Okay thanks, Broks killed me 3 times, stupid Onyx, my Charmander keeps missing so Brock gets a chance to kill me. Dangit!
Ummm, you shouldn't be keeping Charmander in against an Onix. Fire is crappy enough without going up against its weakness. Use Water or Grass or Ground instead. Why on earth is Charmander "missing"?

is light ball obtainable in lg?

i bet it is just want to make sure
Yes. Pikachu can be found holding it about 5% of the time.

Good to hear you have found the wonders of move passing through breeding. Don't use Secret Power though. That is a crappy move. Iron Tail isn't much better.

Yikes. Avoid using a low accuracy move against an opponent with a STAB move. It doesn't matter if the move is SE against them or not. As you can see, you missed THREE times. Thankfully the AI is too stupid to capitalize on it and you were able to survive. Against someone with a functional brain, you would have been screwed after the first miss. Like I always say, playing in-game against the weak AI only teaches trainers bad habits. The smartest thing they could have done was put a difficulty level in.

=/ what's so crappy about secret power and iron tail? it's perfect for my flareon having a high attack and all. secret power isn't the best physical move that it could know, i know that, but it helps because it can have a different amount of effects. but it also knows double-edge, so i'm not too concerned with it...

speaking of which, is there a way to multiply the amount of TMs you have? i want my venomoth to learn psychic but i don't want to waste the tm. i'm not speaking in terms of cheat codes, but maybe there's a trick i haven't considered.

First of all, Secret Power is crappy because it is only 70 AP. Second, you should not give Normal attacks to non-Normal Pokes since they do not get any benefit from them. Granted, Flareon's movepool is so limited that it is an exception, but you are MUCH better off using Body Slam which is 85 AP, or my preference of Return which can be 105 AP with max Happiness. Even the HM Strength (80 AP) would be more preferable.

Iron Tail is only 75% accurate, and should not be considered a viable option to keep it in against a Rock-type. As the previous poster has shown, you can gamble against the AI and survive, but against an opponent that doesn't use mathmetical calculations to determine what attack to use, Flareon is dead meat. Not only is speed an issue, but you have the chance of missing. That is also why Substitute is preferred on Flareon. That is also why Shadow Ball is, as well. With a Normal move being the only decent physical attack on Flareon, SB is for the typical Gengar switch.

Now, if you will only ever battle against the pathetic AI, even when you can go WiFi with the DS and DP, continue to battle however you please and with whatever moves you like. If you ever battle against someone else that even remotely knows how to play and you want to stand a chance of not going 0-6, consider a change in strategy. I keep saying it, and I will keep saying it. The AI teaches trainers bad strategy that cannot be applied when battling against someone else.

It is possible to "multiply" TM moves. Any TM the father knows will be passed on to the baby, as long as the baby can learn that move. For example, if a male Swampert that knows TM Ice Beam and HM Surf, and it breeds with a Ditto, the baby Mudkip will be born knowing both moves. As for your Venomoth, if would have not evolved it, Venonat learns Psychic naturally at Lv41. You can also breed your Venemoth (if it is female) with a Spinarak that knows Psychic (Lv53) and your Venonat baby will be born knowing it.

I personally started with Charmander and its relatively easy..just let up until you learn the steel move, metal claw or something + evolve into charmeleon and you're fine...

thanks for making that clear for me shane. i figured now that the best thing to do is make sure that my pokemon are at the lowest necessary levels in my leaf green save so that they learn the best possible moves in D/P. so i started looking at the pokemon movesets in D/P, and while looking at the possible moves my lvl 30 dragonair is destined to learn, i thought to look at dragonite's moveset on serebii. i'm confused about the following:

    — Fire Punch
    75 100 15 10
A fiery punch that may burn the foe.
    — Thunderpunch
    75 100 15 10
An electrified punch that may paralyze the foe.
    — Feather Rest
    -- -- 10 --
    Restores half of max HP
    — Wrap
    15 85 20 --
Wraps and squeezes the foe 2 to 5 times with vines, etc.
    — Leer
    -- 100 30 --
Frightens the foe with a leer to lower DEFENSE.
    — Thunder Wave
    -- 100 20 --
A weak jolt of electricity that paralyzes the foe.
    — Twister
    40 100 20 20
Whips up a vicious twister to tear at the foe.

instead of there being a level, there is a "--" there. what does that mean?

also, i looked at the egg moves of different pokemon, and believed them to be true until i looked at eevee's egg moves. it doesn't verify that it can learn iron tail and secret power as egg moves, but all of my eevee, in fact, learn them as egg moves. is there something i'm not getting?

Yes, there are a few things you are not getting. The first one, I admittedly don't know. I know Dratini learns Thunder Wave at Lv8, but Leer and Wrap don't give a level for Dratini either. I have heard them termed as 'Level 0-1' moves, but haven't yet figured out how they are learned.

Your other issue is that you are confusing true Egg moves with other moves that a Poke can learn through breeding. There are three different types of moves passed on through breeding. Natural moves, TM moves, and Egg moves. Natural moves are simple. If both parents have the same move that they learn naturally, the baby will be born with that move. For example, if a ma and pa Tyranitar both know Crunch, a move that a normal Larvitar cannot learn until Lv43, the baby Larvitar will be born with Crunch, giving you a decisive advantage. Once again, BOTH parents must know the move in order for it to be passed down. Next are TM moves. Any TM/HM moves that the FATHER knows can be passed down to the baby through breeding, assuming the baby can learn that move. Please refer to my previous example of Mudkip that can be born with both HM Surf and TM Ice Beam. Now, even though your daddy Swampert knows Earthquake, Mudkip cannot, so EQ will not be passed on to the baby in this case. The last are your Egg moves. These are moves that your baby can learn through breeding that it can in no other way learn. For example, your Dragonite can learn Dragon Dance, Dragonbreath, Haze, Light Screen, Mist, or Supersonic through breeding with a Poke that knows that move. To get a baby Dratini that knows Dragon Dance (a highly suggestion move for Dragonite), you breed a female with a male Altaria that knows Dragon Dance, which it learns at Lv40. The ensuing baby will be born with Dragon Dance.

Breeding gets more involved where you can use TMs over and over and using chaining methods to get moves from one Poke, through one or two other Pokes, and finally onto the target Poke.

It works by the number of steps. Your Pokemon in daycare gets 1 exp for every step you do and yes getting from lv 31 to 55 wont be easy and will cost you some money.. you would be better off training it yourself with a exp share.

Another Question: Can you make Secret Bases in LG and FR? Im going to take a wild gusse and say no but i dunno, i accidently deleted secret power in my Sapphire game so ill trade the pokemon from LG that i teach Secret power to over to Sapphire.

No there are no secret bases in LG/FR. SB can only be made in R/S/E and D/P.

    Haha XD thanks.
With Moltres, like any other legendary needs patience to catch. What I did was drag out the battle and then put it to sleep and finally used a couple of timer balls on it.
If Timer Balls arent availiable to you yet then probably sleep would be the best option I think but I'm not too sure there.

yah, i just killed moltres after it wasted 21 balls. i did everything to it, and still couldn't catch it. besides, i think it's the useless bird of the 3. when i caught articuno and zapdos, i only threw one ultra ball. stupid moltres >/

and whoa shane... i had no idea it was all that technical o.o. thanks for the info though. real helpful :). i also have one more question to ask (god forbid): is there any tricks to easily catching pokemon in the Safari Zone? i have bellsprout using sweet scent, so i've ran into a lot of Kangaskhan so far, but they always run if i throw rocks >/. they're the last kanto pokemon i need to catch for D/P. do you suggest any tactics to catching it?

lol i do the silly a+b tap constantly and that doesn't seem to help ._.
