though there were mistakes in dp/pt they were marginal remember they are only just starting to use 3D in handhelf form so its still a pretty new area

This is true, Diamond and Pearl were the first Pokémon games to be tried out on a 3D format and had to have a few minor slip ups. Like all games, the first try at everything wouldn't always turn out exactly perfect, nothing ever does, but it can always be improved. However, whether or not they fix this problem the 3D design has been an extended feature for the game. As the bag development, the cut scenes, etc has taken an extra use with the 3D graphics. Whether the few minor problems are fixed, I wouldn't know until I play it. Overall though, seeing as the games have continued, they can fix the mistakes they happened to have moved on in Platinum if they still work on the extra development. I don't see a basic problem with it, but I think it'll come along fine overall for the 3D effect.

While the cutscene is certainly a good representation of the DS graphics, how would the grass be such? :P
Here's what the grass patches looked like in D/P/Pt. It's pretty much just the same grass that was used in the GBA games. The new grass (couldn't find a good image) actually isn't flat 2D but instead 2.5D, so unlike previous games, it has some depth to it.

I think the 3D concept may be a bit overboard in some ways, but overall I'm pretty happy about it. Remember that game from forever ago, called Pokemon XD? It turned out pretty well, and although this game is on a different platform, I'd really like 3D to return with Johto Pokemon.

I can see nintendo doing something like XD for wii. They released a Pokémon Game for Wii not long ago, a 3D one (Melee Pokémon Scramble). The only problem is, Pokémon may be in the end of the line...

    Comparison: Tall Grass and Water

    Graphics Discussion

As you can see the Tall Grass (where wild Pokemon appear) has been changed. The new colour is nice, and it has some depth to it now. A bit too square-ish in my opinion :O

    Graphics Discussion

As you can see there are now tiny bubbles on the surface, there's a darker tone to it, and in footage, the shadows on the edges ripple slowly and orgasmically.

Whadda you guys think? Like, dislike?

I have to agree with you on the water, it simply looks amazing. As for the new tall grass, I'm giving it a meh.

Isn't that the water from the slowpoke well? I doubt the regular water would look like that. Of course it would be darker if it's in a cave...

Also how is the hg/ss grass squarer? The dpp grass is incredibly blocky and square! I love the new grass, its like a field it all merges together and you can picture pokemon hiding in it (unlike the dpp grass)

Mmm, I must say that I'm quite impressed with the graphics so far. They look more detailed, and have a calm appeal to them. The grass is a great change, in my opinion. I like how it looks more complete and together, and as Kyledove said, I can actually imagine Pokemon hiding in it.

I'm looking forward to seeing bodies of water outside of Slowpoke Well to see if they differ, too. :O

As with everyone I agree, the water is amazing. The grass isn't really square by the looks of it, it's more like a bush.

I love the improvements, since that does look like cave water it will be lighter outside most likely but I am sure it will still look just as good. The graphics look great. New and improved graphics on my favorite set of games, one of the new many features I am looking forward to!

I like the new designs, I just hope that the colors don't begin to look washed out and semi-sepia.

As you can see there are now tiny bubbles on the surface, there's a darker tone to it, and in footage, the shadows on the edges ripple slowly and orgasmically.

    Orgasmic?

    wtf?!

The grass looks weird to me, but at least it actually looks tall. xD
The water however, looks a lot nicer. More detailed and whatnot. I hope it ripples when we're surfing.

I like both, like Kyledove said, you can actually imagine a Pokémon hiding in it. The water looks really detailed, that could also be a design for deep water meant for HM Dive? :3

I've seen the grass before and for me it isn't something I fancy too much. It went a little overboard using the new 3D effect to it, and it didn't give it the best look there is. It is now a little to thick and too high. If it could have kept the simplicity that DPPt had, then I would have been fine with that. Also, if they were aiming to go a little higher then using a little similarity with the tall grass found near Forretree City in RSE would have been a better look to go by. However, it isn't something major that disturbs me altogether.

As for the water, definitely nice. In a cave, I would expect it to be dark and the added detail was definitely a plus. It looks a lot more realistic when compared to that from DPPt and with the extra detail it seems to stand out more. Now, seeing as this is in a cave, I'm sure we can expect a little difference for that in an ocean. Nevertheless, I would still like to see the detail added in and the ripple effect as stated above.

The water is a nice upgrade.
The grass looks iffy, I would have to see a full pic of it to judge it.

I actually think they look a bit prettier and more taken care of than DPP. But that's just me.
