This happens all the time though. At least a few times a year Pokemon Smash (or back then Pokemon Sunday, or the name it'll have next year) would say an announcement is coming, everyone would jump up down in excitement, and then it'll turn out to be something really minor.
I get the disappointment, but it's usually better to assume it's something minor to lessen it. That makes a big announcement more exciting too, I feel. And it makes sense it wasn't a large announcement - they don't want to distract or take away from their worldwide release of a new gen, after all!
