Well, Clair certainly took long enough (long enough for me to give up for a short while, catching some new Pokemon and getting a Shiny Leaf). I had to reset way too many times to count because Kingdra kept using Hydro Pump and hitting after I took out one of her other Pokemon. I finally got lucky (using BrightPowder) when it missed long enough for me to counter it with a few Smokescreens, only to have Kingdra run out of Pumps first. Other than that, Clair was about as easy as every other Trainer.

In a nutshell, the next part of the trek took me to Dragon's Den, where I picked up the Rising Badge and TM59. I then headed to New Bark, where I got the Master Ball and news about the Kimono Girls. Afterward, I went and fought the Girls at their theater and received the Clear Bell. Next I flew back to Blackthorn and picked up the Extremespeed Dratini. Finally I headed back to Ecruteak to go after Ho-oh.

*Slight deviation from Solo Run, although no experience was gained and I have no plans to take Ho-oh out of the box*
At the top of Bell Tower, I witnessed the Kimono Girls' dance and Ho-oh's arrival. Going into the actual capturing, I had to battle him three times. First time, I forgot I had Thunder Wave on Dratini, so I sent him out last and ran out of Revives for the others. Second time, Ho-oh got in way too many critical hits to be fair. Third time, I started with SmokeScreen, switched for Thunder Wave, then switched back for damage. When it got to the yellow-red border, I switched to Sentret and Quick Attacked for a little more damage. Then I started throwing balls. With one Pokeball, Ho-oh was mine. Next stop: The Pokemon League.

With Cyndaquil and the HM Pokemon, I set off east of New Bark to head to the ultimate challenge (to this point). Nothing eventful happened over the course of 2 waterfalls and 2 routes, so the trip to the reception gate was fairly easy. Past the badge check, we entered the mostly trainer-less Victory Road where we encountered Kyle again. The battle was nothing compared to the ordeal to come (again, SmokeScreen took care of Feraligatr's accuracy, and everything was Flamethrower-ed to death).

The E4 was fairly difficult. The first time, I gave up at Bruno due to it being Tuesday and I wanted to take on the Bug contest again (won another Sun Stone). I then headed back to restart my challenge with more items. For whatever reason, Will decided to have Slowbro use Curse several times, which wound up having no effect, as both Pokemon were Special users. Considering three of Koga's team were part bug and he always used Venomoth last, I had no real problems with him, except a few wasted PP due to Protect. I had to start using items by Bruno, whose Machamp caused the most trouble (I wound up swapping Amulet Coin for Choice Specs for this one). Karen was on the same level as most other trainers in the world, with only Houndoom's Flash Fire as an annoyance (using Amulet Coin didn't cause an issue here).

Lance...was a PAIN. Not as much so as Clair was (I ended up using the same strategy, including the BrightPowder), but still a pain. The battle took most of what was left of my Super/Hyper Potions, Moomoo Milks, and Full Heals. I was even forced to use an Elixir. Gyrados' Waterfall came really close to wiping out Cyndaquil every single time he used it (good thing it was his only water attack). Rock Slide did the same, except Aerodactyl turned out to be faster than Cyndaquil. Dragonite #1 (lv. 50) had good Sp. Def, but also Outrage, which gave me a little help. Dragonites #2 and 3 kept Thunder Waving, which meant that I had to Full Heal every other turn (I only carried one Paralyze Heal). Charizard was Lance's closer, so that was a relief; still, I battled extremely defensively (healed after every Air Slash, a move that really would have needed a normal hit and a critical hit to take Cyndaquil out) to make sure I didn't lose and have to start over. All I can say after that battle is SmokeScreen was probably one of the best moves ever invented, which is strange because I never used it prior to this game.

After that thrilling/suspenseful battle, I finally achieved the midpoint of this challenge: induction into the Hall of Fame, which is the first time since Yellow's Pokédex runs that I didn't get a 6-member party registered as Champions and the first time ever that I got a 1-member party in. Now it's off to the Kanto region, where even more fun awaits.

    Location: New Bark Town
    Time : 38:31
    Pokédex: 70
    Pokemon:
    Cyndaquil Lvl. 68 w/ BrightPowder
    HP /Atk/Def/Sp. Atk/Sp. Def/Speed
    163/96/94/109/82/136
    Swift/Flamethrower (Now fully PP up-ed)/SmokeScreen/Eruption

Last update, I said I was headed for Kanto. In the end, I put this on hold for a short while, instead going to the newly opened Battle Frontier and giving Cyndaquil a chance at the Battle Hall, where I set him up against straight Water types. He lost twice to Slowbros, which also happened to be Will's only Pokemon to give him trouble during my first shot at the E4. Oh well. We went back to National Park after getting the Nat'l Dex, where I caught Wurmple for 1st place and a Water Stone. Now I was ready for the Kanto Region.

Upon arriving in Kanto, my first priority was to get the map filled out for Fly. As a result, I had to fix the Power Plant and catch Snorlax before I could cover Pewter, due to my secondary goal being to take the gyms on in order.

Brock took more tries than Lance did, resulting in me giving up for a short while to head south, training and adding Viridian, Pallet, and Cinnabar to the map, as well as the Silver Wing to my bag. Upon my return, I found Brock to be slightly easier now that a full-powered Eruption could OHKO his Graveler, Onix, and Rhyhorn, while Kabutops didn't do the same with Aqua Jet. A few SmokeScreens and Omastar/Kabutops both went down, earning me the Boulder Badge and TM80. With those in hand, I went to Celadon to teach Double Team to Cyndaquil, started to collect Gym Leader numbers (I've gotten Pryce, Morty, Jasmine, and Chuck), and now it's off to Mt. Moon and then to Cerulean.

    Location: Mt. Moon Pokemon Center
    Time : 49:38

    Swift/Flamethrower/Double Team (2x PP-upped)/Eruption

Pidgeotto (Evolved through Double Battles): Fly
    Furret (Same as Pidgeotto): Surf/Whirlpool
