i'm just concerned about how having something like a male roselia would influence a kid's views on sexuality and gender roles later on
What's wrong with a male roselia? I doubt anyone would care about the gender, only that boys tend to like to have boy pokemon (my brother for instance), and girls like to have female Pokemon (that's me).

I think that all pokemon should have a male/female gender except for :
chansey/blissey, jynx, and some other that I can not think of at the moment, I'll edit when I think of them.

Come on... even if human stereotypes tell us that there's something feminine about long silky thingies covering the legs, the Pok?mon don't need to think so. Of course I automatically associate every species with a gender, but a lot of Pok?mon I, for example, simply think of as genderless and can't think of as either gender.

I always thought that Ralts looked more like a male, but the other 2 look like females. I've always liked the idea of genders having teeny differences, be it colour, size, just something so they could be either male or female, cuz for alot of Pokemon...they just don't look like females.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if some pokes were only male, how could you breed to get one before FR/LG came out? you couldn't! besides, in reality, you can't have pokemon only one gender or it'd go extinct(miltank & tauros are exceptions, since they're put that way bacause they're both cows)

If Latias was always male that would really darken my day.

I'm a guy, and I like female Pokemon moreso (or whatever's cute in general). However, in game I tend to "attach genders" according to my first impression of them (I'll only catch a Male Abra and a Female Ralts, for example). That's usually the case, but some others I could care less about (Rattata, Sandshrew, etc.).

Sounds like people are being a tad sexist. =P We all have our preferences I suppose. But "Mr. Mime" can't really be only a male, for the reason that his JAPANESE name does not include the adjective "MISTER/MR." So..when they brought the game over seas, they just kept it's gender ratio (The rate of which the pokemon appears as one sex or the other) the same. Small reasons like that. The legendaries do not often have sexes because they are MEANT to be the only one, otherwise there should be both sexes to each and every poke'mon (Male Jynx, >_>) I prefer to have females on my team, because we all know they ARE the better of the sexes. ^_~
