The Monotype Challenge

So we can only apply for the new Ultimate Challenge and not for the "oldschool" Gen V challenge? I have a 3DS and a copy of X, but I don't want to sacrifice all of my progress :/

Sorry, times are changing. As new games come out so does the definition of an Ultimate. The whole point is to beat the challenge in each region, so for anyone to exclude Kalos after its release would not qualify. I personally own a copy of both X and Y, so I can keep a main game and a challenge game. I did the same thing in Generation 5. I know not everyone can afford to do that, but I won't be changing the rules again til the Hoenn Remakes, and that will only be to qualify Fairy as an Ultimate capable type. Best of luck to you.

You can't hack it in as your starter since other Bug types are available early in the game. However, you should be fine hacking/trading it in when you reach the point in the game where you can find it in FR.

Yo, finally finished my Fire challenge:

Final Update, Fire Challenge, Black 2:
-After saving the world from Neo Team Plasma, I took a relaxing vacation at the villa that was given to me as thanks fo--wait, that didn't happen. People are so unappreciative about what you do in these games. Guys, I saved the world from a serious criminal organization, without any help, AGAIN.

-Anyway, I made my way through Route 23
-got the HM for Waterfall from N
-cleared Victory Road
-stocked up on a bunch of healing items and did a bit of last minute training

The League challenge (it wasn't nearly as bad as my Rock challenge was btw):

I started with Grimsley. His Liepard was a bit annoying initially because it used Attract (why would a pig fall in love with a cat?), but Emboar KO'd it at the last second. But after that it was ok.

My Chandelure is better than yours! 4 Shadow Balls later, and I was movin' on.

Caitlin was also easy. Took out half her pokes with Chandelure, the other half with Volcarona.

Marshal wasn't as bad as I thought he'd be. Though he did take out a couple of my Pokemon. Fighting types and their Rock attacks...

And then finally:

This match wasn't so easy. But hey, I kinda had a type disadvantage.... I started with Emboar, but her Hydreigon knows Surf (why Surf on a Hydreigon when it can fly though?). Fortunately, some Quick Claw hax let me take it out. Then I quickly dropped her Aggron with a couple Bulldozes. And then came the Haxorus. God damn was it a pain in the ass with the Dragon Dances and that Full Restore. But I finally beat it through a series of Revives and Intimidates from Arcanine, finally finishing it with Volcarona....who was quickly dispatched by a Rock Slide from Iris's Druddigon. Fortunately, I got Chandlure to burn it, which bought me enough time to get some of my team back on its feet and KO it. Took out Lapras with Chandelure and then finished the match by having Darmanitan beat down her Archeops. Whew.

Just finished up with my Flying monotype on Black 2! Team Plasma wasn't too difficult to handle, and by the time I got to the Elite 4 I was a little overleveled so they didn't prove to be too much of a challenge. I defeated them by going clockwise, taking care of Shauntaul, Grimsley, Caitlin, and then Marshall. Finally, it was time to battle Iris! Luckily, I had the right type coverage to take on her Dragons and the rest of her team. Overall, Sigilyph was the most valuable Pokemon, closely followed by Swanna. They both had nice attacking stats and good type coverage. Unfezant was also reliable, being a heavy hitter especially with Return. Unfortunately, Mandibuzz was more of a source of frustration than anything throughout the challenge. However, she was mildly useful against a few of the Elite Four..
Now all that is left in my Flying Ultimate is to take on the Kalos region! (Which I'll hopefully be getting to eventually...)
