It can be any trainer, gym leader, or elite 4 member you want. It can also be your rival.

In my experience I've had the most trouble on Bugsy because I only had a Bayleef.

Lance >_> It took me four tries to beat him. Sure, i could have just let myself lose and train some more, but i was determined, and eventually odds worked in my favor XD. I kicked all three of his dragonite's butts with my level 43 Vaporeon and Ice Beam ^^

Route 48, the duo who use Magmar and Electabuzz xD All my pokemon were like weak to fire or electric... :<

I lost the most to Bugsy though early on

Don't i know it >_> I FINALLY took down all three Dragonites and was facing Aerodactyl with Jolteon so it was a rush to beat out Rockslide over Thunderbolt. I'd get him almost dead, and then he'd use a full restore.. He ended up using like 5 in s row before i was able to take down his Pokemon.

Bugsy and his annoying syther >_< I picked chikorita....The battle was pretty epic tho, since it was a stall war with my Eevee and his syther (my Eevee knew wish and charm) Both times i battled him hed crit my Eevee eventually or Ahnihalate my Bayleaf.....So i traded over gamestop jirachi :D (Rare candied trained to equal level as the rest of my team lol)

Well, I haven't had any real trouble, considering I trained a LOT, instead of advancing into the game.

    Out of everyone, though...
Probably the generic trainers, like Red and Lance.

I've never had any problem with any of the gym leaders. Liz and Tate were probably the only ones that actually attempted to cover their glaring mono-type weakness. The "Elite" Four are also a joke, especially Lance. I mean seriously, dude has THREE Dragons. If you don't account for that you deserve to lose. Ice Beam = easy win. Ash (Red) is probably the toughest trainer for me, although I have yet to face him in HGSS. He is tough mainly because his team is diverse, I typically only have a team of 4 Pokemon, I don't use items during battle, and my levels are lower than his.

Exactly the same for me I got a Bayleef and Pigeoto, Pidgeoto could hold its own but the u-turn still killed it. So I traded the Bellsprout for the Onix and got rock tomb to kill it.

I started with the chikorita for the simple fact that I would be different. I'm working on my fifth badge (the gym in Mahogony Town) and I'm having a little trouble and I'm being forced to go back and level my growlithe because it seems to be my only usable pokemon (paired with my Kadabra) against the ice pokemon. I do agree though, that Scyther was a *****. I managed to get him by poison powdering him off the bat and, after i got the other metapod and kakuna out of the way, just synthesising and super potioning over and over again until the poison got him.

karen, but specifically her houndoom. my typhlosion missed all 5 focus blasts (without any modifiers) then karen pumped up 3 nasty plots and murdered my team with assorted dark pulses and flamethrowers. almost OHKO'd my kingdra with flamethrower, but i surfed it and survived

    this.

Half of my team at the time was weak to electric attacks, and the Magmar kep burning me, I was totally unprepared for it...

I'm laughing at all the people who are complaining about Lance and his Dragonite. I spent about twenty minutes in Victory Road getting my Feraligatr to Lv. 45, and he was at 47 when I actually got to Lance. I spammed three Blizzards in a row and didn't miss once.

Anyways, the most annoying would be a tie between Falkner and Rival at the west end of Azeala Town (I believe that's the place...). At Falkner I had a Lv. 13 Totodile and Lv. 12 Hoothoot, but that freaking Pidgeotto and it's Roost got me everytime. It took me ten tries and twice as many Leers from Alpha (Totodile). Then the Rival... I just couldn't freaking beat his Bayleef! My only Pokemon with an advantage over it was Gamma (Hoothoot) and all she knew was Peck.

Funnily enough, all those big obstacles that people always moan about are the ones I train for for sometimes an entire half-hour, and then they're no trouble. Example: Blue, Lance, and Whitney were all beaten on the first try. I'm currently gearing up for the massive training period for my battle with Red.

    Kimono girls -_-;

Namely the one with Jolteon, which wipes out my team. So, I went out and got myself a Cubone, which I have to train up from Lv. 17. :\

2nd rival battle. All his pokemon were easy to beat... then he sent out bayleef. It destroyed me... Synthsis and reflect ruined any chances of a easy victory.
