I'm sure almost everyone will use Porky for Pokabu... and I was going to too, but I think Hammy looks better, especially for Pokabu's second evolution (which I previously hated ><)

    Well lets see,

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

I named this guy Drago. I think it's obvious why.

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Feu, which is "fire" in French.

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Daru, just seemed to fit considering it's in its Japanese name.

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Darko, it's a Dark type...Darko sounded cool haha.

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Tryda, which is a word in a different language... I can't remember which word nor the language. XD What I did for quite a few of my Pokemon is used a word that represents them in some way and translated it into a different language.

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Named this one Pooh, from Winnie the Pooh haha.

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Dreko, part of "Dragon" in another language.

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Vaerg, if I remember right that was "Guardian" in another language.

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Heima, which is "at home" in Icelandic. For some reason, reminded me of Iceland and Sigur Ros, and I thought it'd be a suitable name. :P

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Zebua, a bit of a reworked version of it's name's first few letters in Japanese, thought it sounded cool.
    --------
There's quite a few others but I don't feel like listing them all. :P

I've nicknamed all my Pokemon in Black, and I'll go through a few that I can explain.

Like "Penny" the Shimama. I nicknamed her that because of her Electric typing, and if she was male, I would have named her "Bolt". Since she's female, I went with a female character from the same movie, and so Penny.

There's also my Dageki, named "Blue". That was the only name I could think of at the time, because of its skin color. Then I realized that Dageki looks like my manager at work, so I'm going to change Blue's nickname to match my manager.

When I get White in English, my Pokemon are going to have the nicknames that I give my main Pokemon on all my games since FireRed. "Andrew" for my Mijumaru, "Ender" for my Tsutarja, and "Angel" for my Meguroco. It's just something that I do, and I don't plan on changing that tradition. I don't know about the rest of my team, but those three are planned on being on it.

If I ever used a Rankurusu (Jelly Poke) I would name it Neuron because it's a psychic type and appearance-wise. That would be the only reason why I would get one.

  • My Janoby (m) is called Kzaär, my Munna is called Smoök, and my Monmen is called Köttn (should be Köttön but the stupid JP game only allows 5 letters).

They're all named after words in my conlang, namely "king", "smoke" and "cotton", respectively. :3

  • Wait so there is only a max of 5 letter?! I really hope there will be more allowed in the English version. Gosh that cancels out loads of nicknames people would want to give to their pokemon.

Only in the Japanese Version, since the Japanese don't need alot of characters unlike the English language. It will most likely be boosted limit of 10 characters or whatever the limit it was in the past games.

  • Hmm...as of right now, here are my planned nicknames for some Generation V Pokemon:

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Enbuoo - Razorback. Alternate name for a boar. I decided on this and finalized it long ago when Pokabu was first revealed.

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Daikenki - I'm still undecided. Maybe Samurotter or Daikenki...

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Jaroda - Poison Ivy (Poison implies a threat, and ivy...is ivy, I guess.)

Monkey trio - Oakey, Soakey, and Smokey. They sound so cute! :) Courtesy of BleuVII

Might nickname the garbage Pokemon Garbagiga, still undecided... Courtesy of #Emochu.

Here some other names I might use should they not turn out as actual English names:

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Iront/Aianto - possibly Antantium. Courtesy of elarmasecreta.

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Kirikizan - possibly Huricanger/Huracanger (reference to Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger). Always wanted to use that name in some context.

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Crimgan - possibly SkulDrache (means 'skull dragon', as it seems to have rib-like structures on its abdomen).

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

    Emonga - possibly Sparky

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Ononokusu - Battle-Axe or Axehead; most likely the first one due to the axe-shaped tusks. Something with the word "axe" in it, for sure.

Not nicknaming any of the legendaries, AFAIK right now.

~LOL at the thread title reference...!

Thanks for using my idea :)

I name most of my Pokes after Fighting game characters.

Futachimaru:Pit from SSBB but I'll change his name and give it to Zuruggu

Koromori: Cupid because hes that flying dude who makes people fall in love and it says in Kokoromori's dex entry that it makes people happy.

Kirkizan: Vega, a guy with a Talon claw thingy from Streetfighter.

Sazandora: Jason from Jason and the Arganauts(sp?) I think he killed a Hydra.

I got a Baoppu named Bacon

    A Koromori named Rugby

And a Harderrier called BlDog (5char limit sucks :P)

  • Well, I don't own the game yet, but already chose some nicknames (at my sign)

Burungeru/Burungel♂ is SirJulian,or maybe just Julian just because it fits him well. Maybe not the king of the seas, but he certainly is noble.

Sazandora/Sazandra♀ will be named Nyx, as the ancient greek goddess of night. Maybe I'll change it to Erebus, titan of chaos and husband of Nyx if I choose to catch a male Sazandora...

Shinporaa/Shinboraa♂ will be Zapotec, which is the name of a pre-Columbian civilization, as it seems to be based on Nazca lines. Also it's a weird name for a weird (pseudo)bird :D

Warubiaru/Waruvial♂ is Vincent, as it sounds like a mean and cool name.

I had trouble naming my Nattorei♂, as he is a strange plant... So I just shortened it to Nate. Might be changing it when the US names are available, though...

and finally, Elecna (electric + aracna), my Denchura♂ :D

  • What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Zearth - Bokurano reference; the nickname's a corruption for 'The Earth', it is used to name the gigantic mecha within the series.

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Darumatian - A portmanteau of Daruma and Dalmatian. Bonus points for Daruma being part of the pronunciation for Dalmatian in Japanese.

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Kamina - Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann reference; look at its V-shaped marking on its face. They're pretty much the identical to the mentioned character's epic shades.

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

Buggy - One Piece reference; the clown nose. Enough said.

What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

TimBurton - Specifically, The Night before Christmas reference. Its face is pretty reminiscent to that of the titular character's.
