The Beginning Letter Challenge

I'll do this challenge on a Sinnoh game, probably Pearl.

As for Charmander/Baltoy/Corfish, as they are unobtainable pre-N'dex, I will obtain them by trading in eggs. Zubat and Numel will be caught in game.

BTW, I have a question. What if your letter doesn't work with any of the starters? For example, if you're playing Gold/Silver/Crystal, and you get an S? Then you won't be able to leave New Bark Town because your starter violates the rules.

Thanks. You don't have to beat Red, he's just a challenge after you do beat the game. Beat the Elite Four + Champion and you beat the game [ excluding completing the Pokedex ]

BTW, I have a question. What if your letter doesn't work with any of the starters? For example, if you're playing Gold/Silver/Crystal, and you get an S? Then you won't be able to leave New Bark Town because your starter violates the rules.

I think this is the only time when you're allowed to cheat, I could be wrong so check with the thread owner,but once you receive your starter, I think you're allowed to cheat and substitute that starter with another Pokemon with your letter. A fair one, obviously.

So, if you're playing Emerald and you chose Treecko, but your letter is V, then you can make it so that a Vulpix appears in the wild, catch it, then release Treecko and have Vulpix as your 'starter'.

But remember, since you'll be playing Blue version, If you get a V then you can pick Bulbasaur because Bulbasaur > Ivysaur > Venasaur.

For a Starter, I'll pick Charmander. Oh god... I just realized, this early game is gonna be hell with only a Kakuna. So anyways, I'm speeding through the early game stuff. The first pokemon I'm gonna catch is a Weedle, and I'm going to evolve it into a Kakuna. Which I'll probably ditch when I get my 2nd team member.

Edit: I have now caught Weedle and evolved it into Kakuna.

Okay, here we go. Deets and screenshots in the spoiler tags.

Spoiler:

• I started the game on Blue, named myself Ned, rival Saul.
• Chose Squirtle, named him N Slave.
• After the early game stuff, I caught a Nidoran♀ and a Nidoran♂ on Rt 22 outside Viridian.
• Grinded Nidoran♂ through Virdian Forest and outside Pewter and got him to L13.
• In the the gym, Nidoran♂ got to L14 before facing Brock.
  
  
  
  
  Nidoran♂ got several critical Horn Attacks on Geodude to take him down. After a Potion and 6 Leers, he got Onix to 1 HP before falling to Bide, and my L4 Nidoran♀ finished Onix with a Tackle, and promptly grew to L9 :D.
  
  
• Next I went through Mt Moon without much trouble. I taught Water Gun to Nidoran♀.
• Both of them evolved inside Mt Moon into Nidorino and Nidorina. I also caught a Clefairy in there named Fairy as a future Flash/Teleport slave.
• Upon reaching Cerulean City, I caught a Spearow to trade for Farfetch'd later on.
• Beat Saul pretty easily, although Pideotto beat Nidorina. Nidorino was able to take down the rest with Horn Attack.
• After beating Nugget Bridge and reaching Bill's house, I went to the gym.
• Both Nidorina and Nidorino were at L23, so I used the Moon Stone to evolve Nidorino into Nidoking, who then learned Thrash.
  
  
  
  
  Misty was not hard. Nidoking swept with four Thrashes, although Water Gun/Bubblebeam threatened to take him down. He grew to L24 as well.
  
  
• Taught Bubblebeam to Nidorina.
• Went down to Vermilion City, goth the Bike Voucher and traded Spearow for Dux, the Farfetch'd.
• After getting the Bicycle, I took on the S.S. Anne, eventually fighting my way to the second fight against Saul. Taught Body Slam to Nidorina.
  
  
  
  
  Swept with Nidorina.
  
  
• Got Cut (went to Dux), then challenged the gym.
  
  
  
  
  Nidoking is OP at this stage with Thrash.
  
  
• Taught Thunderbolt to Nidorina.
• Went through Diglett's Cave, and caught one to get to 10 Pokemon.
• Got Flash, taught it to Fairy.
• Went through Rock Tunnel, picking up Teleport on the way (taught to Fairy as well).
• Reached Laveder Town and inside the Pokemon Tower, I fought Saul for the thrid time.
  
  
  
  
  Easy as ever, Nidoking is still OP. He got confused and hurt himself a couple times but was able to pull it out without deferring to Nidorina.
  
  
• Outside Lavender Town, I caught the final member of my team, a Vulpix named Flare.
• Am currently training Flare up.

Team Ned:

Flare (Vulpix) - L18
Moves: Quick Attack, Ember, Tail Whip

Rex (Nidoking) - L34
Moves: Horn Attack, Focus Energy, Leer, Thrash

Regina (Nidorina) - L37
Moves: Body Slam, Bite, Thunderbolt, Bubblebeam

And 3 slaves - Dux (Farfectch'd) with Cut, Fairy (Clefairy) with Flash and Teleport, and Digger (Diglett) with Dig.

Okay, since I have an S, I'll be using Sceptile, Swellow, Sharpedo, and Swalot. (plus 2 HM slaves)

Spoiler:

*Began the game. Set my clock, and went into Brendan's house. He left.
*Rescued Birch from the Poochyena. Picked and obtained Treecko.
*Nicknamed my Treecko 'Incognito'.
*Already wishing that I had running shoes, I set off to Oldale Town.
*Incognito learns Absorb after defeating two Wurmple.
*Grinded Incognito to level 8. Healed up before taking on Brendan.

*Easily Destroyed Brendan.
*Leveled up Incognito a bit more before heading back to get the Running Shoes. He's now at level 10.
*Defeated some trainers on the way to Petalburg. Easy fights.
*Incognito learns Quick Attack during the fight with Youngster Allen.
*Caught Zigzagoon. Named it 'MickZagger'. (lawl) Going to be one of my HM slaves.

*Now at Petalburg. Yay.
*Wally caught his pokemon. Now, I'm going to catch Taillow.
*Caught it, and named it 'Aero'.
*Currently leveling up Aero.

Current Team:

Peck, Growl, Focus Energy

Incognito (Treecko) Lv. 12
Pound, Leer, Absorb, Quick Attack
