"lol" followed by further condescending comment.
Just sad and weak and it's just seen everywhere online. To be honest it makes the person who does it look more like a sociopath than the person they claiming to be socially inept or over emotional. *shrugs*

Not a personal experience, or related to anything, but I just see it so often that it's just led me to obtain an observational view of it.

  • :( lol has become one of my bad habits online. I've tried to replace it with "haha" but it's not much better.

When I was trying to get over my weeaboo-smilies-everywhere phase, I turned to "lol" to get across that what I was saying was meant to be light and not super srs but then I gave up on giving up smilies and now I use both and it's horrible.

  • I'm like Erica. I used to use a lot of smilies, now I don't use them as much. Though I tend to swap lol and haha quite often. I try to keep lol out of serious conversations of course.

I understand saying to display that you find something funny. But I mean when people say it to purposefully discount what someone is saying.

You see it often? I see no reason why someone would discount your words.

As I say, not a personal response, I just see people doing it to others. Guess it's happened to me a few times but I know that there's no point in discussing with someone who does that.

  • I use lol at work or when I actually laugh out loud because half the people at work won't understand ":33" or ".O." or "@_@" or "*_*" haha..

: | But when I don't use smilies I come across so seriously >_>.. argh.
