Not my first shiny dedennne, but it's a great shiny, so I don't mind another candy mouse. I found another shiny Pikachu too, also not my first, but it's still something to be grateful for, and since I found a pika clone, wouldn't be right to not find the real thing. I took my new shiny Pikachu to Pokemon Ultra Sun and trained her to be an Alolan Raichu.


On a different electric safari I came looking for manectric. I found a shiny stunfisk first, which was a little disappointing for a second since it wasn't the charcoal and gold dog I was shooting for, but I still decided to take it home too. I also encountered two dainty pink shiny pacharisu to add to my Pikachu clone collection, and little while later with some patience shiny manectric came up, and this bold baby now sits in my pokemon home.

On a fighting type safari I had quite an ordeal getting the shiny pancham I wanted. I ran into a shiny Machoke, which I have since traded with myself to turn into Machamp, then saw a shiny pancham and thought my hunt was over, but as I tried to weaken it I got myself tossed out of the battle by Pancham's circle throw. I didn't think that hunt through well enough. I knew that pancham could learn circle throw, and had a suction cups malamar to try to thwart a switch out, and proceeded to use my pokemon to hypnotize pancham, but forgot that pancham can also have mold breaker as a possible ability, overriding my ability, and this one happened to have it, and so it threw me and I failed this shiny. I tried again though, and 3 more shiny Machoke later I reclaimed my shiny Pancham, and this time I brought aegislash, the ghost said no fighting moves for you little bear. It turned out to be an iron fist pancham so it wasn't necessary, but best to prepared, just in case. My panda cub's shiny is subtle now, more of a chocolate tone, but will be a stronger red when it becomes Pangoro.

My steel safari brought me a shiny magneton, before I got the shiny metang I was looking for. It's all good though. I like Magnezone, and will make it one. It is calm btw. My docile metang is gorgeous and reminds me so much of Steven Stone, and his shiny metagross from the mega evolution special. This was not my only steel safari hunt, I did one for a shiny foretress, and got a couple of shiny ferroseeds by happenstance in the process.

My fire safari hunt was surprisingly uneventful. I was there for a shiny Braixen and got it, no surprise pokemon. I already had shiny Greninja and shiny Chesnaught, the now with this shiny Delphox to be I am proud to say that I have completed the Kalos starter trio.

I searched one of my flying safaris for a male tranquil with my cute charm clefairy in toe, and did get my boy. I had to encounter and catch the obligatory shiny spearow first, but got my tranquil. The headrest on the male Unfezant means everything to me.

I did one more bug safari, this time it was a vivillon hunt. I got shiny Butterfreed first, but it's good, it's a pretty shiny and I don't mind having another shiny butterfree. Many long hours of riding my bike through he tall grass later came the shiny Vivillon.

I decided to get shiny Ivysaur as well. I already have shiny bulbassur, and thought it would be nice to have a shiny of every stage of the evolutionary line. I did this with Charmander, and think Bulbasaur also deserves the same treatment and eventually Squirtle, because Kanto starters are that epic. I got my wish. There were four shiny oddishes that had to be dealt with first, and after they all joined up I finally got my Ivysaur at long last. A lovely timid chlorophyll user at that! Our hard work really paid off.

Last, but not least I did some dark hunts. While looking for a shiny sabeleye I found an extra shiny sneasel and mightyena, caught them--welcome critters, and eventually days later that precious bronze ghost with the Emerald on it's chest showed its face. She is a careful-natured little lady. I really hope to see it's mega again in Legends ZA, because she will look good carrying a big green jewel.

Then I went searching for shiny pawniard on one dark safari, and found shiny liepard. While, not what I was looking for, it is a pokemon of jaw-dropping beauty, so this was a happy accident indeed. I gave it a little while though, and then I got the brilliant ultra violet pawniard. Can't wait to turn this into Kingambit in the Paldea region. It will be annoying to walk around battling Bisharp's for the leader's crest, but we'll worth it.

My next hunts there will be Golurk and Spiritomb on a ghost safari, breeloom and mienfoo on fighting. Attached is a box of friend safari voyagers sitting pretty.

I went to a Doduo outbreak (which are pretty annoying tbh due to how they behave lol) and found a green Doduo to go with my Green Dodrio from a while ago =3

Kinda funny how that worked out... I didn't have a Star or Ribbon Sweet in Scarlet, but I did have them in Violet.
I manage to get 5 Milceries for the other sweets in Scarlet... and then get another Milcery outbreak in Violet the next day so I can get the remaining 2 =D

I went to a Kanto Geodude outbreak after this and caught two of them to complete my shiny Kanto Geodude line... but that's all for now lol, I'll show those whenever I post next.

Found a Shiny Foongus two days in a row back in March as well as a Shiny Tranquill (evolved into Unfezant for the photo bc pretty). Then last month a Shiny Winter Deerling that KO'd itself after I forgot about its recoil. I also headbutted a Shiny female Burmy hoping for another male to transfer up to my ORAS base team. Learned how to reverse-engineer my original though so gave up on that. Then I found my THIRD Shiny Foongus yesterday and a Swadloon—the rarest non-rustling 'mon on the route—today.

Where's my green ground beetle? ;_;

The first of the two Kanto Geodudes already mentioned in my last post:

Caught it in a Quick Ball straight away. Then on the next meal went and caught another one with a safari Ball... had to reload a couple times as well as put a shiny Golduck into my lead position simply because it had Damp and the dang boulder really liked to use the kuhb00m move xD

yes the time of day changed in between catching attempts... finding a Damp mon in my boxes took long enough for that to be possible I guess xD

I evolved the Safari Ball one all the way into Golem and brought over my shiny Graveler that has been sitting in Home ever since I sent it over from HeartGold =3

I basically only hunted for 2 shiny Kanto Geodudes as it was an easy way to complete the line with the shiny Graveler transferred over from HeartGold sitting in my Home boxes. I already had the complete Alolan line from random encounters (2 shiny Geodude in Violet and a shiny Alolan Graveler in Scarlet).
Only had to do some evolving to turn them into 1 of each stage =D



I also went and sent my Crabominable from Scarlet over to Violet so I could Picnic with both stages of the line =D

So I had a Rowlet outbreak in Violet today :fufu:
I was heading over to check it out and right as I arrive at the edge of it, an unusual color catches my attention out of the corner of my eye. I turn to face it... a shiny Rowlet?!
I haven't even started beating the outbreak down yet... nor do I have the meal active... and there's already 1 on my screen xD

It's also too far away to be from the outbreak, I think. Probably would've despawned it had I progressed to the outbreak further. (just look at the minimap on the screenshot, I'm quite a bit away from the outbreak)
Since it's a lone shiny Rowlet and no meal power is active yet... I went and caught it in a Moon Ball! I only had to reload once for it =3

After that I actually went and beat up 60 Rowlet to improve the odds and then I fetch me the meal power.
Before my first meal even ends the outbreaks suddenly get reset? What, why? T^T
I reload my save and the outbreaks are back to normal so I try again... not sure what's going on. I go through the entire meal power this time without the weird reset too. *shrugs*

I beat up a couple rowlet afterward to see if I need to beat them back down again. Nope it just shows the message for the next phase.
I was about to hit reload... when I see a shiny Rowlet vibing out not far from me. Can't reset now lol
It faints itself with Brave Bird like the last one did on the first attempt. I reload and catch it in a Net Ball at last without weakening it due to a crit catch =D

Feels stingy that it showed up almost right after the meal ended.... but whatever... xD
I replenish my shiny meal power and it's time for another attempt =D
A third shiny Rowlet shows itself and I catch it in a Net Ball with a crit catch at full health again :fufu:

I save before encountering it like usual. Good thing I did. It busts out of the Safari Ball. I reload and... it's gone?! what?! D=
I reload again. Nope, still gone. I'm used to it taking a couple seconds to load in, but... it's just flat out not loading in at all D=

I reload yet again... and now it's in front of me again like as if it was always there... wth? I encounter it and then run so I can save again.
It takes about 6 attempts for me to get a crit catch and see it go in. No more disap00f shiny Rowlet after resaving either. Game had me worried there for a bit D=

I evolve three of them into Dartrix. Then I evolve the Moon Ball one into Decidueye. The Safari Ball one gets sent to PLA to be evolved into Hisuian Decidueye there =D

I'm currently horde hunting Lotad in Alpha Sapphire. Just started the game to shiny hunt it and Lunatone. Probably have done over 8,000 hordes so far and have found 2 shinies. Lotad and Zigzagoon. Hopefully get the other 2 Lotad soon.

Got pretty unlucky with my cafeteria meals last weekend, so I ended up using my last Herba Mystica in Violet for shiny froakies and Chikoritas =3

Friday:
8 attempts at an Oshawott outbreak with the cafeteria meal... and nothing to show for it. I really wish they'd have an outbreak on land. You can spam reset those so much easier and you just waste so much less time. Also can't rule out having potentially missed one due to how similar it is.


Saturday; Froakie and Piplup outbreaks =D
Cafeteria meal #1: Dud. Meal #2: a shiny Froakie appears and volunteers to go into a Dive Ball =D
Meal #3: another dud. Meal #4: also another dud. Ugh I strongly dislike water outbreaks. Meal #5: Yet another dud....

... 1st attempt: another dud. Dang, really?
... 2nd attempt: one shows... 10 minutes left on the clock... but I want to catch one in a Moon Ball and doubt I'll find another one in that time with how my luck is atm. 3 resets and it crit catches. It even has a mark, another one I haven't seen before =O

... 3rd attempt: 2 minutes left on the meal power and one finally shows itself on a cliff at the edge of the outbreak. Into a dive ball it goes... eventually.

As already stated I also had a Piplup outbreak that day... but between all that time wasted on Friday trying for an shiny Oshawott and how long it took to round up 3 shiny Froakie I just didn't have the energy to try going for that as well.

A Chikorita outbreak! =D
After yesterday I'm only trying the cafeteria meal once or twice. If there's no shiny Chikorita by then I'm going the Herba Mystica route. Kinda wish I still had a Level Ball for Chikorita/Bayleef, but I do still have Friend Balls so Meganium is gonna be in one :fufu:

Cefeteria meal #1... is a dud.... and so is the second one....
I'm just gonna go and switch to the shiny sandwich again.

First attempt with the grass shiny sandwich is... also a dud. Dang my luck is atrocious atm.
Second attempt... one shows... and has a Mark, wish I had made it the Friend Ball one now. Oh well. Oh... it's also my only female shiny starter so far =D

I see a Charjabug outbreak... Vikavolt is one of my favorite bugs so I obviously attended
I catch 2 red batteries on my first attempt =D

I attend a dirt rollers convention which has the yellow outbreak effect for boosted shiny odds. I walk away with two shiny rellor, and have 2 minutes left on my meal power so I fly to Paldea for a yellow outbreak effect Magikarp outbreak and see a Golden karp straight away lol =D

I head to a Cramorant outbreak in Kitakami and beat it down till the odds improve. Then I fetch me a meal from the cafeteria and return... and see one pretty much straight away lol

Well... 28 minutes left... I went to check out one of those golden varoom outbreaks despite not liking the thing. I go to the one on Casseroya lake and snag me two of them with 6 minutes to spare.

First attempt... I rub my eyes as I stare down on the Seel below... one looks off to me eventually and it is!

I had a Spinarak & Grubbin outbreak yesterday and as I already caught the rest of the Grubbin line earlier on (post above) and caught a shiny Ariados back in Alola... I of course had to attend to complete their lines =3

I beat down the Spinarak outbreak until it's odds improve and then went to completely beat down a Litleo outbreak... during which a shiny one shows up... pity it's female as I already have 2 female ones, but at least it has a new mark I haven't seen yet.

First attempt at the Spinarak outbreak... nothing.
Second attempt... the blue spider shows up fairly fast so I head off to the Grubbin outbreak for the remaining time.

After beating it down till the odds improve... nothing shows, or I missed it. Gonna be a lot harder to spot than Spinarak.
Back for the next cafeteria meal. It shows up with 5 minutes to spare =3

As I scope out a bugged nearby Kingambit outbreak, where nothing spawns apart from a small group in a cave...
... while I was repeatedly entering and leaving the cave and trying to wait for night time a bright green deer caught my attention...

Yep.. two shinies showed up that I wasn;t hunting for. Guess the bad luck is over or something? Still got shiny hunt fatigue though. Wanna wrap up Scarlet and go play something else already.


On to today... where I respond to a Mimikyu and Illumise outbreak, after I first completely beat down a Shroodle outbreak. I then go and beat down the Mimikyu outbreak untill the odds... wait... one showed up already? I'm not even done yet lol

I exploit that the time of day is being fixed to sunset during the epilogue story to tend to the Illumise outbreak. I beat down the outbreak till it's odds improve and then go to the cafeteria. I get the shiny meal and go back to the Illumise outbreak in Kitakami. One shows up eventually and I catch it =D

12 minutes left on the meal so I'm off to Paldea for a Hariyama outbreak. I beat it down till the odds improve pretty fast and am left with 6 minutes to try and get one...
... and 1 actually shows with 1 minute left on the clock... omg yes. =D

I still regret trading my shiny Hariyama from Emerald tbh. At the time I thought I was okay with it, but I started regretting it more and more as time passed.
Not because I love Hariyama, I like Hariyama, but don't love it. But because it was my first ever shiny... caught all the way back in Emerald.
Seeing a shiny Hariyama on screen again... with a Snowy Mark even... I actually felt a bit teary-eyed at seeing it with that mark. It's not a perfect replacement of course... but Hariyama the Snow Frolicker definitely feels like it was meant to be with me =D
