Ugh tell me about it. Sadly, this is pretty normal for A&D around this time of year! Still pretty upsetting though. :(

yeah that's what happens around here >.< wish i could update my gallery on here. i love making artwork, but video games and life gets in the way. im glad i was able to enter icontest though!

Yeah, it's not terribly uncommon. Luckily, even in a lull, A&D is more active now than it was this time last year. Each year we get a little bit better. :)

That's definitely something I noticed! Haven't been on PC for that long at all but even the A&D board here is a lot better than the art/graphics board of the other Pokemon forums I've been on. Art sections (if there even is one) are just usually so dead. Understandably so, but that doesn't make it any less saddening, lmao. Members with galleries would post, like, five times in a row before getting a comment or two :'-[

Of course, it would be best for any artist to post their work in a art/graphic-centric community where they'd receive the feedback they deserve, the c+c they need for improvement, and the comments they may need to get motivated, but it wouldn't hurt to see the audience of graphic makers expand, even in communities that aren't totally dedicated to art/graphics.
But anyways, I'm looking forward to experiencing A&D when everything's in full swing. The Art School looks really interesting in particular :-D

I try not to take a moment of it for granted. I'm extremely lucky to be moderating the art forums of an actually active artistic (albeit Pokemon based) website. Like you said, so many others are dead if nonexistent and it's really disheartening because the members can be so, so creative when given the chance. I hate seeing that squandered, you know? That's a big reason why I (and Aiden, of course!) try to push so hard with this place and invite our regulars to be more involved in A&D's development/politics.

Very true. If you want sincere, professional level peer critiques there's better websites than this one. Few of us have placed our art into the professional sphere and that caliber of review just isn't something you're going to find here. But not for lack of trying! It's part of what I find so charming about A&D. :)

Probably makes me more sad because I don't have a job right now and I'm trying to do freelance but don't have any clients yet, but anyways! That's what I'm trying to do, is work on art and getting better, but honestly I've just felt very tired and burned out. I feel like I've forgotten what I used to do and how to make as much art as I used to. When I had a job I spent all day thinking "I wish I could go home and draw!", but now that I'm home all the time I'm having a hard time getting myself to do just that! I know the things that could get me out of it in my mind, but I just can't force myself to do it. Ugh! That's also why I'm trying to rework my class, so I can get myself back into the habit.

oh man, i hope you get some clients soon! that must be frustrating. :c and gosh i actually feel the same way! although i'm nowhere near where i need to be if i wanted to freelance or do commissions or something, drawing is something i've always loved to do since i was young and a few months ago i made the decision that i really wanted to actively work on practicing and improving my art and really push myself, because that's something i've never done before. it went really well for awhile, but i started getting the same thing you have where i'm having a hard time getting myself to draw. but! i'm not gonna give up, i just came here a couple days ago and i've been thinking about maybe setting up a gallery on here or something, we'll see. that might motivate me to work more so i can put more stuff out there, even if they're just sketches/studies. i'm sure soon you'll be able to get back into it too, especially since you have a class to work on that should definitely help! i believe in you! haha. c:

also i agree that the art section seems to have a lot more activity than the ones on other pokémon forums i've been on, which is exciting. it's also awesome that the mods seem to be so involved and passionate! i'm definitely looking forward to hanging around here and getting to know you all!

I like your attitude! Things like this always pass. As artists, and artists on the internet no less, it's not uncommon for these things to come in waves. The creativity, the motivation, the participation, the resources; seldom do they ever line up and work out for a long period of time. It seems to be just the nature of things, and A&D is a pretty prime example of that. It's a gift and a curse, haha. But at the risk of sounding cliche, we always bounce back!

Also welcome to PC! :) I hope you decide to post your gallery here!

I recommend you make a gallery on here! I mean, there's a lot of times that you won't get comments for awhile so don't get discouraged!
I've been feeling sick on top of this, but I'm trying really hard to push forward. I really need to make a series of illustrations or something like that, or a project to do with everyone else.

I'm not on other pokemon fourms, (I was a mod for a tiny one that died in flames but-) but yeah this is the most active I've seen a non art-centric overall forum! The key is to just keep on going even if you're not getting any attention. While exposure is important, it's easier to get noticed if you're regular about SOMETHING, comments or sketching. I'd be doing much better right now if I kept to a schedule!

right on! i agree, i think all artists have periods like that, where they have a hard time drawing or feel like they can't draw anymore. but definitely, i think as long as you are passionate and dedicated then you can do anything. also, thanks so much! i'm glad to be here, and it's nice to meet you! and i really do think i should start a gallery on here, as soon as i decide which drawings to use in my first post. c:

oh yeah! i actually think i will in a bit! just being around and connecting with people who are really into art is inspiring, so i think that's a big motivator as well! oh gosh, i'm sorry to hear that, being sick definitely doesn't help anything at all! that stinks, i hope you feel better soon. but kudos to you for trying to stay on top of everything even though you aren't feeling well, that's awesome!

and i totally agree, i think that being consistent is key! i was pushing myself to draw every day before, even if it was just a little bit, and i did that for a few months but the past month has been a lot more inconsistent haha so i'm just trying to stay dedicated and get back into the swing of things now. i hope you can find a schedule that works for you too, because i think that's a great idea and it would help a lot!

I'm feeling this. I've been in quite the artistic slump lately. It's really motivating to see A&D live up a bit again. This has always been one of my favorite sections to look at, and it was such a shame it got inactive for a while again. But it's nice to see all these unread threads all of a sudden. I should try and bump up my activity here again.

i understand completely, i'm going through the same exact thing myself... x___x lol. it's so frustrating. but honestly i'm right with you, just being involved in this section has been really motivating and inspiring for me as well! i can see myself having a lot of fun here. i agree! it would be really cool if you joined in too! i'm guessing you probably have a gallery around here somewhere? i'll have to check it out! and i'm sure you'll be able to get out of that slump you're in as well!

If there's anything I've learned, it's that you can't force artistic motivation and expect to be satisfied with the results. But you can surround yourself with it, feel empowered by it, and channel it into helping other people. Some of the biggest artistic slumps I've faced have been resolved by trying to help others with their own, you know? We all come out of them eventually. :)

Decided to update my gallery, previously some of my old links died, so, since July, I'd been too lazy to fix them (the forum literally stopped me from editing the OP). Got around to updating with some new stuff though, and I'm feeling pretty motivated to keep at it. Nice to see a lot of unfamiliar faces around too!

And I definitely haven't been around to keep up with Nina's class lately, even if I was just a lurker previously. I'll try to get back to that haha

Good to see you back Flushed! I'm guilty of a lack of motivation to update, but I'm hoping Nina''s class will give me something to help change that! I also wanna trying and really bump up the Art School and stuff so look out for that too.

Am also going to have a December update wherever my thread has gone xD

Just got back to PC after a couple of months. Finished off uni for the year up until next March, so after I finish some stuff this upcoming week it's back to work on new art designish new pieces and crafting up an online portfolio/facebook page for my next year.

Jeebus I have been gone for too long and now Aiden and Ice are both Mods too wow (probs epic late congratz guys :pp)
