  • I've had a couple drinks before while under the influence of the Dogg's pride and joy (yunno what i mean?) but I don't think I got drunk, maybe a bit tipsy.

I'm not a huge fan on the taste of alcohol and there are other things that I'd rather have if I want to get wasted -cough-420blazeit-cough- but I'll drink it every now and then.

Apple cider is pretty good though!

  • I drink like, 2 or 3 times a year xD

The closest I've been to being drunk was getting slightly tipsy. It felt weird, I honestly didn't like the feeling. So I'll probably never be interested in getting full-on drunk :P

  • I'll only drink a little bit twice a week at most on nights where I get really stressed out. I'll get a little more than tipsy which is the maximum I want anyway. Getting totally smashed isn't something I'm interested in.

I don't really drink at all to be honest. My family has a history of liver diseases and I want to do whatever I can to avoid that myself. Not saying I have never drank anything nor will I ever. It just doesn't really interest me. I'd rather get high

  • I never got drunk and I never plan to, because I know alcohol leaves such a bad taste in your mouth. My mother almost tried to give me alcohol but I knew how much I hated being embarrassed so I shoved her away.

  • This thread is... surreal.

Like everybody my age I've ever met (barring those who choose not to on religious grounds) yes, I drink, and yes, I have been drunk. It's so weird seeing so many people who haven't been drunk or are outright against the idea of it like... damn. o_O Maybe it's a culture / location thing but over here alcohol is just... a fact of life. You drink. Everyone drinks. It's bizarre if you choose not to drink. Regardless of why where or when you drink and you have most likely been drunk. Other than, of course, religious grounds again. Or recovering alcoholics I guess.

Also it's so weird seeing people in here saying "I get high / want to get high but no alcohol". It's not that I'm saying weed is worse than alcohol (it isn't) but over here alcohol is a social norm and with weed you don't see it quite that much. It's not uncommon but not an "everyone does it" thing.

Hey, there's no shame in it. Sounds like a funny enough story and it's cool that you didn't have so much that it got messy.

I think I wasn't very drunk since, I didn't had a hangover. And I remembered pretty much everything on the day after.

You may still have - it's a really common misconception (apparently, if this thread's anything to go by...) that being even slightly drunk means instant memory loss and hangover the next day. That's not even remotely true.

  • I firmly believe that everyone should get drunk once. It's not so much for the "fun" of it, but rather than alcohol is often in social situations in the future (Weddings, staff parties, etc.) and it's just expected of you to drink it. So if you know what it's like to be drunk, you'll have the experience not to potentially embarrass yourself because you'll know your limit.

That being said I've done my share of binge drinking and thrown up everywhere/been in ridiculous situations after getting beyond drunk. Terrible.

  • I'm not a big fan of alcohol. I don't like the taste of most alcohol beverages (except really sweet ones like cider and cocktails ... these I actually quite enjoy haha).
I have been quite drunk before but yeah ... did it. Wasn't great. Don't really wanna do it again.

I will drink a bit when I'm out with friends or so but I'm usually careful to not go beyond the point of slightly tipsy. I really don't need alcohol to have fun going out, even when the people I'm with are drinking

Okay so this is totally random but I couldn't help noticing that your location is Italy - what's drinking culture (if there is such a thing) like out there? I'm moving to Italy in a few months and it'd be cool to know what to expect. Like would you say the Italians are big drinkers, how important would you say it is, do a lot of people casually drink, etc.?

  • I do get drunk, whenever the occasion's right. I mean standing around drinking water in a party or a festival is hardly fun, plus like shenanigans said around here drinking really is the norm. It's also the usual birthplace of all kinds of stories aha
and if anyone's wondering yes I am underage shush

  • I tend to get really friendly when am drunk and pat people on the back and act their best friend, which is really not like me haha.

Ive never got really drunk to a level where I have embarrassed myself, not been able to remember anything or just randomly threw up lol.

Plus I don't drink much now anyway, just the odd beer, I don't really enjoy the whole drinking culture or going to the likes of pubs, bars or clubs, plus drunk people really annoy me.

Aslo you American guys well done you for not touching alcohol till its 21 and legal, over here everyone drinks as soon as they can and the authorises do nothing lol.

Aaah I don't know if I'm fully qualified to answer your questions, sorry! I'm not actually from Italy, I'm just currently doing a semester abroad and studying here ... I'll do my best to share the experiences I've had here, though!
I'm staying in Bologna which is quite the university/student city so there's loads of young people around who like to just sit together (especially around the campus area, which is quite close to the city centre) and drink a bottle of beer or so. They also quite enjoy wine (unsurprisingly). You can get decent wine for quite little money here.
There definitely isn't a pub culture like in England (which I kinda miss to be honest haha) but there are lots of bars you can go to! One thing I really enjoy is an "aperitivo" which is offered by most bars around here. It's usually a rather .... light drink, I guess, such as prosecco, wine or spritz (this one I really recommend for summer! Super refreshing) and it i often accompanied by a buffet of snacks and sometimes even warm food. (Basically you pay around 7€ for a drink and get free food. It's amazing). These aperitivi you usually get in the early evening ... around 7pm is quite common, I'd say. It's really nice to sit outside on a warm evening like that.
So yeah, I'd say Italians definitely drink alcohol but it's a different drinking culture to England's. In England it seems people drink mostly with the goal of getting drunk (at least young people/students), while in Italy you also drink just to enjoy the beverage, or because it's just part of a snug evening with friends... but this is not to say that Italians don't get completely trashed too ;>
I hope I could help you a little! If you have any more questions, I'm happy to talk more! Just send me a message or so, I can give you my skype name, too.

ngl, I'm not entirely sure what exactly qualifies as drunk. I've had my share of alcohol, and don't plan to stop any time soon. Usually the way I've thought of it is that I've been pretty tipsy before, and I've been beyond drunk. By beyond drunk I mean throwing up all over the floor and then blacking out shortly thereafter. The hangover the next day was not fun. Not like hangovers are supposed to be fun.

  • I drink quite regularly and have been drunk on several occasions. To me it's just something that goes hand in hand with social gatherings.

I don't like any kind of alcohol. So I've never been drunk.

I never got drunk and I never plan to, because I know alcohol leaves such a bad taste in your mouth. My mother almost tried to give me alcohol but I knew how much I hated being embarrassed so I shoved her away.

I have no interest in touching alcohol for the foreseeable future. Blacking out and waking up having no idea how you blacked out in the first place doesn't really seem like my idea of having fun. >.< Not to mention I like to actually be aware of what the heck I'm doing.

That's not to say that I haven't tried it before though....just generally not my thing.

Hahaha- No. I have never drunk nor do I will I ever.
Oh wow... You guys are better people then me. I can't abstain from shit, I have no will power.

I think it's cultural, social and generational. A lot of my younger sister in law's friends don't drink or are lightweights. I'd had plenty of drinks by the time I was a teen. Here they'll let you into bars at 18 and once you get in, the bartenders rarely card you. From 21-23, I was out at the bar with a group of friends like 5 nights a week, hanging out and playing pool after work. For me I like it, I love whiskey and bourbon and port wine is delicious. I enjoy getting a buzz and acting a bit silly, I'm a pretty happy drunk. As long as you aren't driving or starting a fight or getting all emotional and weepy, I see nothing wrong with it. It depends, some people are just really unpleasant to be around when drinking. I've blacked out before, and I've had plenty of hang overs just from drinking too much, that's no fun, not like throwing up, just wanting to go curl up and go to sleep. There's a big difference between buzzed and drunk. Hm, but yeah, I drink pretty regularly.

I see no shame in drinking, and the effect on your brain isn't that big if you drink responsibly. I mean, there are a lot of reasons not to drink, but damaging your brain really isn't a good one.

I do drink, I don't often get drunk though. I like to drink a beer or two when out with friends, but I don't tend to get drunk often.
