Okay so this is totally random but I couldn't help noticing that your location is Italy - what's drinking culture (if there is such a thing) like out there? I'm moving to Italy in a few months and it'd be cool to know what to expect. Like would you say the Italians are big drinkers, how important would you say it is, do a lot of people casually drink, etc.?
Aaah I don't know if I'm fully qualified to answer your questions, sorry! I'm not actually from Italy, I'm just currently doing a semester abroad and studying here ... I'll do my best to share the experiences I've had here, though!
I'm staying in Bologna which is quite the university/student city so there's loads of young people around who like to just sit together (especially around the campus area, which is quite close to the city centre) and drink a bottle of beer or so. They also quite enjoy wine (unsurprisingly). You can get decent wine for quite little money here.
There definitely isn't a pub culture like in England (which I kinda miss to be honest haha) but there are lots of bars you can go to! One thing I really enjoy is an "aperitivo" which is offered by most bars around here. It's usually a rather .... light drink, I guess, such as prosecco, wine or spritz (this one I really recommend for summer! Super refreshing) and it i often accompanied by a buffet of snacks and sometimes even warm food. (Basically you pay around 7€ for a drink and get free food. It's amazing). These aperitivi you usually get in the early evening ... around 7pm is quite common, I'd say. It's really nice to sit outside on a warm evening like that.
So yeah, I'd say Italians definitely drink alcohol but it's a different drinking culture to England's. In England it seems people drink mostly with the goal of getting drunk (at least young people/students), while in Italy you also drink just to enjoy the beverage, or because it's just part of a snug evening with friends... but this is not to say that Italians don't get completely trashed too ;>
I hope I could help you a little! If you have any more questions, I'm happy to talk more! Just send me a message or so, I can give you my skype name, too.
