What would you say is the best thing about the pokémon franchise?

And if you want, what do you consider the worst thing about pokémon?

The best thing is that we get to play the games, rather for a cheaper rate than many would want. I'm not being extravagant, but the quality of the games is quite big and the prices are cheap. (for me, at least)

The worst thing is the age limit, I should suppose. 80% of what I do in the internet is Pokémon, so I'm rather embarrassed to talk about Pokémon with my colleagues.

I second Hoenn. The best thing about the Pokémon franchise would have to be their games. The story-lines may be similar in some ways, but they are still quite unique and never fail to make the games addictive. They make it extremely easy for us to be sucked into these Pokémon games. d: I also like the anime aspects of Pokémon, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to watch any anime episodes with the last three to six months. D:

The worst thing about Pokémon would have to beee... their trading cards, maybe. Well, they're not actually the worst, but I'm just not a big fan of them as I used to be. I used to collect their cards all the time when I was younger, but I've recently stopped doing it because of how much expensive they've gotten over the years. A single booster pack cost about five dollars nowadays, so if you want to buy, say, six packs at the same, then you're going to spend thirty dollars in total. Isn't that a lot? If you include taxes, then it's going to take you even more money.

The best thing for me is definitely the games. I have owned every game in the series from Blue to White 2 and I will own copies of X&Y soon. I am just constantly amazed at how great the games are and how Game Freak never ceases to amaze me. I don't think that I have ever been playing a game and be so disappointed that I couldn't play it. I am so excited for this upcoming generation because I know that the games are going to be amazing as always with dozens of new Pokemon to catch and many new areas to explore. I guess that I can say that it is a never ending adventure, haha. I also like the fact that the games never get old to me and I can play them over and over without growing tired of them.

I don't necessarily dislike anything about the franchise, but if I had to pick the thing that I know the least about it would be the cards. I used to collect them as a kid, but as I got older I just really lost interest in them.

The best thing about pokemon is the sheer variety of choices!

For the worst...hmm.... well, I don't necessarily like that Brock was replaced in the Gen 5 anime series.

Best Thing:
the games. Story mode. The semi free roam you have. the team combinations. there hasn't been a bad main series game yet. Though they should go back to releasing a game every 2 - 3 years than 1 every year. I'm fine with them releasing it R/B G/C R/S Fr/Lg D/P I'm fine with those releases. The manga is awesome

Worst:
GameFreak acts like mistakes don't exist, and cover everything in pokemon logic :[
Why do I need a incense to breed a pokemon? I wouldn't mind if game freak changed a few things [for the better]. Marvel Scale was an awesome addition!

I think the best thing about Pokemon is that it can appeal to so many different people in so many ways. Whether it be the games, the anime, TCG, manga, toys, etc., there's seemingly something for everyone to enjoy.

The worst part about it is that because its original peak popularity came in the 90s, people that grew out of it either say that anything past the original 151 aren't Pokemon, or that it's just a kid's game. The latter one I can kind of agree with as the franchise as a whole is directed towards kids and teenagers, but there's still a large number of older players of the games as well.

Oh, and while this doesn't really count, Pokemon's made me drop hundreds of dollars from my wallet on the cards, games and a few other things since I was a kid, so that could be one of the worst things, too :p

Best thing ... the pokemon themselves, all of them, even the haunted piles of garbage.

Worst thing ... making poffins, gah. Of course getting rid of berries completely is a very close second.

The best thing is that the Pokemon universe is every expanding and there is always more room for it to grow and change. If it had stayed like it was when the first games came out it wouldn't be all that interesting anymore, but they decided that they're rather expand and change and that's been a good strategy.

The worst thing is the anime. Maybe that's not fair, but it's the opposite of what I just said the best thing is. The anime. Never. Changes. That's boring.

For me it's pretty much what Scarf just said.

The best thing is that it's an open franchise. You can always add more to it. More Pokémon, more regions, more stories. There's no inbuilt limit. It's a unique shared imaginitive space that the creators and the fandom can both build on. It's a wonderful example of the possibilities of new media culture.

The worst thing, as Scarf said, is by far the anime. A couple of the movies are pretty well-produced, if improvable, but the anime is really flat and doesn't have much more than nostalgic value. I can think of a couple standout funny episodes (I was watching the episode where James poses as Professor Oak with my partner's four-year-old yesterday, and I think I enjoyed it more than he did), but not enough to redeem it as a whole.

It feels like such a wasted opportunity, given the plots of the games and the comics. Both the visual style and the storylines could be incredible, with what they have to draw on, and it's like they don't even try, even by kids' merchandising show standards. I'd have thought Pokémon would have quite a budget to put toward it by now, if they wanted to.

I'm not grumpy about the anime like I used to be. Like I mentioned, I enjoy episodes sometimes. It just makes me sad, imagining what kind of show the Pokémon anime could be. Especially nowadays, with so many great examples of what a kid's show can be (think Avatar).

The Best, has to be the games. Especially X/Y, I cant wait to see future generations..

The worst, I say the Anime, I got bored with it years ago and technically Ash shouldn't really be in anymore either. He really should be an adult by now..

I feel like this too nowadays. I've actually found the Kalos episodes so far enjoyable. Not like, really good anime, but compared to other pokémon anime I guess. Still, they could have developed the series much better. Pokémon has SO much potential in so many ways, just look at the PMD games for unusual examples.

The best thing about pokemon is the sheer variety of choices!

I agree with these two speakers :3 The choices and variations of the games make pokémon a special adventure and the same successful mix, I just haven't seen anywhere else. But also the pokémon themselves, I think are part of the best thing about pokémon. There are some really cool creatures, though of course some bad haha.

But the very best thing actually are the mangas. The sheer variety of settings, heroes and ideas about the pokémon world that is explored in those stories. If you don't like the anime, the manga should satisfy you so much more on those parts. Only trouble is that it's hard to come by in physical form. Most titles aren't even translated from Japanese :(

Worst thing... Maybe the anime, but only because it could have been so much different. It's not the worst thing ever created, but certainly not the best either. Really, I'll have to think some about what's worst about pokémon as I can't think of a great answer now.

Best Thing: The games of course! Ever since I first played pokemon diamond, I knew it was going to be a truly special franchise to me. I love every one of the games so much.

Worst Thing: Anime. It feels really repetitive to me, even though some episodes bring back a wave of nostalgia.

The best thing must be the amount of Pokemon in the series...over 700 are in now, and they're all diverse and awesome in their own ways.

The worst must be what people outside the fanbase think..how it's for little kids and all that..though that's just people's opinion. I don't really dislike much.

One of the best things for me is the fanbase; there are so many nice, friendly groups and fans out there.

... Aaaand... the worst part is... that OTHER part of the fanbase... -u-

the best thing to me is that, if i could be in an anime, pokemon would be my dream anime. It's a world where you can get a partner who you use to compete against other trainers so on and eventually rise to greatness. Worst thing is, they are getting lazy with the design.

Best: The main series games. They're simply brilliant and they're the reason I'm here in the first place.

Worst: The show. It's terrible.

Best: Fun and Easy gameplay with lots of replayability value because of battles and trades and pokedex completion.

Worst: It's kid stuff so I can't talk how much I love pokemon to my family, friends and every other people out there that doesn't know about pokemon and how much fun a game it is.

The best thing about Pokémon has to be the console. Pokémon is a great game, but what makes it my favorite is the fact that it has always been portable (aside from Colosseum, XD, etc.). I have been able to enjoy my Pokémon on the bus, on a plane, on train, in school, at home, in Japan and everywhere in between.

The worst thing about Pokémon is probably the story. I don't think the story arcs for the games are bad, but sometimes I think they are lacking a bit. I understand that they focus on selling the games to a younger demographic and don't want to add a novel-esc story to their games, but I feel like there is always a bit more the developers and writers should try to explore.
