I'm writing one for the Digimon fandom
    I love you.

    Anyway...
What are your thoughts on "what if" fics? i.e., what if Ash had gotten his first choice of starter, what if Meowth hadn't decided to join Team Rocket, what if Nurse Joy quit her job, etc.
Awesome. I'd relaly like to read one of those, actually, it seems really cool to look at the story like that, and how things couldve turned out...
Like if Ash hadn't fried Misty's bike :o

Someone write one so I can read it >.>

How do you come up with names for you characters?
Totally at random. Some of them are names of people I know in real life, first and last names. Some of my names were inspired by the names of some of the fugitives profiled on the America's Most Wanted website XD. As for my main character, I've always been partial to the name "Lisa," and her last name was taken from a shopping mall in North Charleston, South Carolina... a mall that I've never actually stepped foot in, lolz.

I've only read one Digimon fanfic before, and its sheer wretchedness nearly set my eyes on fire. Hope yours is better! :D So, where are you posting/going to post this fic? Is there some forum that I don't know about where all the good Digimon fics are hiding?

How do you come up with names for you characters?

Humans: randomly. Pokemon: occasionally random, most often I look at their Japanese names and alter them to make a suitable name. With one character I liked the Japanese name so much I left it unedited (Rarutos = Ralts). But Aurikara went through about six name changes before I settled on the name I came up with first.

What are your thoughts on "what if" fics? i.e., what if Ash had gotten his first choice of starter, what if Meowth hadn't decided to join Team Rocket, what if Nurse Joy quit her job, etc.

Bleah, fics with anime characters. I don't read or write them, with very few exceptions. So I can't answer this.

I like fics that deal with the anime character and their lives portrayed differently than how the show does, but only when they deal with people that aren't main characters.

Never seen one. Actually, that sounds like a very good idea. I might do something like that, where everything in the pokemon universe is reversed (Ash is smart, he gets his first choice of pokemon, meowth is a cop (lulz), all the Nurse Joys are grouchy and complain a lot, etc. etc.)

Seeing as I'm juggling two fics and a one-shot right now, however, it will probably have to wait.

Currently, my own fic is sitting on my hard drive. I haven't looked at it in almost two months. But I'm soon going to get back into the process of editing what I wrote, which was rushed. (It was my NaNoWriMo novel.) And I forgot that it reached almost 100 pages in three chapters. Yeesh.

I really don't know about good Digimon forums. The two that I've been on really didn't have good fics. As for ff.net, well...most of those fics are couple fics or "original DigiDestined/Tamer" fics, neither of which I can stand.

Like I said, my own fic is a "what if" fic for Adventure 02. And I really can't find other fics of the sort in that fandom to compare it to.

For good fics, I recommend Lord Archive's Digital War, which deals with the canon characters of Adventure. There are a few others which are character-centric, so if you tell me which characters you like, I can find a few fics at various sources.

How do you come up with names for you characters?

Depends on the fandom. Pokemon tends to be big on puns for major characters, so I tend to establish a theme and build on that. For example, there may be a fic in which everyone's named after a flower or one in which everyone bears a (real) name that has something to do with who they are. Yes, it's incredibly lame, but that's really just the way the Pokemon fandom works anyway. So, why not, you know?

For everything else, I heavily abuse Behind the Name, just as Gummy does. I know I really shouldn't, but sometimes, I need a push.

What are your thoughts on "what if" fics? i.e., what if Ash had gotten his first choice of starter, what if Meowth hadn't decided to join Team Rocket, what if Nurse Joy quit her job, etc.

They're great if they're done well, and I really think this is the kind of mentality that every AU story should have.

...It's just that the last good one I've read was probably in 2001.

Oh man, I almost forgot a couple other cases I got names from. For Balin, it's actually from the name of the main character in the movie, "Kingdom of Heaven." I realized though I spelt the name wrong. XD Also on the name Ernest, it's of my favorite author Ernest Hemingway, hehe.

What are your thoughts on "what if" fics? i.e., what if Ash had gotten his first choice of starter, what if Meowth hadn't decided to join Team Rocket, what if Nurse Joy quit her job, etc.

Well, I actually did something like that for "Rid of the Scarlet Letter." I thought to myself, what if one of the Rocket members killed Giovanni, and then I started writing that one shot, in which Jessie did it for the freedom of every Team Rocket member.

As for my own thoughts on those stories, I like them a lot. Even though I like the anime, it's fun seeing a different spin on them.

Random really. Sometime good name just pop up to my head and sometimes I use the name sites.

Well, I love those fics. Especially if it's related to the anime. It puts an entirely new perspective on the boring ol' episodes.

BTW, my fan fic Pokemon Infinity is up. Anybody want to read it? The prologue is currently up and I can post the first chapter if you want.

I don't know why, but I'm not allowed to post URLs.

I've read a couple of these before, and they can be done alright. For me, though, I'm not all that fond of any canon fic (with Ash,Team Rocket or anything else), so they've never been big on me. Although I do agree that they can be done well, though.

    Thought I'd ask a question:

How often do you think about Symbols, Motifs, etc., when writing a fic?

I assume most people just write for the fun of it and don't worry about stuff like symbols or motifs, but in the fic I'm writing now, I've been trying to implement them into my story. It's really difficult actually, and I'm worried that it might just pass over some of my reader's heads.

If I'm doing a comedy, not really. Most of the time it's a parody of something (like "Destiny Tricks" not only a parody of OT fics but the concept of Pokemon fanfiction overall). If a serious fic, yes. In "Nothing, Everything," I did a few symbols and motifs. One of the motifs is the statues and pictures and also whenever the guys speak some historical accuonts to prove a point on one of the themes of NE, the strenghts and flaws of history. Another motif is the clues Ernest left behind, which dealt with another theme of NE, different interpertations. As for symbols...the story isn't posted far enough yet. XD

I admit sometimes I do wonder if any of the readers will get the symbols, motifs, and themes I put in, but that's fine with me if they didn't find any. I'm not going to force anyone to find it and overanalyze it and such.

Not up until my last posted chapter, when major symbols and motifs were introduced. I put them in at random points in the chapter, so most of my readers probably think they're just pieces of information, but they actually serve a great purpose in future chapters.

How do you come up with names for you characters?

Usually, I like to name my characters after different hues of colors I like, or the names just appear randomly in my head.

What usually inspires you to continue writing?

Where do you come up with names for your fics?

Do/have you ever let emotions such as anger get in the way of writing fanfics, or would you rather put the emotions towards energy for writing?

STOP IT WITH ALL THE TOPICS!!!

What usually inspires you to continue writing?

When I need to start a chapter, I read over previous reviews numerous times. When I need to finish a chapter, I think of a future scene that I just have to write one day.

Where do you come up with names for your fics?

Song lyrics. Divine Intervention came from a rap song.

Do/have you ever let emotions such as anger get in the way of writing fanfics, or would you rather put the emotions towards energy for writing?

I'm a like a statue when writing. I just push everything aside and let my do the talking (er... typing). In other words, my current mental state has nothing to do with my writing ability.

A good song that I've been listening to, a great picture (usually fanart, but it doesn't have to be), or the ****ed up dream I had last night. 0_o

A lot of the time I find my self browsing the sci-fi or fantasy section on Deviant Art, and I usually come up with some great ideas there. Other times I'll just read someone else's fic and I'll just use some of their ideas to build on my own. And there is a lot to be said for the possibilities that are the blank page.

I come back to find my pair loving my mom. O_O Awkward much?

What are your thoughts on "what if" fics? i.e., what if Ash had gotten his first choice of starter, what if Meowth hadn't decided to join Team Rocket, what if Nurse Joy quit her job, etc.

If they are done well, I see no problem. However, I don't recall ever reading one, so I can't really say too much.

What usually inspires you to continue writing?

Because I'm horrible and lazy, I have no idea what keeps me motivated, seeing as I haven't written JaB in...a month...shame, shame, shame.

Where do you come up with names for your fics?

Usually a line in the story, such as Just A Brother(which a lot of people who have read it like to use when talking to me about something) and Face Down. e1337 came of 1337 and elite. Duh. Where in the world Survival of the Awake got that horrible name, however, I do not intend to find out.

Do/have you ever let emotions such as anger get in the way of writing fanfics, or would you rather put the emotions towards energy for writing?

Depending on what the fic's about, I say apply it. Although, in some cases where I was emotionally distrought, I did not write, despite Just A Brother having a character with that type behavior.

Like Gummy, many times rereading the reviews and also looking foward to some scenes I can't wait to write.

Where do you come up with names for your fics?
All kinds. Most of the time from orginal titles of literature and I twist them somewhat. Both "Rid of the Scarlet Letter" and my upcoming fic "Hounds of Goldenrod" are the examples. I also would just title what would the story be about. An example is "Forever Young," bascially a Crawdaunt battles because he thinks it'll make him young forever.

However, sometimes I get it from lines either from movies or books. "Nothing, Everything" comes from a line at the end of "Kingdom of Heaven," in which one of the characters is asked a question and then he answers, "Nothing. Everything." (Now I think about it, many aspects of that movie inspired the story XD).

Do/have you ever let emotions such as anger get in the way of writing fanfics, or would you rather put the emotions towards energy for writing?
Sometimes my emotions inspire me to make an emo theme one shot. XD In all seriousness though, most of the time if I'm mad, I don't write.
