you don't have to if you're using it as a hm slave, but if not, you have to. you can't beat a gym with other type (in this case your starter).

You open your UMC game normally, but with the other one you need to load it from the "File" menu. it should load normally. And, you also have to change one of the 2 emu's joypad and untick "Pause when inactive window" That way you can move tham at the same time without the game pausing when you click the other emu.

I reckon your final team should consist of a Ghastly, a Haunter and a Gengar. Cos then you've technically got all the ghost-types of that region.

I have to say, Gens 1 and 2 pretty much sucked when it came to Ghost and Dragon types - one of the few things Hoenn was actually good at.

Update time (at last :P)

Trained Snale (Steelix) a little bit at Iron Island. Then I proceeded to own Byron, using Grounder, Snake, Slugg and Roll. THen I beat the Two commanders at lake Verity and (insert name here, i dont remember which one was it xD) and I crossed Mt. Coronet and arrived in a snowy, annoying area, where I got Rock Climb. I'm now at Snowpoint, and I have to train a WHOLE lot, Candice is gonna be hell (ironic, ain't it? ice type and hell, which is fiery)

So it's me again :D. I'm now playing the Ice challange. And i started with my fire red version due that i don't have the earlier versions. Because an ice type is only obtainable later in the game, I bred a Shellder in my other fire red game (the one i finished the kanto flying monotype). Named the Shellder Leviathan and traded it to the game I started.
Here's my log:
-Started the game
-Named myself Blue (in the manga the girl is also named Blue) and named my rival Green (also from the manga and this rival is kinda cool)
-Choose Charmander as starter and beat Green for the first time
-Went to Viridian City and got the Oak's Parcel
-Went back and got pokeballs/pokedex
-Caught a Rattata and traded it away for my Leviathan
-Trained Leviathan to lvl 9 and beat Green for the 2nd time

A'ight, beat Candice. She wasn't so hard as I expected, but she gave quite the challenge. After that I saw my Rival get owned in Lake Valor, and I cleared the Galactic Building in Veilstone. Then I went to Mt. Coronet, blah, blah, blah, owned everyone, yadda, yadda, yadda, and got to the top. After beating Mars and Jupiter (with Barry's "help") I tracked down Cyrus in the Weirdo-Worldo (Distorion World), but he owned me. Now I'm training again, when my party is LV 50s more or less. Dammit I cant beat his Gyarados...

Funny Fact: After losing to Cyrus in a parallel dimension with no exit nearby (yes I know I have to defeat Giratina to get out but whatever) I appeared in a Pokecenter as if nothing happened. LOL!

Now I'm training in Iron Island, but if any of you guys know about a better place (available to reach b4 Sunnyshore), PLEASE tell me.
