  • Picking 15 albums is hard. I'm sure a week ago I'd choose different albums and a week from now I'll look at this and wonder why I chose the ones I did.

    Imogen Heap - Ellipse (2009)
    > She has a beautiful voice, makes wonderful music, and writes some of the most creative and touching lyrics I've ever heard. Her album before this was amazing and this is even better in ways I didn't think were possible.
    Sakanaction - Shinshiro (2009)
    > Electro rock music with a touch of funky and a two handfuls of creative awesomeness. I'd more or less given up on a lot of Japanese music (which is 90% interchangeable pop/rock/hiphop) until I saw this band live. I was hooked before the first song even ended and I must have played this album a dozen times in a row.
Bat For Lashes - Two Suns (2009)
    > Most albums have one or two songs I don't care for, but on this I like all the songs, or I like how they fit together, or maybe I just like the style and sound of it all.
    Sakamoto Maaya - Kazeyomi (2009)
    > She's an artist I've been following for years. She started out as a voice actor who just did insert and theme songs, but step by step she's come into her own, writing her own songs and developing her own voice. This is her latest and strongest album.
    Ludovico Einaudi - Divenire (2007)
    > A recent addition to my collection, but a good one. It's classical, piano with an orchestra, and it makes me feel like I'm flying.
    Daft Punk - Alive 2007 (2007)
    > Their best songs mixed live. Great for loosing yourself in when you're doing something boring.
    Sigur Rós - Takk... (2005)
    > Some people think this album is a bit over the top, but it's my favorite of theirs. It makes me feel like I'm in a movie. It takes my breath away.
Do As Infinity - Deep Forest (2001)
    > A lot of my favorite albums are the ones that introduced me to artists and this is one. It was one of the first Japanese bands I could recognize. I loved how catchy their songs were. I watched their concert DVD that followed the release of this album and it was so full of fun! yeah! energy! that I knew I had to see them live one day so I could hear some of these songs in person... and I did!
Loreena McKennitt - Live in Paris and Toronto (1999)
    > I love me some dreamy, otherworldly, folksy music, she's the best and she's even better live so this is the album for me. It doesn't hurt that it's two discs and has all my favorite songs by her.
    Björk - Post (1995)
    > This one beats out Homogenic because I heard it first and fell in love with Hyper-Ballad. It's the kind of music that makes me go "wow".
Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes (1992)
    > Her first real album and I think her best. The songs are all so raw and powerful like so many artists can only dream of.
    The Cure - Disintegration (1989)
    > Lullaby, Lovesong, Fascination Street. This is how I bring out my inner goth when I want to be alone and rock out in my room.
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love (1985)
    > One of those great albums with a story like a thread running through it. There is so much layered into the lyrics and music, so much you can take away from it.
David Bowie - Hunky Dory (1971)
    > It's hard to pick just one Bowie album. Low, Ziggy Stardust, and Station to Station are all superb albums, but Hunky Dory was one of the first albums that really "spoke" to me.
    The Who - Who's Next (1971)
    > The album that has Baba O'Riley and Behind Blue Eyes on it. This is rock gold.
