    Like the title says, who did you like more as a champion. Honestly, I think Wallace should have stayed as the 8th gym and they shouldn't have even brought in Juan and in Emerald the Champion AND the 8th gym are Water, so.. no Juan, and Steven as the champion in my opinion.
     
    In reference to what? Ruby and Sapphire remakes, canon? While I liked Steven better as a champion, I respect the canon that pokemon Emerald has established. If they were to remake the games (fingers crossed), I think they should just leave it how they has it in Emerald. Just follow the same precedent.
    Although, it's kind of strange having two water type users in the same league. But on the other hand, realistically, this could easily happen. As far as i'm concerned, the Pokemon League doesn't set a rule that says there can't be more than one gym leader or E4 member with the same type.
    While I stand by my opinion that Wallace should remain champion and Juan the final gym leader, I do hope that we see Steven with a larger role in the future. Maybe a lead role in a Battle Frontier remake? Or at a Battle Tower? Maybe we could get a little back story on him. Why did he actually leave the E4? Am I asking for too much here? I don't really think so :/
     
    They both had mono-type teams, but I think I like Wallace better, as he was more difficult for me to go up against. When I'd faced him in Emerald, he was able to get through all my team members pretty swiftly; none of my Pokémon had much of a chance against his. Steven, on the other hand, was sort of easy. Had Blaziken on my team, and it was able to sweep almost all his Pokémon with combination of Blaze Kick, Earthquake, and Sky Uppercut. If his Pokémon were a bit higher in terms of level, then it definitely would've been more challenging. d:
     
    I gotta go with Steven. It doesn't make sense to beat the 8th Gym leader, then practically play a similar team as the champion.
    I don't even remember Steven's team, I've just played Emerald for so long, but he definitely should have stayed the champion. However, he did act as someone stronger than the champion later on in the game, so I can't complain.
     
    I voted Steven, but now that I'm thinking about it I don't honestly know. I lost my Sapphire version some time ago, so I can't remember what it was like to face him as the champion. I am playing Emerald now (although not exactly in this moment), and Wallace was kind of a breeze. Then again, I did have a Jolteon on my team that did a lot of the ground work on Wallace. Basically took everyone out. Facing Steven later in the game I definitely struggled, but I don't know if he was that challenging in Sapphire. It's up the air for me.

    I will say though, going to Sootopolis and not seeing Wallace waiting in that gym is somewhat depressing. Juan is nice but... Well, he's just nice.
     
    I'd go with Steven, as his team is a bit more diverse when it comes to types. You can easily take out most of Wallace's Pokemon with a good Electric type (ie. Manectric, Raichu)
     
    Although Wallace's Champion chamber is a bit more pretty in my opinion and I enjoyed the addition of Juan as a Hoenn Gym Leader, Steven Stone was much better suited as the Hoenn Champion. Steven's team was a bit more diverse (while 4/6 of Wallace's team succumbs to "LOL Thunderbolt", with Ludicolo taking neutral damage from Electric-type attacks and Whiscash being completely immune due to being part Ground-type), and he even employed the 2 Hoenn Fossil Pokemon, Armaldo and Cradily, and the guy knew how to effectively use a Claydol.. Plus, Steven's signature Pokemon, Metagross, attacks ferociously with Earthquake while Champion Wallace's signature Pokemon Milotic just...Recovers a lot.. >_> Also, the influx of Water-type Pokemon League members did not help matters in Emerald (and alongside Juan and Wallace, even Glacia could count as a Water-type pseudo-specialist, as 60% of her team is Water-type, with the remaining 20% being the pure Ice-type Glalie). I know Hoenn has a lot of water and surfing and diving, but sheesh. >_>

    If a Ruby/Sapphire remake is made, I would want it to be a mix of the Ruby/Sapphire and Emerald canons, with Juan as the 8th Gym Leader (his design seems to mesh well with the other Gym Leaders due to its vibrancy.. or something) and Steven Stone as the rightful Hoenn Champion. Wallace could be a roaming Trainer like he was in the Pokemon anime (maybe fought on the Abandoned Ship, as water likely contributed to the vessel's demise), with a Pokemon team possessing strength on par with Emerald Steven Stone's team (I still hope that Steven's Champion team gains levels during rematches, like what Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen did with its "second wave"). This way, Steven gets re-instated in his appropriate position, Juan gets to stay, and Wallace brings a whole new spin on things in regards to battling..

    1. The first 3rd Generation game I played was Ruby.

    2. I actually lost to Steven once (god, this is embarrassing), and never to Wallace. Steven spammed critical-hit Hyper Beams with his Metagross, OHKOing everyone in my team.
     
    I prefer Steven. I never liked how they brought in Juan and made Wallace champion in Emerald. Steven killed my team so many times, I started to think it was impossible to beat him. I beat Wallace on my first try. It doesn't really make sense to have Wallace as champion with Steven's parts in the storyline. I didn't even know that you could still battle him in Emerald until recently. Why set up Steven like that in the storyline and then just put him in an out of the way place where you can only battle him once?
     
    Steven. The Steel type is an underrated type, so I was happy that Steven was a master of it. His team's really strong, consisting of that monster Metagross and Aggron, and crazy, defensive demons such as Skarmory and Cradily.

    That annoyed me a lot, too. I mean, 2 water-type gym leaders, an Elite Four who uses mostly Water/Ice combination Pokemon, and a region that's surrounded by water. Hoenn is truly Atlantis before it sunk, which is why I picked Steven over Wallace. Also, I prefer brute force over stally tactics. :p
     
    I think Steven made a more fitting champion to be honest. Wallace felt underwhelming and should've stayed a leader.
     
    Going to have to go with Steven since he was the first person to successfully use the steel type pokemon and give me a challenge (unlike Jasmine who gets wrecked and is a joke).
     
    I agree with you, OP.

    Juan felt completely unnecessary. Wallace should have remained in the 8th gym, and Steven as the rightful champion. Steven is definitely tougher to beat, has a far more battle-oriented lifestyle, and definitely suits the role way better. Wallace is strong, but he just isn't strong enough to rule over Hoenn as the champion.

    Wallace's role should have been the same as it was in the anime : Contest Master.
     
    Steven is much more deserving of the title 'Champion', for sure. Wallace is an extremely skilled and powerful trainer, as well as quite the connoisseur of contests, but didn't fit well in his newfound role that Emerald awarded him. Juan, a nice concept overall, shouldn't have ever existed. Or maybe they could have done something similar to what has been done with Drayden and Iris and make Ruby version feature Juan as the 8th gym leader, and Wallace in Sapphire version.
