Started this challenge earlier today on Silver, got myself a Kabutops for it. ;D

    Update:
just beat the elite four with my Kabutops :D

I would upload a pic, but I don't have enough posts.

61:11 play time, level 72 Kabutops, Ancient Power, Hydro Pump, Fury Slasher and Surf, elite four was a breeze. Now for Kanto.

    Second Update:
Finished the Challenge, 84:32 playtime. (It seems speeding up the game affects play time, didn't know that :P)

    Final Update Wooo

    vs. Red
    Pikachu lv 77
    -Headbutt
    -Thunderbolt
    -Hidden power
    -Thunder

I lost SEVERAL times :embarrass, so I will only describe the battle which I won

Vs. Pikachu - Okay, so I started off with a headbutt…some how managed to have more speed than Red's Pikachu. Anyway, headbutt took out more than half of his Pikachu's hp and caused it to flinch! Lucky, I guess. All it took was another headbutt to finish off Red's Pikachu. Much easier than I had anticipated despite being 5 levels below Red's Pikachu.

Vs. Espeon - I really had to watch out for psychic. Pikachu used thunder to get the job done, but it only depleted slightly more than half of Espeon's hp (wish i had a lightball!!) in addition to paralyzing it. Espeon used his deadly psychic, severely damaging Pikachu. I could not risk an "Attack missed" with another thunder, so I countered with a thunderbolt instead to finish off Espeon. Espeon was nothing compared to Red's next pokemon.

Vs. Snorlax - Lol now I know why everyone fears this pokemon! I started things off with thunder which barely dented Snorlax's hp. Snorlax responded with body slam which MURDERED Pikachu. I switched to Totadile and used a revive. After my poor Totadile was crushed, Pikachu used thunder which took out a reasonable chunk of Snorlax's hp this time and paralyzed him. I got VERY lucky after this - Snorlax was fully paralyzed for the next two turns. This saved me a few revives which I could use for later. After a thunder followed by a thunderbolt, Snorlax fainted…ugh. I'm so happy he never used rest.

Vs. Venusaur - Although thunder was not very effective on grass types, it did more damage than headbutt. Venusaur luckily DID NOT use sunny day and prepped up for a solarbeam instead. This gave Pikachu a free turn to use thunder. Each time Venusaur used solarbeam, I was forced to heal with a hyper potion. While Venusaur was taking in sunlight, I attacked. Eventually, I resorted to thunderbolt, as I needed more accuracy. After using my last potion, Venusaur FINALLY fainted from Pikachu's thunderbolt. :knockedou

Vs. Charizard - A pleasant change compared to the last few pokemon. A single thunderbolt left him in critical hp, but flamethrower destroyed Pikachu. :cer_pissed: After being revived, Pikachu used thunderbolt to finish off Charizard. Pikachu also grew to lvl 77.

Vs. Blastoise - I tested my luck with thunder which, of course, missed! :cer_pissed: Blastoise used surf which caused Pikachu to faint. Used another revive. Pikachu used thunderbolt this time and took out more than half of Blastoise's hp. After one more thunderbolt, Blastoise fainted!

And the most difficult, frustrating but entertaining battle came to an end!

    Solo Challenge

Thoughts/Reflections - I noticed that there are quite a few instances where g/s/c really caters to electric pokemon. Anyway, overall there were no issues with most of the trainers and gym leaders (maybe Clair and Jasmine were exceptions) of Johto and Kanto. The Elite 4 and Red, on the other hand, were pretty difficult. Pikachu's special attack was often inadequate for sweeping the opponent's pokemon. If I had attached a light ball to Pikachu, this would have been a different story. Pikachu's weaknesses really became apparent in the battle with Red whose pokemon were at similar level to Pikachu's. I never realized how skilled Red was in g/s/c until this battle. In one of my attempts to defeat Red, his Espeon used reflect and his Snorlax used amnesia rendering all of my attacks against snorlax next to useless.

For the most part though, Pikachu was able to take quite a few hits while sweeping an opponent's entire team. I am very pleased to have used Pikachu in my first solo challenge! ^_^

Try putting Cut on Bayleef in place of Poisonpowder or Tackle, I know it isn't a great move, but you can use the move deleter in Blackthorn to get rid of it and put something more useful on before the E4. That or train to a ridiculously high level. Or have one of your HM Slaves, if you have them, get a sleep move and put Scyther to sleep and go wild with Tackle.

    Update #5
    Spoiler:

    Jaz/Ursaring @ Pink Bow
    - Icepunch/Firepunch/Thunderpunch
    - Slash
    - Faint Attack
    - Lick

    HM Slave I/Totodile
    - Surf
    - Headbutt
    - Cut
    - Whirlpool

    HM Slave II/Psyduck
    - Strength
    - Waterfall
    - Rock Smash
    - Flash

    HM Slave III/Spearow
    - Fly
    - Peck
    - Growl

Decided to add the Pokemon I have into this update, because I'm done with the Johto Gyms. I'll probably do the same once I'm finished the challenge, though the HM Slaves won't change at all, and I'm not sure how much Jaz' moveset will change either, I might lose Lick and put Earthquake in there, but I'm not sure yet, since Lick is useful for Ghosts, but the Elemental Punches would get the same job done on Ghost-types.

i took this challenge with Kingler and defeated it. He finished at level 88. His stats and moves were:

    HP 249 Blizzard
    ATK 313 Surf
    DEF 269 Strength
    SP. A 159 Crabhammer
    SP. D 159
    SPD 199

I just hacked it and started with Krabby instead of Totodile, He fainted a total of 3 times. Twice against Jasmine.. By far my worst battle, because both Magnemites have thunderbolt, and my physical attacks were not very effective against the steel. Reguardless, Krabs the Kingler prevailed

  • Im doing this solo challenge with Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blasoise.

    I entered Falkner's gym with:
    Squirtle Lv.15
    Tackle
    Bubble
    Tail Whip
    Water Gun
I zipped through the first two people,Falkner was no challenge either. Pidgey did a little bit of damage and so did Pidgeotto but other than that it was really easy.
    Left Falkner's gym with:
    Wartortle Lv.16
    Tackle
    Bubble
    Tail Whip
    Water Gun
    I entered Bugsy's gym with:
    Wartortle Lv.21
    Bite
    Water Gun
    Mud Slap
    Bite
I blew through everybody pretty easily, and Bugsy was no problem either. Except for her Scyther. I almost lost, but I ended up winning.
    I left Bugsy's gym with:
    Wartortle Lv.23
    Bite
    Water Gun
    Mud Slap
    Bite

    I entered Whitney's gym with:
    Wartortle Lv.27
    Bite
    Rollout
    Bubble
    Water Gun
Once again I just got through everybody and made it to her, thats when things got different. I lost on my first try so I had to go back and do it again. But I ended up beating her the second time.
    I left Whitney's gym with:
    Wartortle Lv.29
    Bite
    Rollout
    Bubble
    Water Gun
    I entered Morty's gym with:
    Wartortle Lv.32
    Bite
    Rollout
    Surf
    Water Gun
Everybody was really easy because of bite.I beat everybody with bite, but Morty was a bit harder. I almost lost because he put my Wartortle to sleep and used dream eater so I almost lost.
    I left Morty's gym with:
    Wartortle Lv.34
    Bite
    Rollout
    Surf
    Water Gun

    I entered Chucks gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.39
    Bite
    Rollout
    Surf
    Water Gun
Pretty hard gym I mean the first couple guys were kinda easy but after you get past the part where you use strength its hard. I almost lost because he put me to sleep.
    I left Chuck's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.41
    Bite
    Rollout
    Surf
    Water Gun

    I entered Jasmin's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.41
    Dynamic Punch
    Rollout
    Surf
    Water Gun
The Megnemites almost beat me but I got past them and won. Not really much to explain in this gym...
    Blastoise Lv.42
    Dynamic Punch
    Rollout
    Surf
    Water Gun
    I entered Pryce's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.47
    Dynamic Punch
    Rollout
    Surf
    Water Gun
Confusing gym. I went ahead and just decided to beat everybody. They were all pretty easy. But after I was done I just kept fooling around the gym and eventually just ended up at Pryce. Pryce was to easy I just used Rollout the whole time.
    I left Pryce's gym with
    Blastoise Lv.48
    Dynamic Punch
    Rollout
    Surf
    Water Gun

    Sorry I skipped Clair...
I entered the Elite Four with:
    Blastoise Lv.60
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Icy Wind
Will was pretty easy accept for his Slowbro, it took a couple hits to beat that. But other than that I made short work of will.
Second,Koga. Koga was easy I just used surf on all of his pokemon and won easily.
Third,Bruno. Bruno was kinda hard, I couldn't get past his fighting types very easily, but once I did I made short work of his rock types. But his Onix took a couple hits to beat.
Fourth, Karen. She was actually a challenge I almost lost so I used two of my full restores. Luckily I was able to get past her without losing my Blastoise. Now I have a Max Revive left over for the champion.
Champion, Lance. He was extremely hard to beat. I had to use my Max Revive and the last of my Max Potions. I ran out of PP for all of my moves so I ended up winning by using struggle on his Aerodactyle. But I ended up winning the Pokemon League!
I left the Elite Four with:
    Blastoise Lv.63
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Icy Wind

    I entered Lt.Surge's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.64
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Icy Wind
I entered the gym and was kinda disappointed that they removed the trashcan puzzle. But I did go ahead and defeat everybody then went on to Lt.Surge. He was pretty easy. His Electabuzz was a little hard.
    Blastoise Lv.66
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Icy Wind

    I entered Sabrina's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.64
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Icy Wind
I don't know how I did it but I managed to get through Sabrina's gym without facing anybody but her. She was extremely easy to beat, I didn't even take any damage.
    I left Sabrina's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.66
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Icy Wind

    I entered Misty's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.68
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Hydro Pump
Kinda hard because of the water types, and I lost my first try but came back and won.
    Blastoise Lv.64
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Hydro Pump

    I entered Janine's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.71
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Icy Wind
I hate how everybody looks like Janine. But for the most part, an easy gym. I beat Janine easy.
    I left Janine's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.64
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Icy Wind

    I entered Erika's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.72
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Hydro Pump
Hard gym to get through, I lost the first time.. But the second time I beat her but I still almost lost..
    I left Erika's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.74
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Hydro Pump

    I entered Blaine's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.74
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Hydro Pump
Easy peasy. I got past this gym in no time, I just used surf three times and he lost.
    I left Blaine's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.75
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Hydro Pump

    I entered Blue's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.75
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Hydro Pump
I beat his Pidgeot easy, but then I lost to his Exeggutor..
Blue, second try. Once again, I lost to his Exeggutor..
Blue, third try. This time I beat his Exeggutor, then came darn near close to losing to his Gyarados. Then I blasted through his Alakazam, Rhydon, and his Arcanine.
    I left Blue's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.76
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
    Hydro Pump

    I entered Brock's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.76

    I left Brock's gym with:
    Blastoise Lv.77
    Surf
    Whirlpool
    Waterfall
