I'm predominantly a mixed team trainer, and my teams generally cover as many of the types as possible (including dual types, I like having ~10 types in my party).

I have twice though tried using a monotype team, going with Normal type in FireRed and Bug type in HeartGold. Needless to say, I didn't fair all that well either time, and it wasn't long before I went back to using a varied team again.
