Ulimate Monotype Challenge

Hello everyone,

I am going to take on the Ultimate Monotype Challenge.

I will be using Fire-type Pokemon in all games.

Order of Games - System
Pokemon Red - emulator
Pokemon SoulSilver - DS
Pokemon Sapphire - emulator
Pokemon Platinum - DS
Pokemon Black - DS

The following fire-type Pokemon are available in Red (without trading):
Charmander -- 16 --> Charmeleon -- 36 --> Charizard
Growlithe -- Fire Stone --> Arcanine
Ponyta -- 40 --> Rapidash
Eevee -- Fire Stone --> Flareon

I will be try to make frequent updates after each gym is finished.

Got my first badge with just a Lvl.14 Charmander :)

Late Update: 3 badges thusfar, had to catch 10 pokemon to try to acquire the flash hm to get through rock tunnel, so i had to backtrack and catch weak pokemon, since my Charizard would one-hit KO all pokemon :( So now im going through Rock Tunnel with just Charizard level 45 in 5.5 hours game time

It's been six weeks since my last update... Here is a quick runthrough of what's happened on my SoulSilver Ground Type Challenge:

- Progressed to Ecruteak City, defeated Morty.
- Geodude evolved into Graveler en route to Olivine, quickly traded with a friend to evolve it; Sandshrew also evolved
- Headed to Olivine, did the whole "get Amphy medicine" quest
- Beat Chuck with the combination of Quagsire and Nidorino
- Went back to Olivine City and destroyed Jasmine with Golem and Quagsire
- Headed to Mahogany Town, defeated the Rocket Hideout
- Beat Pryce with Nidorino and Quagsire
- Headed back to Goldenrod to deal with some pesky Rockets
- Caught Swinub in the Ice Path, grinded it to Piloswine
- Beat Clair with a combination of Piloswine, Nidorino, and Golem
- Cleared the rest of Johto, and the entire road to the Elite Four
- Went back around Johto, gathering misc items (including a heart scale!!) and teaching moves
- Taught Ancientpower to Piloswine, evolved it into Mamoswine; also evolved Nidorino to Nidoking

Then... The Elite Four!!

Will: Not too much of a challenge. Quagsire proved useful due to Ice Beam, and Mamoswine's Avalanche was quite useful too.

Koga: Nidoking = Flamethrower and Thunderbolt! Pretty much decimated Koga's entire team, though Golem pitched in for Muk, and Onix even got some action against Venomoth.

Bruno: I predicted that Hitmontop would use Dig if faced with a Rock-type, and I was right. Golem killed it in one hit. Quagsire took on Onix easily, and Nidoking was great with Poison Jab on Hitmonlee and Machamp. Quagsire was able to finish off Hitmonchan after Nidoking fell.

Karen: Surprisingly easy. Sandslash used Swords Dance three times (Umbreon Double Teamed 3x), and got lucky by getting in an Earthquake on the first shot. Earthquake then destroyed Vileplume and Houndoom, Shadow Claw killed Gengar, and Crush Claw finished off Murkrow.

Lance: Super difficult. Nidoking's Thunderbolt couldn't kill Gyarados in one hit, so even with a Quick Claw, it got wrecked by Waterfall. Eventually, I just kept shifting between Nidoking and Quagsire - Gyarados would use Flail when Quagsire was out (so I switched to Nidoking and eventually poisoned it), and Waterfall when Nidoking was out (to be absorbed by Quagsire). Mamoswine and Quagsire handled the Dragonites pretty well; Onix and Golem teamed up for Charizard; and Aerodactyl ultimately went down to Sandslash.

On to Kanto! I really need Steelix, since Onix is basically worthless...

I just started my Johto run for my ice type challenge a couple days ago and I've made it pretty far so far. :) I forgot to take a lot of pictures in the beginning but I changed that by the end of the update.

Update:

I started off by picking Totodile to be my first
slave, played the game to before the first gym
and hacked in a Wild Swinub.

I saved the Slowpokes while Kurt just laid on his
back the whole time. Then I went and kicked Som
Gai's ass to get stronger for Bugsy.

I got the Squirtbottle after beating Whitney and
used it to get rid of Sudowoodo. Kicked Som Gai's
ass again to do some training for Morty, which seemed
to pay off cause Swinub evolved to Piloswine! :)

After beating Chuck I surfed back to Olivine and gave
Jasmine the medicine for Amphy. Then I went to catch a
Shellder, which would become the second member of my
team :)

So I desided to help Lance after defeating the red
Gyarados, I defeated 2 Rocket Executives and Lance
called me a hero! Made me so happy :)

Zantetsu122's Water UMC Challenge Update # 3.
~ What did Zantetsu did after beating Lt. Surge? ~
As soon as team Zantetsu defeated Lt. Surge, he catches 10 Pokemon just to get Flash for Rock Tunnel. As he was on his Side – Mission, he catches his new team Member, Samountha the Wingull. He now talks with the retarded Aide, asking for 10 Pokemon caught. He gets HM05, Flash. He now teaches Flash to HmJask the Ninjask.


~ May? ~
As he was trekking through the path to Rock Tunnel, he encounters his foreign Rival, May. They fought well. Both trainers are strong, but Zantetsu wins, defeating her Flareon with Wingull. The team treks through the trainer filled path and Wingull evolves to Pelipper. He founds TM 40, Aerial Ace, but does not teach it to Pelipper. "The trainers are tough!" He says. But with his team's teamwork and coordination, he successfully defeats the trainers in his path.



~ Rock Tunnel ~
He takes a break at the Pokemon Center. As soon as he and his team are ready, they enter the Rock Tunnel, paradise for his Water Type team. "Oh crap, it's dark!!! HmJask, use Flash to guide us!" he screams in terror. "Good thing I'm not playing R/B/Y. The Rock Tunnel there is terrifying!!!" he exclaims. They pass through the trainers , his Staryu almost fainted because of a Slowbro, but his strong Blastoise backs it up. They safely leave Rock Tunnel without anyone fainting in his team.


~ Lavender Town, Celadon City, Starmie, and gambling. ~
Zantetsu is now at Lavender. Getting some RnR because the Tunnel was annoying for him. He caught his attention at the Name Rater. He nicknames his Pokemon.
• Gyarados to Wiggles
• Blastoise to Pebbles
• Pelipper to Samountha
• Staryu to Patrick

~ Lavender Town, Celadon City, Starmie, and gambling. Part 2.~

He now evades the trainers so he can go to Celadon; he has heard that Elemental Stones can be bought in the Dept. Store. "What's this? It's a gambling place!? Oh wait, I don't have one of those Coin Cases" he being surprised as he saw the Casino. "Hey kid" the drunk man calls Zantetsu. "Have this Coin Case. I'm broke, no cash, no anything" as he was telling him whilst crying." Dude, it's okay. Just get a job so you can make up for your lost cash" he tells him. "Thanks kid. Most people just ignore me, but you, you took your time talking to a drunkard like me. Here, take this Coin Case" Zantetsu leaves as soon the man passes out. He now goes to the store to buy Super Potions, Hyper Beam, Revives, and a Water Stone for Staryu. He now takes his time to get 2 copies of Ice Beam, 2 Thunderbolts, 1 Flamethrower, and he accidentally buys Iron Tail. He now teaches his hard earned moves to his Pokemon. He talks to the granny to get Tea; gave to the guards. He talks to a weird guy. Being given a Psychic TM, he teaches it to Starmie.


He proceeds to the Celadon Gym. He is greeted with a Double Battle with Erika. He leads with Patrick and Wiggles. Patrick did a lot. Using Psychic and Ice beam to ward them off. Unlike before, Starmie couldn't defeat its enemies. But because of Zantetsu's gambling, he made Starmie powerful. The match ends with Starmie vs Victreebel. Now he goes to the Casino again, but not to gamble, but to pwn Rockets.

~ Team Rocket, 2 Snorlax, 1 Flute! ~
Zantetsu now enters the Casino again. He saw one of the Rockets near a poster. He talks to him and is revealed a secret button to the Rockets. Zantetsu beats the weak Rocket and leaves the button unattended. He presses it and proceeds downstairs. He is greeted by weak Rockets, and Giovanni, which was also weak like his lackeys. Zantetsu leaves the base unharmed and all. He then goes to Lavender Tower to get the Poke Flute. He encounters his Rival, Blue. They fight as they saw each other. Zantetsu wins again against his Rival. He then goes to the spooky place filled with possessed people and ghost. He finds a spot that repels ghosts, and heals Pokemon. After he steps into the magic circle, he continues his journey for the Flute. He encounters a dead Marowak, that Marowak is the mother of the Cubone in the house of Mr. Fuji. He ran away because it's not worth it fighting a dead spirit. He saw another batch of Rockets, but he pwns them easily, like he did to those Rockets in the Casino. He receives the Flute. He flies back to Vermilion, to wake up the Snorlax. He runs away because he only wanted to catch Water Types. He received the Super Rod, which he caught his new member, Squishy the Horsea. He trains it for 2 hours and it gained 21 Levels. It's Level 42 now. He then goes to the Casino to get another Ice Beam for Seadra. He wakes up the Snorlax just between Fuchsia and Celadon. He cycles through the Cycling Road, avoiding the rowdy bikers. He arrives at Fuchsia to get Surf and Strength. He teaches Surf to his Water Types, besides Gyarados, which has Hydro Pump. He then takes his HMNidoqueen and teaches Cut and Strength, replacing HmJask.

So awhile ago (read: over six months ago) I posted about doing a Ultimate with the Grass type that I started. Well, despite making little progress, I have been working on it. Slowly, but surely.

Starting up an Ultimate Monotype Challenge, how exciting! I will progress through Pokémon Blue with my favourite type: Ground.

At the moment I'm just grinding the two Pokémon I ditched my starter for.

Duke is a Nidoran (m) and Duchess is a Nidoran (f). They will do me well and I have faith in them. Soon they will face Brock to test their strength. Soon.

Alright, so apparently Spring Break is a great time to play lots of Pokemon... Update for what I've done this week on the Ultimate Ground Challenge on SoulSilver!

When I last left off, I had just conquered the Elite Four.
- Went to Olivine City and cleared the ship
- Got the Metal Coat, traded with a friend to obtain Steelix. Sweet! It's not useless anymore!
- Fought Lt. Surge. Mamoswine + Earthquake = pwnage.
- Went to Saffron, beat Sabrina. Steelix rocked it here, especially since it learned Crunch mid-battle.
- Traveled to Celadon. The combo of Mamoswine (Ice Moves) and Nidoking (Flamethrower/Poison Jab) took down Erika with relative ease.
- Completed the Power Plant quest
- Fought Misty. This battle was hard, which isn't surprising since I'm using ground types. Mamoswine and Sandslash combined to take down Golduck and Quagsire, while Lapras didn't go down to Nidoking or Steelix. Golem finished Lapras off, leaving Quagsire to Starmie. Quagsire held on after a Psychic with 5 HP, and scored a critical hit with Earthquake to win the battle.
- Traveled to Fuschia via Cycling Road
- Beat Janine with Steelix and Golem. I also realized how frustrating Stone Edge's accuracy can be...
- Fought and captured Snorlax and quickly traversed Diglett's Cave.
- Went to Pewter and fought Brock. Sandslash + Swords Dance x3 = pwnage.
- Cleared Mt. Moon and then headed for Cinnabar, clearing all the trainers out in the water routes.
- Fought Blaine - Golem, Nidoking, and Quagsire got the job done with relative ease.

Now, my pokemon are all level 56-57. Before fighting Blue, I am going to grind with the lower-leveled Elite Four. Then I'll fight him and use the Unknown Dungeon/Mt. Silver to train, finally fighting the Elite Four, and hopefully Red soon enough!

Ok heres my update for the monotype challenge ive got a lot more done

-First trained my team to level 30
-Got the medicine then sweeped Chucks gym with only Syrup lol
-Gave the medicine to Jasmine then went on a little detour got a Magikarp evolved it grinded it to the 30s
-Went to her gym and as i expected that at least one of her pokemon was gonna be magnemite thankfully Whirl 100% knew mud shot
-Then beat the cr@p out of the rage gyrados with mine, sweeped all the team rocket scum in the base only with gyrados basically
-Beat Pryces gym which took forever because of all the trainers using seel and spamming rest
-Took another detour got a Horsea named him Bazooka and now grindin him to 30s

I will be continuing my, in relation to myhhr's one, extremely slow all monotypes run. I will not be able to do any 5. gen before B2/W2 come out though, because i dont want to delete all my rare event pokemon on White.

This is Dragon Monotype on Leaf green!

Grinded for the first and until the E4 last time

Well, i've been playing for a few weeks now actually, and the reason i havent updated is because it took me such a long time to beat eterna and i couldnt access my computer. but, without further ado, my next dark UMC update!

Spoiler:

after i got tyranny to an appropriate level, i traveled to oreburgh and challenged the leader. I beat him extremely easily, thanks to my cheap moveset from hatching(whoops again).

I continue on my way when i find dawn and rowan being harassed by team galactic and destroyed them(along with dawn) extremely easily. After that i kept to myself until i made it to valley windworks. I took my time and saved the man and kept going to eterna forest. I found whats-her-face and we traveled and trained until i was about level 20 some. like i said before, it took me a long time to beat the eterna gym. I had to get Tyranny to level 35, evolving him and beating the leader by luck.

I taught turtwig cut and i went to the galactic base. I beat them all really quick and saved the bike shop owner, then he gave me a bike for cycle road. I zoomed through that and i ran into dawn again. i got my vs seeker and continued through the mountain. I made it the next town and challenged the leader right away. i destroyed her, thanks to dark pulse.

I hurried to the next town, not worrying about anything and i entered the ruins right away. i got defog and left for veilstone. i made it there quickly and i beat maylene without any trouble. After defeating her, i saved dawns pokedex and caught my second member (finally), Cindy the houndour. And i grinded for a little and she evolved. thats as far as i chose to go.

Last Time:
-Making my way through the Rock Tunnel.

On this episode of Grass UMC:

Spoiler:

-Made my way to Celadon City
-Took on Erika and won,
-Cleared the Game corner of Rockets.
-Cleared out the Pokemon Tower
-Woke up Snorlax and made my way to Fuchsia City.
-Caught Clio the Exeggcute
-Trained Clio for the longest time.
-Clio evolved.
-Then, Sadie evolved.
-Took on Koga and won easily.
-Cleared out Silph Co.
-Took on Rival and won by the skin of my teeth. (His exeggcute took out Sadie and his Charizard took out Clio. Charizard vs. Carter. Carter showed him who's boss.)
-Easily defeated Giovanni after healing up and saved the day.
-Took on Sabrina and won.
Carter easily took out Kadabra and Mr. Mime with Return, but then was killed up one Psychic from Alakazam. With Clio's resistance to Psychic, she easily took him and her Venomoth down.
-Looking at the next gym, I think I'm going to try and fight everyone I haven't fought already and gain a few more levels. Simply because a fire type gym concerns me.

hey guys, i was wondering if i could start a monotype challenge on Diamond. Problem is i want to do a Ghost type challenge, i dont have another ds to trade early on. Any way i can still do this challenge? Dont really want to do it on an emulator, since i want to keep the pokemon.

You can catch your first Ghost Type after your first badge, and that's Drifloon, which you can catch during Fridays . Then after your 2nd Badge, you can get your 2nd pokemon, Gastly in the Old Chateau. I think that's all the Ghost types you can get in Diamond.

Mismagius is only in Pearl.

Diamond has four Ghosts: Drifblim, Gengar, Spiritomb (which is easily obtainable on a cartridge I think), and Froslass - more than enough for a good team imo. And yeah, you can't hack/trade in anyone for a ghost monotype since Drifblim is available early enough.

UMC Grass: Kanto: Champions

Last Time, we saved Saffron, defeated Sabrina, and caught and raised our third team member!

This time on Kanto: Grass Edition:

We made our way from Saffron to Fuchsia, taking the eastern route to train our team. Then we made our way to Cinnabar Island where, after we searched the Pokemon Mansion, we took on the Cinnabar Gym. Despite having a strong weakness to fire, we defeated Blaine, the gym leader, easily. It just took a Psychic attack to each Pokemon.
After getting the Volcano Badge, we literally ran into our friend Bill outside the gym! He asked us if we wanted to go on a cruise with him, since he was unable to attend the previous cruise on the S. S. Anne. We agreed, and away we went!

When we arrived at One Island, Bill introduced us to his old friend, Celio. Like Bill, Celio was a bit... eccentric to say the least. He and Bill had us go deliver a Meteorite to a man on Two Island, because they were fellow collectors. So we made out way to Two Island.

Two Island was much smaller than One Island, so we had an easy time finding the man's house. However, when we arrived, he wouldn't even look at the Meteorite! He was all in a tizzy about some girl named Lostelle! He pleaded with us to go find her, on Three Island and reluctantly, we agreed.

When we arrived there, Three Island was being invaded by some gang of bikers from Kanto. They were blocking the entire road! So we put a stop to that with some good, old-fashioned Pokemon battles.

Afterwards, a girl came running up to us, saying that her friend, Lostelle had gone off to Berry Forest by herself with any Pokemon. She then asked us if we would go check to see if her friend was all right. Since we were looking for Lostelle anyway, we made the long trek to Berry Forest. When we got there, Lostelle was being attacked by a wild Hypno. We took it out easily before heading back to Two Island with Lostelle in tow.

When we got arrived, the man was overjoyed to see Lostelle and overjoyed to receive the Meteorite. Everyone was happy, so we headed back One Island to see if we could spread any more joy. When we got back, Celio said he had fixed the PC system. Funny, I hadn't realized it was broken. He thanked Bill for his visit and Bill and I returned to Cinnabar Island.

When we returned we headed north, towards home. After a nice meal, we then headed to Virdian City to take on the gym. When we arrived, the gym was actually open for once, so we headed inside.

Come to find our, Giovanni has been the gym leader here all this time! We took him out the same way we always do: Grass Power!

Afterwards, we headed to Victory Road when who should we run into but our rival! We took him out with Grass Power!

We then made our way through the Victory Road before arriving at the Pokemon League. After sustaining a couple of losses, we finally became champions!

Quite the powerhouse. Took down most of the Elite Four, and Agatha all on her own. Having never used the Exeggcute line before, I was quite impressed.
