Name: Cassidy "Cass" Hawthorne
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Appearance: Standing at a height of 5' 10" and weighing in at 155 pounds, with handsome, chiseled features with a somewhat boyish face, pretty eyes and stylish tousled, dark brown hair, Cass is a very handsome young man. The warmth in his eyes and the thoughtful expression his face takes on a lot of times also shows kindness and depth that made him so attractive to the ladies (and secretly, some of the men too).
Attire: Opting for a fairly casual and laidback sense of style, Cass likes to wear a hoodie, a t shirt, jeans and sneakers on an everyday basis, sometimes mixing up with shades on a sunny day or a pastel green tracksuit if the weather is a little chillier or a cardigan and jeans. Not feeling the need for overly flashy or gaudy clothes, the simplicity of his clothes allow his appearance and demeanor to speak for itself.
Personality: Having a seemingly meek and subdued presence with a propensity to change on a turn of a dime to passionate and energetic, the ambivalent teenager possesses an air that shows both passion and kindness. A young man very much in touch with others' feelings, Cass is quite empathetic for the concerns of others, being able to put himself at the forefront of people's triumphs, failures, issues and whatnot, offering a warm smile, time and a jovial, suave demeanor. On the emotional convictions of others, he can get worked up and stubbornly pursue an end to it, be it helping person along, standing up for someone's sake or otherwise genuinely showing concern and care for those around them.
Despite his own openness and willingness to help someone out with their problems or just be there to celebrate good times, he is much less sure on himself. Unwilling to really delve that much into himself and insecurities deal not knowing who his mother is for all this time, feelings about men in a society that shames those sort of thoughts and homesickness of his old life in Portland. He tries to wave it off in his usual suave demeanor, insisting he's fine and gives a superficial glance of his own feelings and situations to others. Why is he so mum about his own problems? Through the way he was able to carry himself through life, successful, popular, he feels it's beneath him to feel inadequate when his life was considered really good. His lonely home life made it so that he desired friends and connections above all else. His tendency to bottle things up like that can make him moody in certain circumstances, dropping his otherwise suave and amiable personality for a more dour demeanor.
Abilities:
Amokinesis-Using powers endowed by his mother, Cass is able to manipulate the emotions of love, desire and related emotions such as passion that ranges from the subtle thoughts of love or passion that sway decisions to more overt applications of feelings of romance directed at others.
Charmspeak-By speaking with the imbued powers of Aphrodite, Cass can speak and get people to do things that he desires. A dormant ability of his, the application of it, even unintentionally, has been sparse, usually only showing up in times of anger or other strong emotions.
Empathetic Intuition-Possessing an extraordinarily keen sense of empathy, Cass can gauge emotional matters and be able to draw upon experience and natural instinct enhanced by his mother's powers to determine what that might entail.
Fashion Manipulation-Much like other children of Aphrodite, he can change the type of clothes, jewelry and other articles of fashion that he wears, as well as changing the clothing sizes for the most comfortable fit.
French Fluency-As the language of love, children of Aphrodite know French. Cass is no exception.
Godly Parent: Aphrodite, Goddess of Love
History: Born on August 15, 1962 in Portland, Oregon to florist Lucian Hawthorne, Cass grew up an only child with his father. From a young age, he was always interested in the flowers his father would arrange at his shop in downtown Portland. Good-naturedly asserting that even though it was a bit cliche, Lucian insisted that roses were his favorite flower, especially in light of Cass' mother. The thoughts of flowers made him simultaneously happy and wistful, wishing his mother could be there with him. From what his father told him about her, she seemed like a gorgeous and loving woman. Not much else was said about her, despite the pressing questions and the pangs of jealousy at the fact that all his friends had a mother but him.
Given the taxing task of the floral shop, much of the rearing of Cass was done with help of babysitters. Despite the boy's interest in flowers and liking to help his father wherever he could, there was only so much affection that Lucian could give Cass, being preoccupied with managing his business. Nonetheless, life was fairly good with a stable middle class income and friends at school and elsewhere.
Even with a fairly uneventful and normal life, weird things occurred that defied explanation starting at the age of 10. Unexplainable phenomena like monsters that would attack out of nowhere, harassing him while off for a quick walk for supplies scattered throughout his childhood or strange figures or apparitions that he'd see on his way to school. His father, who knew more or less the true nature of what his son was seeing, seemed to be able to explain away the attacks as one thing or another, wanting to protect him from the true nature of his heritage and the world he shared with them. The attacks, however, only ramped up in intensity the older he grew, not lessen. There was apparently an an abundance of "muggers", "stray dogs" and "aggressive birds".
On one summer day, things took a pretty freakish turn. Going for a morning jog along an esplanade on the Willamette River, everything was quite routine, waving to strangers and enjoying the beautiful weather when he tripped on the pavement, and fell into the river. Unbeknownst to him, he had disturbed an ophiotaurus that resided in the river, which panicked and attacked him, threatening to drown him. Just before it appears it'd be it for Cass, the ophiotaurus let up and he blacked out, coming to on dry land with a hoard of swans pecking at him. Bizarrely enough, he could understand them, and they appeared to be honking at him to get the hell away from their river.
After that incident, Mr. Hawthorne received a letter for the Three Fates School for Troubled Youth. Understanding the true nature of the school as protective of demigods, he sat Cass aside to explain that he would be safer at this new school after a few more bad incidents that occurred at his school (which blamed it on "hoodlums" despite Cass seeing that his perpetrators were decidedly not human, let alone a hoodlum). Lucian stressed that the arrangements would be "temporary", until it's decided it would be safe for him. Plus, Cass would be at the top of his class and a well-behaved student.
