  • My favorite link has to be the Minish Cap link or the Oracles link. One because he has a talking bird hat and the other cause he stars in 2 of the best Zeldas ever. Capcom if listening please make a duo of Zelda's again with the password system. Kthnxbai.

  • Young Link from OoT and MM for me. It's an interesting character to think about. He doesn't quite fit in, he's grown as a no-fairy in a forest where such a thing is abnormal. The relationships he has... the Deku Tree is like a father and Saria is like an older sister or mother. Such a determined attitude to do what was thrust upon on - be it his destiny or not.

Becoming an adult - or rather a child in an adult body, and then back to a child with the knowledge of what the future will become if he doesn't stop Ganondorf... It's just interesting.

And then there's reliving the same three days over and over in MM. I think he's had it the toughest of all the Links

  • Hmm yes he has it harder then most links that is agreeable. But then again the same can be said for TP link. His struggles are a lot more worse then the other links. I mean look:
-He is responsible for 3 young children's safety.
-He has a whole town to care for.
-He has to deal with his inner beast.
-Has to be the escort of the damn imp girl
-Deals with a lot more mythology and gets quite a few mindmelts in the game.
-Overall he has to deal with a darker world and the dark.

If I had to pick favorite link for his struggles then it has to be TP link.

  • My favourite Links are Ocarina of Time's Link and Twilight Princess' Link.
That first one is most likely the one who has the hardest time, not just physically (which is basically the same for all Links), but emotionally. After all, he was thrown from a (guessing here) 10 year-old kid who lived his live without a fairy, being only accepted by his friend, Saria, into adulthood 7 years later.
When he woke up, Link knew nothing of what the world had come to, nor did he know what he had come to. He did not have those 7 years everyone else had... he had changed, a lot. It's a miracle he didn't go crazy. I guess that for him, waking up was like waking up from a coma...
In a way, I think he was really lonely... even more so then when he was a kid. At least then he had steady ground beneath his feet, as an adult he has to struggle to find that steady ground. Get what I mean?

As for Twilight Princess Link... He's the one with responsability. As mitchman said, he has to look after those 3 children... As he kinda promised to search for them and guarantee their safety, even though he didn't knew at that point they were okay... more or less.
He bears responsability for Midna as well (she's no damn imp >:, I like her), when she was hurt so badly by Zant.
And it's just awesome that he can change into a wolf...

(ps, don't go saying that the other links don't bear responsability... Of course they do, for the fate of the entire world of Hyrule (and beyond) rests on their shoulders.. And WindWaker Link bears responsability for his sister... Yet I find it a little different in TP. ^^" )

  • While every link has responsibilities link of TP has much more then before. He also is somewhat a leader of sorts. I hope a more serious role is given to him next game. Hopefully a royal guard.

  • I don't know about Link being a guard. He might not have much of a purpose as he would have if he was just an average farmer/person whatever.

  • Link should just be Link

He should not be a guard, it would be expected for him to be a Hero. Plus, I like him being an average Joe =]

  • TP's Link was my favorite. Followed closely by OoT's link (young). TP was an amazing game and I loved every minute of it, and I really enjoyed the art style they threw into that game. It showed a darker side to Link.

OoT's Link was just totally awesome because he doesn't afraid of Jabu Jabu. xD

  • Well I mean about the guard thing is how does he come up near this mysterious girl? Its obvious she will be near him from the start or so, so how would she meet her? If its another bloody forest then ugh..but you get what I mean. I want link to be an important figure and have a role in the grand design more then some random freaking fairy boy in the forest who knows how to use a sword. But whatever I just am getting a teeny bit bored of it.

  • He wasn't some fairy boy who knew how to use a sword in TP though ;x

Honestly, I'd be a bit disappointed if they made him a guard or whatever for Zelda or whatever kingdom. It'd be a disappointment.

  • Well, I see what you mean mitchman, but you know there will be probably some forest. Thats what makes Zelda... Zelda. If there was no forest, I'd be sad. I think he might meet that weird Zora/Master Sword girl maybe by a lake or some kind of water place. I'm not sure.

  • Well of course there will be a forest with a forest maze in some tree. Just this time stumble upon this forest not live in it. Also Retro(Nintendo's 2nd party Developers of Metroid Prime fame) are hyping up about a project they are on. I hope that a Retro made Zelda is their project.

  • He doesn't have to start in a forest, he hasn't most of the time. It just has to be a small village. The idea isn't that he's a forest boy, it's that given his life so far, the task before him seems unlikely. That what he is about to embark on is bigger than him and bigger than his village. He is a nobody, starting small, who does something grand.

Think like Luke Skywalker and his loley life on Tatooine before embarking to save Princess Leia. He was stuck on a farm. His friends had all gone. He had nothing. And then, by unique circumstances he was able to start something bigger than him and his planet.

It's a common character archetype. That's what Link is. For him to start as a royal knight or guard would not work. For him to save the princess would not be unlikely, as that is his job.

Yes. Sums it up perfectly. It just wouldn't make a lot of sense for him to a guard. Its plausible, but I can't see it. For me, its too... bland.

  • I completely agree with Triforce89~

Him being a guard just wouldn't be "adventurous" and be a bit dull if you ask me. Like I said before, he would be obligated to go and rescue the princess or whoever which doesn't make it interesting since you'd be expecting that. I think it's more interesting to see him as a nobody who suddenly turns into this great hero.

I actually don't mind the idea of Link being a guard, as long as he gets to work on his own and he doesn't spend the entire game following orders and stuff. Apart from that, I think it could be a fun twist on the traditional Zelda story. He could still start out as a nobody for tradition's sake, but he'd be a nobody guard, like a new recruit or something, and then he'd work his way up somehow...

I'm not too sure where I'm going with this, but I do think that mitchman's idea has potential.

  • No he wouldn't technically be in contact. He would see short glimpses of here but otherwise all his orders are from his squad leader. Being a measly guard he could be sent on some wagon protecting quest(from the start yes. I want nutjob impossible mission at the start happening in games again) when he gets lost in the woods with some fairy girl.

  • See... I don't like that. Link shouldn't be a guard. It takes a way from the originality. If you are already at the castle, the level of exploring goes down IMO. It takes a few screens to get to Hyrule Castle. Sure you could probably explore the castle but meh... thats not cool IMO.

And wagon protecting doesn't sound exciting or something like that.
