Except war deals with peoples' lives. Nobody wants a lose-lose situation when they're dealing with peoples' lives.
Politics doesn't work that way unless it affects your seat of power. To the government, everyone is a statistic. Unless of course, the people rebel if they see that the government is being unfair or immoral. It would however, take a very big force (i.e. religious tension) to instigate full support for the government on genocide. Now however, there aren't many people who are willing to go to war over religion just yet. It's just not economical.

A war like that would be impossible nowadays.
Not so because petroleum is depleting. Trench warfare is a viable enough solution when you don't have the gas to run your MLRS vehicles.

No one can be sure, tensions between countries have been going on since the dawn of humans (or whatever xD).

And I'd hate to be pessimistic, but I'm somewhat doubtful that the U.N. will be able to do anything to stop or prevent WWIII. After all, it replaced the League of Nations, which was created as a result of World War I and fell when it failed to prevent World War II.

I wonder if history will repeat itself, there will always be a possibility.

The way things are in Europe, the UK and the USA at the moment, much less unstable countries/nations, I can see it being a real possibility. Britain and Argentina are still on bad (and worsening terms). I know the USA didn't get involved in the last falklands war however after Britains huge contribution in Iraq and Afghanistan and the fact the Falklands is full of oil I dare say the USA would get involved this time if war broke out. China has being putting a lot into Africa, expanding it's reach and communist ideals to third world countries that easily have enough able bodied men to form formidable armies, and Israel has being pushing things too far for a while now. the USA is pressured for not acting over Israel, alongside the whole korea issues. If not another world war than we could certainly see another cold war. Let's not forget Russia threatening to turn off Europes gas supplies alongside their attack and susequent attempted invasion of Georgia.

The whole world is a really, really heated place right now.

I personally don't believe there will be a World War 3. People are far more intelligent now than they were in the mid 1900s, and there are much better solutions than blowing the crap out of half the planet.

However, if another war was to erupt, we'd all be screwed. :D

The tension is in all the right places, but nothing will happen. If something does, we just nuke the hell out of each other. Those who survive will become zombies, and those not affected will have to fend them off.

WWIII for me, personally will involve nuclear/atomic bombs. to me its most likely going to be Russia thats going to start it, sorry COD6 really did have a big influence.

But America and Britain started the war in MW2.

Russia won't start another big war, it's no way near the power it was when it was the USSR

It's not a matter or intelligence. It's a primal instinct that humans have. Pride, greed, and the satisfaction of destroying your enemy.

It is silly to presume that a third world war will never happen. It would not surprise me in the slightest if it happened started on this side of the century. Although, as much as you may want to deny it, war is the greatest force in backing technological advancements. The previous to world wars gave birth to the aeroplane and space-travel.

World War 3 will never happen.

Nobody wants a nuclear war. Everybody knows that everybody would lose, so nobody would even attempt to start one. Besides, war is primal instinct that is impossible to overcome.

Sadly not everyone is that intelligent. Eventually one nation gains power, becomes cocky and wants more power.

And it would be impossible for any country to invade the US, because the millitary is too sophisticated.

Hmm... you mean the army that bombed allied British troops who had called in air support, killing multiple people?

Privates Aaron McClure, 19, Robert Foster, 19, and John Thrumble, 21, died instantly when a 500lb bomb dropped by an F15 hit their position in Afghanistan in August 2007.

    P.S.

Intelligence has nothing to do with a war. A country just has a need for power and wants to prove to the world that they have that power to take over other countries, even if it means by force. Most people know that a necular war would lead to mass destruction to us all as we know it, but does that really matter to some people when you think about it? I think not.

I hope such thing would never happen. No one wants another World War, not with all the nuclear weapons in the hands of many countries. The aftermath would be so devastating that I'm not surprised that the next World War would be fought with sticks and stones.

There have been many times when the tensions between countries were so high that war was the only question. I thank our leaders that they are able to find another solution every time. Let's hope that such a thing happens again. It would suck big time if something like World War III were to happen.

Yes, and with the intelligence people have now, they know there are other solutions than war. Why do you think there hasn't been a war since 1939? Because we know we don't have to blow each other to hell. We know there are other diplomatic solutions, and the leaders of our countries manage to stop wars from brewing.

There have been countless times when countries had it out for each other, but did a World War start? No.

    first Indochina war
    Malyalan emergancy
    Korea
    Vietnam
    Indonesia-malyasia conflict
    Soviet war in Afghanistan
    Iraq
    Afghanistan
    Iraq again

The USA/UK/Aus/France/Canada or atleast 3 were involved in near enough all of those conflicts. USA, France and UK being the biggest of the allies in both World wars, and Canada and Aus being strong allies of Britain and the states. I know they weren't as big as either World War, however it shows there's still an alliance and still a chance.

Just because a World War didn't start, doesn't mean that other wars haven't been started.

War is defined as conflict between two social entities (i.e. countries). Do not try to tell me that there haven't been any wars since 1949 or I'll really consider you ignorant.

    Edit: @Fox:
    Malyalan emergancy
    You mispelled Malayan.
    Indonesia-malyasia conflict
I find the fact that people can spell Indonesia and Singapore just fine, but not Malaysia mildly insulting.

2012 is all I have to say

I can confidently say though that something humongous is going to happen soon. There is too much religious tension related to Israel and if something did happen we would most likely be drawn into a costly war. The Korea's are almost on the brink of war (again), and terrorism is sweeping the world. Plus, if you wanted to say this, China is edging the US right now technologically and economically, which could have a great effect in the near future. We're living in a time of fear and terror, and something unfotunately is bound to happen.
