This is basically an adaption of a thread I found at Serebii.

As it was mentioned pretty well over there; originally legendary Pokemon were considered rare and mythical to some extent. Their sightings were limited and only a few lucky ones got the chance to spot them. But now, they can be spotted occasionally in the Anime, and also, more and more trainers seem to be having legendary Pokemon in their teams as well.

What is your stance on the matter? Should the writers allow trainers to own legendary Pokemon? Or should they make lesser appearances and have a mystery about them?

And, do you want Ash to own legendary Pokemon as well?

As for me, I don't really mind trainers having legendary Pokemon in their team. Also, the number of legendaries has increased drastically from Kanto to Isshu, hence I feel that they have lost the mysteries surrounding them. When the number of legendary Pokemon was less, the excitement surrounding them was pretty high.

I don't really mind this. I mean It happens in really life with our games you just have to learn to beat them and ash will too. Also yeah I agree the mystery is pretty much gone. Back in the days of r/b/y, I always thought there was only one of each legendary pokemon. Guess I was wrong.

I could actually see Ash with a legendary. It would have to be something small and essentially a really rare Pokemon like Shaymin or Phione. If Ash did get a legendary it would probably be to escort it somewhere like in the Larvitar arc.

I think they should have one.....as long as they're not the main plotline ones like the region's base 600+ trio and bird/dog-equivalent trio.....just outcasts like Heatran, Darkrai etc.

I kinda want Ash to get a Genesect :P

However, that's not going to happen.......so yeah, Victini would be epic!

What makes me wonder is how the trainers got their hands on legendary Pokemon in the first place. I can understand how Brandon and Noland got theirs, but I don't get how Takuto got Darkrai and Latios.

I can mind if a few trainers had legends on their team, and it made sense. Brandon, I can understand, since... its Brandon. Its just that Takuto just bugged me, he has two legends, Latios and Darkrai, and it was never explained how he obtained them. I can't stand that.

I wouldn't mind if Ash obtains a legendary, but it would have to be small. Like Mew size.

    why not

There's a reason why most trainers (and "collectors") do not have legendaries in the anime. Case in point-the events in Pokémon the Movie 2000.

I have no problem with trainers having legendaries... but Ash should never have one or he'd overuse it. Either that or he'd never use it and people will complain

It's a different story for me on either Anime or Games.

For the Anime, I simply can't even think correctly about trainers owning a legendary. That's because it's always been so emphasized there on how legendaries are supposed guardians, protectors, and gods and all the other good stuff. Games are really "Gotta Catch then all", and well, even though the status of legendaries in games is mentioned, it's actually OK for you to catch them. That's just... unfitting in the anime.

I think in the game, whatever, but in the anime, no. I don't think Ash should have a legendary. They are treated as mythical figures, and like Gods. For someone to own one...it would be weird. They are almost meant to be untouched.

In the anime, no. It's called a legendary for a reason- it's legendary. The Pokemon in question would probably be banned from battles due to it's strength.

In the game, it's fine. As you take control, you make the decisions. If you want to catch and use it, that's your call. If I fought a trainer who had a legendary, then that would probably be really weird.

Remember, Ash was supposed to get Celebi from the GS Ball before movie 4 screwed that all up.
I don't think Ash was supposed to have that Celebi in his team. Celebi was just intended to be the star of a large arc of the Jhoto saga.

The only thing I mind is there not being an explanation on how they got their legendary.

Takuto having a Darkrai and Latios didn't bother me, it was the fact that there was no back story on how he got them. Every other trainer in the anime that had access to a legendary had a reason, except for Takuto. Since these are considered ultra rare and super powerful Pokemon in the anime, then a trainer that has command over one should have a story on how they were obtained and not just be casually waiting in line with one like the guy with the Heatran.

They don't need to explain how they got them, and there's nothing wrong with trainers using them. Ever since Hoenn there have been more and more legendaries that are essentially nothing more than just really rare Pokemon. Legendaries are hardly as important anymore, this is becoming more and more evident in the anime. I personally don't think it matters as long as we don't see a little girl playing with her Dialga on the side of the road.

Look, Bug Catchers have legendaries now!

Lol....yeah...I think it's ok that his Heatran's never explained as I'm pretty sure it never appears in a battle with Ash or another main character.....and after all, Team Rocket nearly beat up a Heatran...so it can't be that brilliant in the animeverse...just rare.....

But Takuto's Darkrai and Latios....c'mon! Nobody's ever cleaned out Ash like that! (even Paul couldn't do that...), and especially as they're legendaries, we need to know how he got them....unless he was one step behind those guys....capturing Darkrai after they were in Canalave City, then hunting down Latios and abusing Darkrai's type advantage......

I agree, honestly I think the league should have had some sort of Uber rule or something? xD

The way I think of it is that if a trainer is skillfull enough to track, capture, control, and train a legendary, they deserve to use it for all their hard work.
Well that is what I said in my first post, but it still isn't fair. Plus, nearly every person who buys the games is skilled enough to catch ledgenderies, but we still can't use them in places like the battle frontier... just isn't. Anyway, we don't even know how Takuto got those pokémon.
