What makes me wonder is how the trainers got their hands on legendary Pokemon in the first place. I can understand how Brandon and Noland got theirs, but I don't get how Takuto got Darkrai and Latios.

Takuto forgot to leave his Action Replay at home.

As for my opinion. Antagonists I find, can have them, depends on how bad they are, Galactic, Magma and Aqua were fine. But Rocket just :|

Wasn't there a person in the league who was shown with a Heatran >_> or was that the Grand Festival D:

Ash shouldn't own one ever! Unless it's an escorting mission.

As long as it isn't one of the "One of a kind" legendaries, it's fine.

Afterall, most ''legendaries'' are actually just super-rare pokemon, and NOT one-of-a-kind. So, it's fine.

As long as no one owns a Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Arceus, Mewtwo (besides TR), Kyogre, Groudon, or Rayquaza, it's fine. All the others, as far as we know, are species with more then one of their kind, and therefore are just SUPER rare.

It's fine, and infact, I like that stance on it, since it shows that there's not just one of these pokemon, as it wouldn't make sense, unless they are in-fact ''gods'' ie Arceus, Palkia, and Dialga.

They don't need to explain how they got them, and there's nothing wrong with trainers using them. Ever since Hoenn there have been more and more legendaries that are essentially nothing more than just really rare Pokemon. Legendaries are hardly as important anymore, this is becoming more and more evident in the anime. I personally don't think it matters as long as we don't see a little girl playing with her Dialga on the side of the road.

Look, Bug Catchers have legendaries now.

    Trainers with legendaries- Your stance?

That's exactly the guy I was talking about.

It's true that it's not a necessity for them to explain how they got their legends, but despite the fact that they've gone down in value since Kanto, they're still legends and are rarer and stronger than the average Pokemon. I just feel like it would be better if they explained how they got them so that we could get a better understanding of the trainer and the legendary Pokemon.

Well that is what I said in my first post, but it still isn't fair. Plus, nearly every person who buys the games is skilled enough to catch ledgenderies, but we still can't use them in places like the battle frontier... just isn't. Anyway, we don't even know how Takuto got those pokémon.
This is a completely different matter if you ask me. Catching legendaries in the games takes zero skill, I don't think that's a good comparison. Besides, you can use Latios, Heatran, Articuno, the Regis, etc. anyways.

I'd love it if Team Rocket were to get a legendary though... Not Jessie and James but the stronger people. That way, they'd be so much beastlier

I agree, honestly I think the league should have had some sort of Uber rule or something? xD
I would agree with you. The reason legendary Pokemon should not be allowed to be used is to ensure a level playing field.
The battle between Takuto and Ash seemed so unfair to me.

Who cares about a level playing field? It would be unfair to the trainers with legendary Pokémon if they were not allowed to use them. Why punish them just because other trainers don't have enough skill to catch other legendary Pokémon? Because it's unfair to other trainers? Tough **** for them. Let them have more skill.

Isn't it possible that a trainer just befriended a legendary Pokemon who agreed to travel with him/her?

We weren't shown how Takuto acquired Darkrai and Latios anyway.

What does that change? I guess they would be able to use it since Ash used Haunter against Sabrina.

So? We're not shown how most trainers get any of their Pokémon.

Well, does it require skill to befriend a legendary Pokemon?
And Haunter isn't a legendary Pokemon.

    Legendary Pokemon are special.
We ought to know how a trainer obtained it to judge whether it required some sort of skill or not.

Ordinary trainers can have legendary, of course. However, it should be, if tiered, should only be in the OU-NU tiers. No Ubers please, cause we can't stand a freakin' Arceus. Heatran, Darkrai, and Lati@s are exceptions, since they are, as one post a few posts before me said, outcasts. Here is a list wom I should think trainers are allowed to have

    Kanto:
    None

    Johto:
    Celebi (?)

    Hoenn:
    Jirachi
    Deoxys
    Regi-bros
    Lati@s

    Sinnoh:
    Heatran
    Drakrai
    Cresselia

    Unova:
Keludio (the blue horse thingy, trio master)
    Genesect
    Victini

Are you implying that Takuto simply befriended Darkrai and Latios?

Anyway, no it probably doesn't require any skill. That doesn't change the fact that if the other trainers aren't skilled enough to defeat them then they don't deserve to win.

And Haunter isn't a legendary Pokemon.

I was using it as an example of a Pokémon that was used in an official match that was simply befriended.

    Legendary Pokemon are special.
We ought to know how a trainer obtained it to judge whether it required some sort of skill or not.

They're clearly not special if they're being owned by trainers who don't get a single mention or another appearance in the league.

    Quite true.

They are special in the sense that they are clearly stronger than the normal Pokemon. (Better stats) Of course we have a few exceptions. Pikachu and Charizard for example, who have defeated legendary Pokemon before.

They are still Pokémon though. And as you said they have been beaten before by regular Pokémon. With that, why is there a problem again?

Yes they did. What does that have to do with anything? Did Ash battle Squirtle to capture it inside its Pokeball? If no, why can't Takuto also do the same?

Do you have any proof that he befriended Darkrai and Latios? If not then why are you acting as though he did? Do you think that most trainers befriend their Pokémon or battle to catch them? Also, Noland befriended Articuno but did Articuno have a Poké Ball? No. Why would it be any different here if Darkrai and Latios were simply befriended?

There is no proof that he battled to catch them either.
If not then why are you acting as though he did?
    I am considering all options.
Do you think that most trainers befriend their Pokémon or battle to catch them?
    Both are equally possible.
Also, Noland befriended Articuno but did Articuno have a Poké Ball? No. Why would it be any different here if Darkrai and Latios were simply befriended?
    Exceptions are always present.

The fact that he didn't seem worried or compassionate when Darkrai was defeated and the fact the he was able to control and effectively defeat some Ash's more experienced Pokémon says he has enough skill to battle them.

    I am considering all options.

    Both are equally possible.

So you've given up on your position?

    Exceptions are always present.

Except there's nothing suggesting that this is an exception.

There is absolutely no reason why one should panic when he has five other Pokemon left in his party. If Takuto using his Darkrai defeated all the gym leaders of Sinnoh with ease, it proves that Darkrai is pretty experienced as well.

So you've given up on your position?

Huh? What? From my first post itself I stated that it was a possibility.

Except there's nothing suggesting that this is an exception.

Why? Haven't there been cases before when Pokemon who were befriended traveled along with the trainer (in a Pokeball)?
