This thread is being invaded by youngsters. Kids these days, I tell ya, they never listen!

Anyway, I'm in the same boat as you, Davy. I'm 20, and I was first exposed to pokemon through my older cousin. I tried it, then started watching the show, and have gotten a game from every generation since. I remember my little brother and I getting up to watch the show... lost interest after the Orange Island stuff, I was just getting too old for it.

Hmm, i'm 19 and i remember the Anime when it came out.
Then i got the game [A Gameboy Color Yellow with Pokemon Yellow :3 best birthday ever]
and i remember the cards. looking back, those cards seem stupid to me.
    but back then.....

'What? you have a FOIL Victreebel?? i'll trade you a Kangaskhan two Starmies and a Growlithe 1st edition for it!!!'

lol, that's all that happened with my cards, constantly trading.
of course, then had no value. i was just wasting my parents money.
    and the fad went away.
but i continued playing the games, of course :D

So, for us who are 18+ (I don't care if you're 16 but remember the show, 18+ only) which original episode(s) (is/are) your favourite(s)?

The three that seem to always stick in my mind are 1) When Ash battles Misty for the Cascade Badge 2) When Ash takes on and loses to the kid with the super-Sandshrew and 3) When the gang come across that Pokemon academy with nerds everywhere.

Nineteen. Still plays Pokemon. 'Nuff said.

That was my description in my Summer Camp profile as a youth counselor this year.

I'm going to be 23 this year... and I still play Pokemon. Pokemon Pearl was the main reason I bought my DS last December. Though I don't play it as much as I used to, I'm not planning on giving up Pokemon any time soon. :D

My favourite "old" episode is the one where Ash, Brock and Misty rescue that Charmander that was abandoned by a trainer named Damian. I also like the one where Ash gets kicked out of the Celadon City gym and has to dress up like a girl to fool Erika into giving him a gym battle.

I'm 21 and I just started playing. I always wanted pokemon when I was little but I didn't have anything to play it on :( Now that I'm an old lady and I have a DS, I went out and bought Diamond and I'm probably going to get one of the GBA ones when I finally have some money.

I'm glad to see there are some older people on here. I only know two people my age or older that play pokemon in real life. I'm trying to change that though.

I'm 19, and started to get into Pokemon when I was nine with trading cards, and the show. I watched the first two seasons before I stopped, but now I'm trying to get caught up on all I missed; which will take quite a while lol! I know a few people around my age that are into it, and I hope to remain a fan for many more years.

Twenty, started way back in the late 90's when the anime first started airing on UPN (or Fox -- whichever), eventually moved to the games (Red being my first) a couple months after Yellow was released. Oh man, those were the days.

So, for us who are 18+ (I don't care if you're 16 but remember the show, 18+ only) which original episode(s) (is/are) your favourite(s)?

    1. "The Ghost of Maiden's Peak," just because it's a classic episode of Teams Rocket and Twerp working together, only this time, it involves Brock and James being perverted, Misty and Jessie getting insulted, and a pretentious Gastly ripping everyone off. Also, it was the first episode I've ever seen, so it's hard not to love it.

    2. "Pokemon Scent-sation." For crossdressing Ash. Enough said.

    3. The entire Sabrina arc, if only because you don't often see a female Gym Leader utterly wasting Ash. His win was only by a deus ex machina, I think, but then, what else was new back then?

    4. "Holy Matrimony," if only because I seriously have a fondness for James. Or maybe this episode was why I have a fondness for James. Either way, dominatrix fiancee and an episode ending with Rocketshipping. I'm good.

Also, about that Mudkip, was that picture by any chance on Encyclopedia Dramatica? If it was, then I've seen it, and I approve, though the Pikachu girl is cuter.

before anyone bitches at me, yes, I use Japanese names. Got a problem? Look it up.

    Woo! Dude yeah!

I'm Phil and I'm 19 and will always hold Pokémon as a huge nostalgia!
I'm also one of the few and brave that like the original 151 and think the older ones lack in quality! The Gold/Silver Pokémon are acceptable but further than that is a creative landslide for the worse.

actually, you're one of SEVERAL retards who do nothing but worship this "nostalgia" like the second coming and never give any of the newer Pokemon a god damn chance. Not to say I hate nostalgia and just bury it behind me to never be looked back on again. Hell, some of the first 151 are still among my favorites (like Kyuukon), and I still fondly look back on the days of Super Nintendo. However, life is about progress, and you've got to accept newer things as well. Put simply, it's about a balance, and unfortunately, several people are ignorant and will just lean towards one side completely.

hmmm.... is it just me, or does each newer Pokémon generation keep descending in design?

is this even the same dimension!? Charmeleon is a very well-thought out and well designed character.
This other accordion-looking thing looks like an 8 year old was trying to draw Gligar and failed miserably.

are you shitting me? Lizard is just some stubby red parasaurolophus with a flame on its tail.... yeah, totally original. At least Dorapion's spikes actually allows its design to differentiate from looking too much like an ordinary scorpion. In fact, that's a kind of trait you'll notice in a lot of newer Pokemon: they're far more radically altered from appearing like regular animals than the first generation did.

    3. The entire Sabrina arc, if only because you don't often see a female Gym Leader utterly wasting Ash. His win was only by a deus ex machina, I think, but then, what else was new back then?

Erika, Akane, Lila, Natsune (first encounter, not officially a Gym match). That might not sound like a lot, but considering he only gets utterly wasted by about one or two Gym Leaders per saga, that's actually a lot.

And since you brought up the deus ex win, I figure I'll point out that that's another thing I see nostalgics will constantly gloss over: the early parts of the anime involved a LOT of deus ex moments. Let's not forget about pity badges, the Pokemon hardly ever evolving, and battles that only tended to last a second and were written like ass. Seriously, Jouto may've sucked balls, but Advanced Generation was a major improvement and the show's only gotten better since (though, most people aren't willing to give it that chance simply because a certain character left the cast).

Also, at this point in time, I've kinda accepted the anime for what it is. It's always gonna be episodic, the Rocket Dan are always gonna be comic relief (a lot of which is actually pretty damn good), and there's no escaping that it's an advertisement targeted towards children, just as it's been since day one. Sure, some of the plot and characterization could improve (in fact, the Diamond/Pearl saga's been doing just that), there can be better choreographed battles and more spotlight on real badass mother fucking Pokemon, but overall, it's pretty hard-set on being a tad formulaic. It's pretty good just to see an animated adaptation of an enjoyable video game series, and getting to see all your favorite creatures from said games in action, and you can even get some good laughs out of it, but don't expect some hugely epic action drama anime (much like Digimon, in contrast) out of this. That's what other media (like manga) is for. If you're still not satisfied, you can always make your own fanfiction or, in my case, doujinshi.

Oh, and as for classic episodes I enjoyed.... if you don't mind an answer venturing as late as the Orange Islands, I did enjoy the one where Pikachu and Nyaasu got tied together and lost on an island full of giant Pigeot and Saidon.

Well I may have everyone beat... I'm 22...

well, you are older than me, but someone clearly missed the woman on the previous page who stated she was 28. Is three pages really long enough to justify skimming over a thread before posting?

Anyway, I'm 21, soon to be 22 in about three months. I get the feeling that I'm actually one of the earliest westerners to take an interest in the franchise, because I first got a glimpse of the games way back in 1996, I think. In an issue of Nintendo Power, they showed the covers to Pocket Monsters Green and Red. I didn't know what the hell they were, but the title and the covers both seemed interesting, and I would've liked to know more about these games (and what these different versions were all about) at the time. As soon as it come overseas under the title "Pokemon" (and with a Blue version instead of Green for whatever bizarre reason), I instantly recognized it as this "Pocket Monsters" from back then. It didn't take long for me to get the games and some VHS tapes of the anime (my local station didn't air it, and I didn't get WB for a while). I also plan to be into it for a long time, as I never really lose interest in a game franchise of any sort as I get older. I'm always a gamer at heart, and I enjoy games for being fun, simple as that. Age is completely irrelevant there (in fact, age should be irrelevant to a lot of media).

I gotta say, I'm a bit disappointed in this thread. Given the age in the title, I honestly was expecting a shitload of mature content in here, having all hell break loose and making this as no-bars-held as your average 4chan thread.... except still kinda within the guidelines of no porno and other crap. You know, discussions on the type of Pokemon hentai out there or talk on which chick (or guy) in the franchise you'd most like to bang and whatnot.

I'm 19 and I've been into Pogeymans since I was 14 when I first came to Canada. :D

Oh wow, I'm impressed with Yamato-san's answers. I agree with a lot of that. Hell, I can see myself typing something like that. Good to see I'm not the only one seeing those things!

I'm a huge fan of Diamond/Pearl, seriously, both the games and the animé. This whole nostalgia thing, I absolutely do not get it. DP have done nothing but improve both areas.

I really liked some of the pokemon in the newer generations. Like Scizor, Heracross, Luxray, Milotic, etc. And really didnt like some of the 1st, like Jynx, Mr Mime and Meowth. It's a matter of taste, but generally the 3rd gen kinda sucked and in every generation they make new legendaries, starters, birds at the start, etc, which delivered unorginal results at one point

@ Yamato-san: EEEEHWWWWWWW, why do you have a japanese name o.O!!?? OMGOMG!

I am a minor so just asking can I post here? Cause I know what retro is. I play pokemon silver on a 4-battery hunk-boy(the original game-boy as I call it). And it always comes to my ind. Is there no better satisfaction than taking a dump while playing pokemon on a 4-battery game boy
