  • Alright, I decided to finally, FINALLY Settle my score against FireRed and Kanto in our grass monotype before I go on to finish the Hoenn challenge. I wasn't able to make an appropriate update post regarding my Kanto grassmono run because of real life duties but I'll be as honest as I can regarding how I went through the process.

Basically, Two Island was my last grinding spot for all of my mons who needed leveling. I eventually got my Parasect Yoonie, Victreebel LittleJenny, and the rest to appropriate levels through endlessly fighting Two Island's Fearows, Golducks, Slowbros, and Persians, who all gave good amounts of EXP when KO'd. Also, the cape island tutor for Venusaur Maplestreet's Frenzy Plant proved to be the best plan of action to settle the challenge once and for all.

And MY GOD, I FINALLY, FINALLY DID IT!

Kanto Grass monotype Finale: VS Elite Four and Champion

To sum up, FireRed Throwback (Modded version of Pokemon FireRed, Game used for our Kanto Grass monotype run) have their Elite Four and Champion at higher levels than regular FRLG.

    Vs
    The Monotype Challenge
    Lorelei:
    The Monotype Challenge

    Spoiler:

After the bout with Lorelei, I had to use my revives on who got KO'd - Yoonie and LittleJenny.

    VS
    The Monotype Challenge
    Bruno
After the hell i went through against Lorelei, we were ready for Bruno, who is a far easier challenge against Lorelei with our team.

    Spoiler:

After bruno, once again, revives and healing potions where used on our fall gals, Yoonie and Victreebel.

    The Monotype Challenge
    - OH DEAR GOD!

I remember getting our ass kicked by him in our initial try. Our team wasn't that level'd the first time facing him. And the creator of FireRed Throwback decided to make him even tougher especially against a team without any Ice Moves. +2 levels over the original FRLG Elite Four is not a joke.

    Spoiler:

Fighting the FRLG Elite Four who in this version of FireRed, who all have pokemon being two levels higher than the original FRLG E4 meant that a +2 level difference meant a lot of stats. What was mortifying was that the champion, much like the Elite Four in this game, also have pokemon 2 levels higher than the original FRLG!

It all came down with the wire. I had to use every revive, full potion, and ether and elixirs to settle our score with Kirito, whose Charizard gave us so much hell. I also forgot to mention, his Pidgeot has also been a problem against our Kanto Grass team, as well as his Alakazam. The fact that he has 3 pokemon to solidly wreck our team was the reason why i had to train a lot in One, Two, and Three Island.

Update #2: Bug - Fire Red
This Bug Monotype isn't too difficult, probably because my team only consists of three Pokémon (right now) and they're a bit higher leveled than the opposing Pokémon. Though I'm still not looking forward to that Charizard.

  • Johto Grass monotype update - Fresh start, back to basics!
Hoenn's Leafa is still busy training hard for the eventual battle against the Hoenn Elite and Wallace.

We're taking a trip down memory lane were we go back to the simpler and less mathematically concerned times: classic Gen 2. No EVs and No natures to worry about, just simple knock out monsters for Stat EXP (which is old school EVs) so I do not have to worry about which monsters I have to take out.

Our game will be played under Pokemon Crystal: Emu Edition by LocksmithArmy = Basically a pokemon crystal game meant to be played for Emulators along with other modifications for more convenient gameplay:
    Spoiler:

Kanto's Leafa has happily retired as a Grass monotrainer from her glorious victory over FireRed Throwback, but her distant cousin, also named Leafa has now started her own pokemon journey in Johto.

The story so far: Since i'm going so fast, might as well make this post up to Bugsy.

    Spoiler:

    Team:

CHELEENE, M Bayleef, lvl20 - Tackle, Poison Powder, Razor Leaf, Reflect

= Already he has 2 useful moves to help survive our adventure. Razor Leaf has his primary STAB and Reflect to protect ourselves from Physical damage. That protection will be heavily needed against Falkner. I removed growl in exchange for Poison powder because we already have reflect, a far better choice for damage mitigation as it benefits the team, and Poison Powder is an amazing move for DoT Damage.

MOOPZ, M Bellsprout, lvl19 - Vine Whip, Growth, Wrap, Sleep Powder
= I'll be a little more utility friendly with Bellsprout this time since I don't want to stick with just attacking with moves. Grass pokemon are known for their utility and we should stick with such. Sleep Powder is chosen to help stall down threats.

PUTPUN F Oddish, lvl8 - Absorb, Sweet Scent

Part of our team is a lvl4 Pidgey to provide flight later on, and a Geodude for Strengh and Rock Smash.
The Togepi we got from Mr Pokemon hatched. Unforunately, we can't use him so we call him NO

Hello all, I'm back from a break from PC with some updates to my Poison challenges. I've finished Black 2, restarted Soul Silver (for probably the fifth time), and lost my X data in a horrible accident. I'm not in a position where I can post stats, but I certainly will when I'm able to, which will actually be in about an hour.

  • Hoenn Grass monotype final update

So there we have it. Finally, finally, finally after a few off days, we finally settled our score with our most favorite monotype challenge yet.

    What went on:
    - Grinded all of our pokemon till they got their respective effort ribbons.
    - Bought some consumables to aid in the final battle
    - Gave the Earthquake TM to Inca, our Cradily.
    - Basically that was it. Training at Victory Road provided a safe amount of EXP for everyone.

    VS Hoenn Elite Four:
I put the battle on SET to make our challenge with the Elite Four and Champion Wallace a lot more challenging, as it increased the tension of what can happen.

    VS
    The Monotype Challenge
    Sidney
    - Even though he was the lowest level'd of the E4, he was quite a challenging opponent compared to what would most people do to him.
    Spoiler:

= Used revive on Jrooce and a potion since he got KO'd by Absol. Seeing that this is STILL ON SET, I put Doreimo, our Ludicolo, on the lead this time.

    VS
    The Monotype Challenge
    Phoebe
    Spoiler:

= basically we SWEPT Phoebe with one Pokemon, Doreimo. Surf on STAB is so good, but that CRIT SHADOW Ball made me wonder what if I never invested any method of making Doreimo beefy...

    VS
    The Monotype Challenge
    Glacia
    - Glacia is pretty much known for having the MOST BORING Pokemon lineup in RSE. I wasn't in the mood to have a long battle with her either.
    Spoiler:

= This could have become an epic Breloom Jippangyi sweep if the Sky Uppercut on Walrein did not miss.. I mean how can you miss a fat ass Walrus! RNG wasn't good to me this day.

    VS
    The Monotype Challenge
    Drake.
Unlike our confrontation with Lance, I wasn't too scared with taking on Drake since we had 2 Pokemon that were capable of KO'ing Dragon types. Doreimo with Ice Beam, and our Roselia Yuri with Hidden Power Ice. I put Yuri on the lead, to save the stronger one for last.

    Spoiler:

= Oh boy. Drake was a lot of fun, like the battle with Sidney. It was quite tense as well. Maybe i should have sicked Doreimo at Salamence since he didn't have any super effective moves against Doreimo's typing.

    VS
    The Monotype Challenge
    Wallace:
    The Monotype Challenge
    The Monotype Challenge
    The Monotype Challenge
    The Monotype Challenge
    The Monotype Challenge
    The Monotype Challenge

it was down to the wire. The final challenge to end this run (for now). I was hyping up if I could sweep Wallace with Asuna but I had to see if it was possible.

    Spoiler:

    The Monotype Challenge

Welcome our Hoenn Grass monotype champions! Doreimo, Asuna, Jippangyi, Jrooce, Inca, and Yuri

  • Johto Grass monotype update 3: WARPATH!

After stopping by Morty and Eruteak City, our Johto Grass team went on a serious rampage against most of the content in Johto.
    The Monotype Challenge
    The Monotype Challenge
    The Monotype Challenge
    The Monotype Challenge

Things done as part of this warpath/rampage:
    Spoiler:

I'm not going to have that much commentary with the gym leader battles since most of them were won out of sheer merit of overleveled pokemon in our part. Mainly just abused secondary weaknesses that made some of their supposedly grass-resistant signature pokemon take good amounts of neutral damage (Jasmine's Steelix, ALL of Pryce's Pokemon, Clair's Kingdra)

Rival battle with SOICHIRO at Goldenrod Tunnel:
    Spoiler:

With Victory Road, and the Gen 2 Elite Four upon us, we take a break from our Leafy Rampage. Of course, Crystal (as are Gold and Silver) being short on the core-game in all, is not the longest or most grind insisting games in the pokemon franchise.

  • @Bugbuzz

I must know how are you beating Rival's Charizard. I've been following your updates on your bug run and I remember having so much trouble against him during my Grass monotype run in Kanto. And dat Parasect with the best nature : ))))

VS Soichiro at Victory Road. And as a bonus, because of my complete carelessness during our travel to Indigo Plateau for the all important fly point, most of our party aside from our starter Cheleene were wounded or fainted. So it was a 2v6! (lvl48 Meganium and a heavily wounded MOOPZ (Weepinbell) vs Rival's party of 6)

An exeggcute sleeping on that very tree! Finally we bolster our ranks with a really strong addition to the team! A definite sub-psychic type to take care of the poison and fighting types we'll be facing much later.

Also, a Paras found after a little back trekking at Ilex Forest.

    @Bugbuzz
I must know how are you beating Rival's Charizard. I've been following your updates on your bug run and I remember having so much trouble against him during my Grass monotype run in Kanto. And dat Parasect with the best nature : ))))
Yeah I really lucked out with that nature :) I'm actually planning to train my team to around level 60 (also because the Rival's Charizard will be at level 63 I think) and I really need those levels. Though my Parasect has that awesome nature and Dig, I don't really think he can survive a Flamethrower, so I'm kinda hoping my Scyther can set up some Swords Dances on the Pokes he sends out before Charizard (if he doesn't send it out immediately after the first one) and then I'm hoping Scyther's Slash or Wing Attack will faint it in one hit (or maybe get some crit luck while I'm at it). I'm realising that turns the final battle into a one-Pokémon's-show, but Parasect really is to frail (plus Bug and Grass typing) to take a hit. I kinda regret my choice to pick Bulbasaur at the start, but I always pick the starter (even whilst doing solo runs) that I'll have the most difficulty with (you have to admit Blastoise wouldn't be any challenge with those Giga Drains :) )
Thanks for the interest btw, your Grass run seems to be going great and you're not the only one who forgets to use TMs or when exactly rival battles are (though the more you do challenges the better you get at remembering, I think I can almost play Fire Red and Leaf Green completely blind, I played through them well over 20 times now :) )
