To battle Fawkner recently I've been training up a Geodude because well i got nothing better, but i usually start with Cyndaquil so i barely use Geodude anyway.
I'm more of a starter person, i always rely on them and they never leave my party unless i have to get rid of them for a challenge or whatever

I used to be a starter pokemon, I'd always try an dtrade with my sister and her friends to obtain the three starters for my team in other Pokemon Games. I'd usually then have the three starters, a strong flying type (most of the time the local one: pidgey, starly) and electric type or dragon type and a ground type.

Welcome to the club! I think we need a new topic.

What did you do to the Red Gyrados?

i captured it, and boxed it immediately. I mean, I was doing a monobug run, so I really have no use for him.

    Same...

Not really a big fan of holding Pokemon who has 4x Weaknesses.

Plus, Shiny Gyarados is a nice Pokemon to have boxed up anyway.

Poor guy...never to see sunlight again.

Yes. Gyrados in the second gen was a meh! pokemon. It is supposed to be good, but cannot due to lack of moves. And shiny one is no excemption.

If Red Gyarados was suppose to be special of some sort, yes they should had given it some...'special' moves that a regular Gyarados cannot learn.

yes! Red Gyarados looks too much special (and its role ain't little either) to not be a special pokemon. They could at least gave it proper moves. Sadly, I think the only reason why they include it is to tell the world that shiny pokemon exists. Like:

"Hey! look at this gyarados! It's color is different! We albino pokemon exists! Come catch us!"

Well it depends... I use to box it, mainly because I always choose the water starter so, useless to own a second water-type. Or in my Gold Version, where I had exceptionally chosen the cute Cyndaquil, I kept it, to have a "pretty strong" water Pokémon. After all, we can't deny that Gyarados, shiny or not, is a tough Pokémon, despite its weaknesses.
And miltankRancher you're right, the reason of the red Gyarados' presence is to show people that shiny Pokémon exist. Because they're so rare, developers prefered include a shiny that everybody could find to prove that they are real.

Well, what I did to the Gyarados shifted from playthrough to playthrough. Sometimes I'd catch it and succeed, other times I'd fail, or I'd see no need having it on my team, so I'd just defeat it for the exp. I kind of saw the Red Gyarados as a semi-legendary, because back with G/S/C I didn't know about shinies and Gyarados was a pretty decent Pokémon, so I'd often save before it and try to catch it, even if I weren't gonna use it. I'd always go and do the events in Mahogany town after Ecruteak for no apparent reason and I often had to go out and heal in the hideout because my Pokémon were underleveled.

Though all-in-all, I usually caught the Gyarados and either used it if I didn't have a Water type, or stuffed it in the PC box.

I use the Red Gyarados as my HM slave with Surf, strength, whirlpool and waterfall
    and that's pretty much it

An epic Hm slave, my sir. A Shiny for an HM slave.

NEWS: I just recently caught Red Gyarados, with adamant nature! O yeah. I think I will be using it during the summer break to go against my brother. Haha!

So, I think it's appropriate to get a new topic now, so here goes.

'Which Gen II Pokémon do you think has the most uncreative design?'

I guess I'd have to say Remoraid, due to how plain its design is. Comparing it to its animal counterpart, there isn't much difference at all, no additional, interesting features to make it more than a simple fish. I don't get why it evolves into an octapus either. It may have been the same with Magikarp, though that was the first generation and they shouldn't really be expected to go on a creativity outburst due to it being the first time. Another example of simpleness in the design could be Ursaring. Not much to distinguish it from a real life bear.

Ursaring is pretty good for me. I like his design. Simple yet really realistic.

I however, agree with Remoraid. I mean, that does not even look like a Pokemon. He looks like something I can catch with my real life rod! Octillery is way no better.

Also, another Pokemon that comes to mind is Qwilfish. I mean, he's just a puffer fish for Arceus' sake.
