Both are due this coming friday >.>

I suppose I could do a bit of one, and also do the fic if I get bored or something.

One is about a sililoquy of one of Shakespeare's history plays, the other is a essay about ethics.

The former is supposed to be 1000 words, and the latter is to be 5-7 pages.

    EDIT: 3003 posts :O

Anywho I think I thought of a way to sort of solve my inability to continue writing my fanfic (aside from being busy), I think we mentioned the other reasons earlier on. Needless to say what I propose is a sort of collaborative thingy. Wherein some of us can go on MSN and have the chat window on one side and the fic on the other, sort of as an encouragement to continue writing it, perhaps while talking about it, or other similar questions. Anyone?

Now that I think of it, there is also PC's chatroom (aka the PC IRC channel)

I have a question. How do I get the "[Pokemon]" tag in front of my fic title?
Done and done. I'm still trying to keep on top of old fics being updated and getting the prefixes.

Also, Feign, that idea wouldn't work for me. Whenever I sign onto MSN I always get too distracted to write. So, like, I'd either have to tell people to leave me alone or just talk to my writing friends who would understand. Not like that works anyhow, though, at least for some people I talk to.

Besides, I still like Write or Die for a good "WRITE NOW! WHY DID YOU STOP WRITING!" because it's more effective to me. Probably because the screen goes all red and then the program starts deleting words if you don't keep writing.

O that write or die thing is like a program? Does it recognize if you've left word?

I seem to like writing is short bursts :S Ah deleting words, I'd feel more discouraged X_x

Me and a few friends have done that already and it seems to be working for us. If one of us has a question or a part that needs checking, the others will give feedback and such. Heck, bobandbill and I have googledocs and I would be able to see the corrections he did real time. So yeah Feign, if you want I can set up a chatroom for the PC writers.

    !

That sounds like an interesting idea there, actually... sure, it means we must become slaves to google, but then again, who isn't already? =P Google docs works well for such stuff, IMO (although highlighting stuff in betaing is annoying at times to change and all...).

^But then wouldn't we be able to see each other's secret plots and twists and such? I mean it's fine for homework and thesis's and such, but I'm wary about it's applications for beta-ing fanfiction.

Then again, I've never used Google Docs so I don't know how it works, and I'm basing it on the last few posts. :P

Also, on the subject of proposals, what do you guys think of a Fanfiction of the Year(FFOTY) Award as opposed to a Fanfiction of The Month(Which is Moderator controlled apparently if I'm not mistaken)? With stricter rules and nominations instead of a popularity contest (i.e. Member of the Month MOTM)...

I think it could be done, but frankly I think that most voting things turn into popularity contests sooner or later. If not this year or the next, then probably sometime in the future. There's really no way not to make it a popularity contest except for making people give elaborate reasoning behind their nominations - which nobodylikes to do - or go take each nominated fic and read all the way through it - which no panel wants to do.

Well, I was wondering if the elaborate reasoning could be toned down a bit. I did think of that, but then I thought, people are lazy.

Instead, Fanfiction will be nominated by nominators which are selected through certain criteria. And then voters must also pass certain less strict criteria.

Also, I was thinking of adding Categories, such as Best use of Grammar, Favourite Protagonist, stuff like that.

Examples could be that Nominators must at least review 5 other works of fiction before nominating fiction for each of the categories. They may only nominate one piece of fiction in each category out of the allotted 5 unless they review another 5 fics. And when I say review, I mean have reviewed in the past.

    ...Or stuff like that.

But still, this is all just a proposal without Moderator Permission

Edit: *Gasps* I've just posted the prologue for NG-137 Synthetic Integration if anyone's interested... XD

That's a lot of work. And who would pick the people who would do the nominations?

Plus, that seems to knock out a few inhabitants of this section. I can think of a few people who haven't reviewed fics for whatever reason, and they might like to have their opinion known.

Then, y'know, what if there's some sort of stipulation on the depth of reviews accepted? Is it five reviews of any quality? Or is it five reviews of a high quality? There's a difference between people reviewing five different fics saying something like "Great job. Like X interaction between Y and Z. Keep it up!" and someone having a more-than-one page review that points out mistakes and shows how to correct them.

idk. I don't like putting some stipulations/tests on allowing people to vote. (But that may be my history nerd!side showing through.)

About the nomination people, they would post in a thread specialized for the nomination. The people that meet the criteria would have their nominations taken seriously and the ones that ignored the warnings will be well, ignored.

Also, the nominators might show(by posting links) that they've actually reviewed work in the past. Not just people who stumble in the FF section because their friends told them to nominate their fic for them.

Plus, that seems to knock out a few inhabitants of this section. I can think of a few people who haven't reviewed fics for whatever reason, and they might like to have their opinion known.
That would only be one of the criteria out of a few that may or may not matter. Like having 100 posts, or having a few posts in the FF section. I'm not saying it's the only one. Plus, it's a yearly award so there will be plenty of time for reviews and nominations in an eleven month span.

I'd say more on the low quality side, at least the review is coherent, or other people don't think it's just a one-liner. But if you go around pointing out minor mistakes in the form of one-liners, that's something else...
Still, this idea is in the embryonic stage...

idk. I don't like putting some stipulations/tests on allowing people to vote. (But that may be my history nerd!side showing through.)
Maybe the voting criteria can be abolished all together and anyone can vote. But because I'm not for turning this into a popularity contest, the nominators are there.

I kind of went to SPPf to read through their thread about their fanfic awards because I like the way theirs was run. And then I noticed something that they pointed out.

Nominations. And the reasons for them.

Depending on what the category is for the fic in question, it might be rather difficult to claim exactly why one is voting for that fic. There were a few times where I would read a fic and either liked it or disliked it for whatever reason that I couldn't quite explain. Being forced to actually have to put that reason into words might make me not want to even nominate.

The fics that are allowed to be voted on might be more on the good side because it isn't a popularity contest, but then there's the voting time, and how do you stop people from voting? Tell them "sorry, your opinion isn't good enough because you didn't pass our tests" is just...suffrage based on knowledge.

But because I'm not for turning this into a popularity contest, the nominators are there.
I...was going to say something on this, but found that (haha) my girl and I had the same thoughts. So I'll just noink what she said on the subject because we're essentially the same person.

"That and I would think that the point of the awards in the first place would be to vote for the fics that readers liked the most. So, yeah, if just the most popular fics kept popping up on the ballot, then it fits with the whole idea (because readers thought they were well-written/had the best elements and so voted for and responded to them the most), right?"

So, basically, if the most popular fics get the most nominations regardless of if reasons are given or not, that means that it would still be the most popular fics getting the votes. Then, from the nominations given (say, if a fic gets five nominations, it gets moved to the voting round), readers can go out and look over the fics for each category (whatever they are) and chose the best from those.

My post feels all over the place. Best thing to do is to focus on one part of this idea. Nominations and how they are handled; voting and how it is handled; which stories are allowed; and what categories are being focused on. These all seem like viable places to start. And I'd be able to feel more comfortable going over parts if there was just one at a time. Otherwise cluster****!

Did you looked at last year's or this year's? For this year the reasons for your nominations are optional. But yeah, last year took me forever to write good reasons for the fics I nominated.

This year's thread. I'm way too lazy to dig through/find last year's thread. I think I was lurking for a part of last year's awards, and had looked at Dragonfree's nomination page that she had, and saw the *required reason field box for the choices.

But I definitely saw how this year, people wanted the nomination reason to be optional. If this goes through here, that's what I would want if the nomination part of the award process is kept.

What if fics were awarded points instead of just selecting one as "the best?" Like everyone could get a certain amount of points, and then award them as they saw fit to fics they liked. That way, even if your fic isn't "the best fic," people can still see that it was worthy of points to at least someone.

Or maybe we could have a "praise for fics that aren't your own" thread, where you pimp other people's work. I think that could be cool.

Man if we're doing something like this, I'd definitely try to at least get my next chapter out, which has been waiting too long, not necesairly as specifically per this contest, but rather, as a show of wrtership, that I have at least something else that can be shown and compared to, because write (sic) now, I have a poem, a choose your own unfinished fic, a one shot, and an unfinished chaptered fic. Oh hey guys it's me.

So, question: If we are doing some sort of awards, would they be for last year or what? Last year was a good year for me all around, with four chapters of TRINITY, all six chapters of TFCv2, both parts of Haunting, and 316. Surely there's something in there that would win. That hasn't already won other contests.

Wow, I...didn't realize I had written so much last year. I guess it's just because I had so many different projects going...

So yeah. I like awards! :D

Like a fic recommendation thread? Post to say "hey, here's this fic that you might like if you're looking for a good fic in X genre about Y" kind of thing?

Because if so, I would so totally be okay with that. It would mean less searching around for a fic to read that fits what I'm in the mood for reading.

Well yeah I know that's how they do it there, but I don't know if maybe you'd just wait until later in this year to do it and all and make the cutoff later last year (which would only really disqualify 316 I guess) or something. I dunno, guess it was a stupid question. I just wanted an excuse to post here again is all, really.

*Really just wants to see how many more awards that fic can win. Haunting too, since he knows that has a fair bit of fans around here.*

I consider it ironic that my one and two shots are more popular than my chaptered fics. Maybe it says something about what readers want. DX

Yeah. Basically you just say "hey, I just read this fic, and I loved it! It's about blah blah blah, and here's a link."

If you post in a fic to say "hey this is awesome because of this this this." what's the difference? Or, nominators might just need to post links to fics that they've reviewed or show proof that they have even posted in that fic to make sure they've read it. Also, posts must be constructive I guess, but that's normal regulations.

The fics that are allowed to be voted on might be more on the good side because it isn't a popularity contest, but then there's the voting time, and how do you stop people from voting? Yeaa, the voting thingy can go, but I'm all for the nomination system. Partially because I know that not many people do a lot of reading and not many people read fics that are longer than a few pages unless recommended by a friend.

The main problem with this is that readers don't usually get to reading more than a few fanfictions a month/week. So if say they've only read one piece of FF that they thought was good, and nominated that, then it's MOTM all over again. Which is why we have certain criteria that need to be met for nominators. After the nomination period whixh spans eleven months, we could have a voting period in which people pick, and read what fanfictions are on the list and vote I suppose.
This I think, would be a good idea. But then, as previously stated, how can you be sure that the nominator didn't just stumble into the FF section, read a fic, and nominate it like so?

    cluster****!
The asterisks have drawn my attention to wonder what swear word fits in with cluster. XD

What if fics were awarded points instead of just selecting one as "the best?" Like everyone could get a certain amount of points, and then award them as they saw fit to fics they liked. Yeah, that would be awesome. XD But still, anyone can do that. But I suppose you only praise a fic if you've read it sooo...

Or maybe, a three part system in which we nominate those that are in the "praise for fics that aren't your own thread.".
