    Shouldn't it be "Romans"? ._.

Anyways, I've been to Rome and I can probably agree with this on them that they should get rid of the Gypsies..
Gypsies there are like Hobos here, basically.. Con arists, most of them.

I'm serious. One old "lady" who was begging for money, pulled their sleeve a little too high.. and I could obviously tell that the hand belonged to a middle-aged/ younger man.
    :/

Another time there was another one walking down the stairs.. pretending to be struggling with her cane.. and her skirt was pulled a little too high and I could see her BRAND NEW NEON NIKES.

    Yeah..

And most of them beg for you to give them money to support their babies.. meanwhile the babies that they're holding are from friends or family of theirs.

I know because I have family in Italy and they can see through all the tricks that the Gypsies try to pull. And told us about it when we went ._.

    So yeah..

Hmm, good point. On this note, we should probably get rid of the black people in the United States. They're violent and fleet-footed, most of them. The country would be more peaceful without them. Also, we should deport all hispanics for stealing our jobs.

    Hold on a sec.

There's more than one term for Gypsies. The one I'm using is for the homeless people there in Rome.

You've never been there, so you wouldn't know what it's like to see more people begging for money than tourists in the Colosseum.

So don't start being sarcastic with me. And don't try to make other people think I'm a racist.

Just saying that they should make a law against loiters or beggars.

That isn't what this thread is about, though. The article stated that Italy is condoning prejudice against an entire race of people, not just thieves.

I don't think that you understand that when Italy is talking about Gypsies, they don't mean the race of people, they mean the thieves.

I'm Italian, so I would know.

The article says 'roma people'. That is an ethnic group, not a synonym for thief.

Obviously if the article is referring to Gypsies as a slang word, the UK wouldn't know the difference.

You've never been there, so you don't know what it's like when you're even going through Milano and clutching your purse for dear life as you watch people smoke heavy cigars with babies on their laps.
You've never had your uncle tell you that someone held him with a gun to his head asking for money. And he's 92 years old!

And yes, I have met a very nice Roma family that owned a restaurant in Venice, but with everything else going on in Milan and Rome, I really don't blame the government for wanting to fingerprint people who are immigrants.

You see, unlike America or England or etc, Italy has smaller towns where basically everyone in the neighbourhood is a family friend to each other. People are nosy and like to get into each other's business. It's a culture thing. So obviously it's coming from somewhere else if they can't pinpoint who it is who stole.

"Discriminatory" or not, if fingerprinting's going to help stop the problem for theft, then I'm all for it.
And honestly, I think Italy should have a way to identify everyone in the country. I don't see a problem with it.

You don't foster tolerance and understanding by driving another wedge between different groups of people. That just leads to more racism and insulation and dehumanization. As long as there are Roma that AREN'T criminals, any discriminatory policies against them are going to be racist.

Besides, "gypsy" as a slang word pretends to connote its corresponding negative stereotypes. This only leads to prejudice and that can lead to discrimination, like we read.

Is that any good while the word's proper meaning should merely denote a member of the Roma people?

Well I personally think that Italy should fingerprint everyone. Like have it a government regulation.

Imagine if they kept a worldwide database of everyone's Fingerprints and ID, and made it regulation that anyone over 16 had to get them done, and then after, anyone who turns 15 has a year to get it printed, and if the police ends up catching you and you're not in the database, you get recorded and get a fine or etc..

But I don't get why you posted this, Allstories.. for discussion? Because I gave you my input but you argued with me.
Did you just want everyone to agree with you and bash the Italian government?

Obvously he did. I don't think he made it to make the section look pretty.

He did... What did you expect, exactly? To debate, to argue, to disagree and to discuss opposing ideas... all are essentially the same thing.

No, I want to be able to express my opinion and not have other people tell me it's wrong.

But it seems to me like he just tried to persuade me to think of it in his way, when I obviously don't. And try and make me look racist.

I don't care if you agree with me or not. Just don't be sarcastic with me and treat me like a wrong idiot.

There's a fine line between having a good discussion, and having one where you're totally disrespecting the other person. :/ I feel disrespected.

I still stand by my idea of having a worldwide Identification Database, though.

Look Kura, I'll finally bring it up. I really think you're a good willed, intelligent and nice member, I do-- but I'm growing tired of you feeling attacked wherever you go. You've got to learn to debate and accept that wrong or not there will be always people who disagree with your opinion. You and Allstories were having a healthy debate up there, until you started assuming the wrong things.

It's kind of my job here to decide whether there is respect in a discussion or not, and it's boring, but I'm pulling it off... and I do not think Allstories has disrespected you, he just has provided sharp and crude arguments against yours. He has not even tried to persuade you of anything, I don't know where that came from. I have just reviewed the topic word for word and have not found the least amount of disrespect on either part.

In short, Kura, please stop assuming everyone is attacking you. You're a good member with loads of potential, don't waste that.

Sorry, but you quoted me and I said that "I FEEL DISRESPECTED." Not the fact that you think that it wasn't disrespectful.
Read his first reply to me and that's where you can see he was trying to persuade me with a hint of sarcasm.

I don't think I'm wasting anything, because I'm not ignoring members, and I'm not dissing members either.

I don't care if Allstories has his own opinion, but he shouldn't mock mine. (Refer to his first reply, yet again.)

And being on topic here, What do people think of the fingerprinting everyone idea?
