  • Breaking Bad man you're missing out if you still haven't watched it. Game of Thrones would be great too, if you like fantasy medieval stories with dragons and shit this is the one for you. If you want more swords and battleaxes try Vikings a really great tv show from History highly recommend these tv shows.

As for the movies I recommend the Batman Trilogy by Christopher Nolan and all his other works e.g. Interstellar, Inception, etc. Also Dallas Buyers Club and Pulp Fiction really great movies that you should also watch. ;)

  • I cater to peoples' individual tastes when I'm recommending them shit because I'm not boutta recommend some artsy-fartsy B.S. to someone that watches exclusively, say, superhero movies & Survivor. however I end up accidentally telling most people I'm friends with to watch Rushmore at some point because I adore that movie.

I like to recommend Criminal Minds and CSI to people that like crime shows, and can handle a bit of violence. And I will always recommend Silence of the Lambs to those that can handle it.

Yes. Great choice. Also on my list.

Most of the time I like to know what someone's tastes generally are before I recommend anything. But I have some stand-bys I like to throw at people:

    Pan's Labyrinth
Good for anyone who likes fantasy or fairy tales or something on the darker side of things. Really pretty movie, good story, good characters. Easy to get sucked into it.

    The Fall
Like Pany's Labyrinth, a beautiful movie which is great for people who like fairy tales and fantastical stories. It's really just a weird, beautiful movie unlike many others.

    The Fifth Element
For fun, schlocky, wacky, popcorn scifi movie.

    Dirty Pretty Things
Lots of actors I like, intense kind of movie. Good for someone who likes something with a little grit, but doesn't care for violence.

    The Princess Bride
Like, the classic 80s fantasy movie for someone has never seen a classic 80s fantasy movie.

    Wall-E
My favorite among the Pixar movies. I'm sure plenty most people have seen it though, but I still love it and recommend it to people if I've heard they haven't seen it.

    Pacific Rim
This is a kind of niche movie so I'd have to have a good idea of what kind of taste someone has because, say, if you didn't like The Fifth Element or Pan's Labyrinth I don't think you'd like this movie.

And I don't really have many television recommendations except to say that Veronica Mars is one of the best things that has even been shown on TV.

After seeing Lucid's post I have to add that both Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction are some of the greatest movies ever and I would recommend them to anyone.

I recommend The Wire a lot. It never got the viewership it deserved because it aired back when a lot of people didn't have HBO and it was constantly snubbed by the emmys and other award shows despite being critically acclaimed and eventually becoming a cult hit. It's the greatest show of all time. Watch it you plebs!

  • When I recommend a movie/tv series, it really depends on the other person because I don't try to shove what I like down the throat of someone. If I'm gonna recommend a movie/tv show, it'll be based on what interest them. My reasoning for this is, just because a movie/ tv serie is getting praised doesn't necessarily means that everyone is gonna like it. For example, I'm a huge horror movie fan and I've seen a crapton of zombie movies in my days. Then Zombieland came out and everyone was saying it's awesome and very good. When I actually got around to watch it, I wasn't the 'great zombie movie' that everyone have been saying, nor was it a bad movie. It was an okay movie. Because I've seen my fair share of zombie movies such as the 'Of the Dead' series, Night of the Living Dead and Zombie which imo were better movies than Zombieland. But Zombieland was praised because it kinda opened the gate for the zombie genre to enter the mainstream.

tl;dr: I'm never going to suggest a movie/tv series to someone based on what I like, I will base my suggestions on what THEY like and then suggest movies based on those criteria.

Usually I try and cater to people's individual tastes, but I find myself recommending Babylon Five an awful lot these days when people ask me for TV show recommendations...it's such a tragically overlooked series that really stands out for it's superb plot, diverse cast, universally (haha) fantastic acting, and for being a series set on a space station done right. I can understand people's reluctance - after all, when people think of space stations they tend to think of Deep Space Nine, and that was AWFUL - but I wish more people had seen it.

I don't really recommend movies often...I'm not really a movie sort of person.

...I will also push Suite Precure on anyone who will give me the time of day, irrespective of their interest in proper magical girl shows. xD
