    The Drink of Disenchantment
    ________________________________________________________________________________________
It has been over a century since the Battle of Hogwarts but peace has not lasted long in the wizarding world. Many copycats would emerge over the years to take Voldemort's place, to gain the power he never fully achieved, but to no avail. These criminals would eventually get caught and were sent to Azkaban, the notorious wizard's prison. The worst of the lot would be sent to deal with Alozandra Lane.

During her time as a student, Alozandra had been very gifted. She assisted her professors in their research and consistently stayed at the top of her class. She excelled in potions and many at Hogwarts wanted to see her one day become a professor of the subject. But then an offer from the Ministry of Magic came in that intrigued Alozandra more than any position in academia ever did. It was a tight lipped experiment that they had been working on for years, but couldn't get right. At Azkaban, they didn't believe in the death penalty, but still wanted a last resort punishment to inflict on this recent surge of criminals using dark magic. They needed her help creating a potion that would rid the drinker of all their magical abilities.

Alozandra worked tirelessly on this potion, until finally on a rainy day in April everything came together and the potion was created. They called it "The drink of disenchantment" it was clear and had a shimmering quality to it and was completely odorless. Alozandra watched, unflinching from behind a double sided mirror, as the first criminal drank the potion. She would do this a hundred more times, getting more and more frustrated with all the evil in the magical world.

Sitting with the executioner, they would talk about the rise in magical crime and how Hogwarts never truly had a period of peace. Alozandra argued that so long as magic existed, there would be people who abused it. To her, true peace would come when everyone gave up their magical powers. She also argued that magic created an unnecessary hierarchy between humans. Why should only a select group of people be allowed to use magic? To her, it was time to leave magic in the history books and return to normal life.

Over the next few years, Alozandra would begin creating a group of followers who believed in her vision. People who sympathized and understood the muggle world, who believed in total equality, who were tired of being scared to return to Hogwarts. That being said, other groups began cropping up all around: in high places and in small circles, who would stop at nothing to make sure this witch didn't get her way. Most of this was still relatively unknown to the overall magical population, the Ministry of Magic worked extremely hard to keep it that way.

But then something peculiar started to happen. Families began coming forward, telling tales of family members who had lost all magical abilities and memories of magic. More keep coming forward and the ministry is worried that Alozandra or her followers are behind this. Alozandra left her role at Azkaban and hasn't been spotted since.

As Hogwarts begins another year of schooling, whispers have begun to circulate around the halls. Some people doubt the potion's existence while others claim to know a friend of a friend whose cousin actually drank the potion. Others seem to think the potion may be hidden within the walls of the castle somewhere. Whatever the case, the students begin taking sides and joining their own groups to help Alozandra's cause, or to stop it before more wizards and witches are lost. It's a tense time at Hogwarts and the students are more determined than ever to learn about the mystery behind this potion, their magical future stakes on it.

    You're a Wizard!
    __________________________________________________________________________________________
You are playing as a student at Hogwarts who will be attending school while the fight between these two sides begins to grow and eventually boil. You'll learn more about these rumors of the potion, pick a side, and help fight for your side. Even though there is an overarching plot, this RP is still pretty open for you to explore Hogwarts. Attend a quidditch match, fight a troll in the dungeon, go searching for the Mirror of Erised, just make sure to pick a side and follow along with the major events that happen to help move the story along.

    Important Notes:
    - Under no circumstance can you go "Avada Kedavra-ing" around this RP. If you feel it is absolutely crucial to use this spell, talk to me about it first. For those unfamiliar with Harry Potter, this is the killing spell.

-In the story, your character is allowed to come across this potion. Whether or not your character drinks the potion and loses their magical abilities is completely up to you. You cannot force another person's character to drink the potion.

-You must make an original character. I do not want a bunch of Weasleys, Potters and Malfoys running around. They had their time to shine, this is yours!

    Sign Up Sheet:
    __________________________________________________________________________________________
The only players that will partake in this are students at Hogwarts. **Please note, do not mention in this sign up whether or not your character agrees with getting rid of magic. That will develop within the story** I'll control Alozandra, the professors major decisions and other minor characters as they come up.

The RP will be broken up into 3 arcs that will drive the plot. Each arc will have a few events that you can react with to help move the story along. You'll be able to post a few times per arc if you'd like, building your character and then responding to the different events and conflicts. Since it'll be easy to get adjusted to the story, I'll leave sign ups open until we near the end of Arc 2. Feel free to sign up, there's currently no limit (although each person can have one character)!

    Name:
    Calleophe "Cal" Orell
    [cal-ee-ohf]

    Year at Hogwarts:
    Year 4.
    House:
    Gryffindor.

    Birthday:
    October 11th

    Animal:
Cat, of the race Maine Coon. Female, big like a medium sized dog, named Aruba. She is highly intelligent, for being a cat. Possibly even magical. Calleophe definitely believes that she understands what he says to her.
    Spoiler:

    Appearance:
    -

    Patronus:
    Red Fox

    Personality:
Seemingly Lawful Good but maybe actually Chaotic Good. Respects authority, but has an underlying feeling that sometimes full freedom should be better. Very clever, but has a fear of being wrong or not presenting his cleverness smartly enough. Wishes that he was braver when it comes to believing in himself, but dreads the feeling of seeming stupid so much. He values bravery and standing up for himself and his friends, which is likely why the sorting hat put him in Gryffindor, while seemingly everybody had expected him to be a Ravenclaw and himself had guessed that he was "only good enough for" Hufflepuff.

Cal is very social and really doesn't enjoy being alone. He made friends very quickly at Hogwarts, and is generally one of the more well known Gryffindor students now, at least within their House. He still bears a sort of jealousy or even a feeling of being intimidated by Ravenclaws and Slytherins, and sometimes wonder if the life of a Hufflepuff is easier than the rest of them; Hufflepuffs are always praised as long as they work hard, stay honest and do their best. No matter how good or bad it is. Or so he's interpreted it. But he as a Gryffindor? He's seen as a brute - again, that's his own interpretation since he's actually not interacted much with people from other houses over his years here. He's figured it's better he stick to his own kind, people who see the world in the same way he does. Or so, once again, he interprets the social climate at Hogwarts. But is he right?

He does pride himself in pretty much not being scared of anything; he's not even easily astonished, and has good reflexes to be able to jump out of the way of pranks or even unwanted tacklehugs. He's not really seen as an attractive dude physically speaking, but his personality has given him a few admirers in the years below him. His classmates aren't really interested in him in that way though, which according to him is a pity. He is bisexual and has somehow managed to grow borderline romantic feelings to both of his best friends, Kayla Thornes and Wesley Abramson. Not that he'd ever let them know though. That's just how he is, he has an easy time taking a liking to people. But things are better off hidden. Probably forever.

    Background:
(Family life, life at school, pure-blood/half-blood/muggle born, favorite classes, etc. I'd like this section to be at least a paragraph or more to really get to know the students.)

  • If it's a magical RP, you can bet I'm on board. I'll take any chance to play a mage!

    Name: Star "Sheri" Sheridan

    Year at Hogwarts: Year 5

    House: Ravenclaw

Animal: A Great Horned Owl named Glider.

Appearance: At 5' 2", Sheri is short for her age, with large brown eyes and a small nose that make many people call her cute. Her skin is a light cream color, and her auburn hair reaches midback. She's short but solid, with strong legs and soft curves. Her favorite color is blue, so she wears blue bottoms under her robes (a skirt when it's warm, pants when it's cold).

    Spoiler:

    Patronus: Cobra

Personality: Sheri is openly friendly and welcoming, happy to meet new people. She enjoys sizing up people's abilities and interests, so she knows where they best fit in. She is also somewhat of a stickler for the rules, official or self-imposed, and in general is very tidy and organized. She projects the appearance of a kind and focused professional, a facade to hide the fact that she is rather timid and easily gets nervous. She struggles under pressure, unable to deal with chaos or disobedience, and her temper has caused her to lash out at those who push her too far.

Sheri loves to read, is very skilled in using magic, and enjoys experimenting, due to her curiosity. She prefers to take charge of situations, only grudgingly lets others lead, and gets envious of people with more skill than her. She doesn't like others to see that side of her, and keeps a smile on her face while she waits for her chance to take over.

Background: A halfblood with a magical mother and Muggle father, Star's parents owned and operated their own little shop in London, Sheridan's Secondhands. The front half functioned as a Muggle thrift store, while the back half sold secondhand spellbooks, robes, cauldrons and the like. While her father may not understand much of the wizarding world, he tries to be supportive of his daughter, while her mother would prefer if she stayed out of the Muggle world. Sheri herself enjoys both sides of her family, and wishes they could interact more, although she understands that neither side is very tolerant of the other.

A capable student, Sheri generally does well at school, especially in Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts, due to the varied and versatile curriculum sating her curiosity. Classes such as Potions or Transfiguration, which are more limited in scope and don't tolerate improvisation or experimentation, fail to hold her interest. Her tendency to involve herself with groups means that most of her classmates know her, but she has few actual friends. In fact, outside of classes she has a hard time finding anyone willing to spend time with her, and she often finds herself alone.

Even away from school she has few friends. Most of her friends are Muggles that she has one or two common interests with, allowing for limited interactions. She doesn't have a boyfriend or girlfriend, but is cautiously optimistic that this will be the year she finds romance. If she can work up the courage, that is.

  • Harry Potter

    Name: Peter "Binge" Malcolm

    Year at Hogwarts: Year 6

    House: Hufflepuff

Animal: A barn owl that goes by the name Rats. *props to those who can get this*

    Appearance:
    Spoiler:

    Patronus: Squirrel.

Personality: There are two sides to a Binge Malcolm. The first side is the story behind his nickname, Binge. He was known to be a vastly-read individual. It's been joked around with his friends that his first love (and probably his first bestfriend) are books. He almost always spends his free time reading in some form. Whether it's newspapers, or his academic requirements, or some casual books by Muggle Authors, Binge Malcolm will always be holding some sort of printed press at any time. He was challenged one day, during his second year in Hogwarts, to read the full account of the story of the legendary wizard, Harry Potter. That was seven books, all-in,all. He managed to finish all of it in almost two-and-a-half days, and yes, he did eat and sleep during that time, contrary to popular knowledge. However, despite his ability to read fast and read well, Binge Malcolm always have a hard time in studying and requires himself to always read his requirements at least twice to understand what's happening and what's supposed to happen. He is known to flunk written exams and quizzes before and is an almost-disaster in practicals.

Beyond this, Binge is a happy person. Even though he's not excelling well in his classes, he does not let this hamper his happiness one bit. His fairly positive attitude flows towards the people around him and thus exudes an aura of simplicity. He always strives for maximum happiness in his life, whether by virtue or by vice. While this attitude and outlook in life may be viewed as beneficial and good, it leads to Binge being naive at things as he choose to ignore those that can bring sadness or hurt in his life.

Background: Binge Malcolm is a Muggle-born wizard. He had a fairly normal childhood, being raised in a family of good standing with his brother. He went to primary school and learned that he was not really fit for studying as he struggled even with the basic math. His life changed when the letter came to him in his eleventh birthday. Of course, his parents were very skeptic at first. 'Who still sends letters the old-fashioned way?' they said. They immediately dismissed the letter as a scam or a hoax but young Peter knew otherwise. He saw the letters switch around when his parents were not looking. That was enough proof for him.

He decided to convince his parents to let him go, or just see if it's legit. Reluctantly, they agreed, knowing to themselves that it would be a fool's errand. The letter came with instructions to go to a particular place and, by god, the whole family was astounded. It was a whole alley, aptly named Diagon Alley, filled with shops selling things you don't see regularly. There was a cacophony of people, wonderful and colorful people. Peter Malcom was fascinated with the new world he was suddenly entrusted into.

Fast forward a few more months, Peter Malcolm was sitting underneath a talking hat (still a first despite all the things he saw) and was properly sorted in Hufflepuff. Everything was normal for Peter in Hogwarts and he wouldn't have it any other way. Despite having a hard time difficulty in most of his classes, he excelled well in Muggle Studies and Defense Against the Dark Arts, with the latter being his favorite subject.

As of now, Binge is in his second to the last year in Hogwarts. He's dreading the O.W.L.S, knowing full well he really did not exceed in one field. He vowed to push himself to his limit and try to at least ace some subjects.

Ayy, I remember HP. I'd feel guilty reserving a spot, but I really liked Tonks and her abilities as a Metamorphmagi, so I'll probably go down that route with my character.

Speaking of which, will there a character limit/limited spots to join?

I'll clarify this in the main post, thanks for asking! :) As of right now, each person can have one character. I also plan on having the story follow 3 arcs with different events happening within each and I think it'll be fairly easy for new players to get involved during the first two arcs. If I do close down submissions, it'll be near the end of arc two.

So if you'd like, feel free to reserve. You can jump in pretty much anytime after the IC is up.

Also, I'm excited to see these new students coming along :D

  • Name: Rosalind McClain
    Year at Hogwarts: Year 6

    House: Ravenclaw

Animal: A tawny owl named Malcolm (named after the prince in MacBeth )
    Spoiler:

    Appearance:
    ravenclaw_zpsr8qgqpwi.png

    Patronus: Sabretooth tiger

Personality: Rosalind is a third generation Ravenclaw, and proud of it. She is quirky, to say the least, often times blurting out things that make no sense, and flashing an awkward yet excitable smile at those who appear confused. She carries a great deal of affection for things others might call mundane tasks, such as making lists and unknotting tangled string and jewelry. She adores puns and plays on words, even the worst of which make her laugh. She has been known to stay right outside the Ravenclaw common room in order to hear more riddles.

Rosalind isn't the most social of student: She has a very active imagination and adores going off into her own little world to daydream, sometimes claiming that those within her mind are more interesting than those around her, but she is quite friendly to those who can keep her attention (although generally those who get her attention aren't trying to).

Background: Rosalind is a half-blood: Her mother is a former Ravenclaw (as was her grandfather) and her father is a muggle astronomer. The family lives in a small farm on the outskirts of Scotland, far enough off the main road that her mother can openly use magic without fear of salesmen or delivery persons catching a glimpse. Rosalind's father, while more than supportive of his wife's magic, is still a muggle, and passed many of his 'muggle interests' down to his daughter: Namely a love of comic books, action movies and over the top Soap Opera television (which the two often watch together and laugh at the sheer implausibility of).

Rosalind excels in Astronomy, in a large part due to her father being an astronomer, but her favorite class is, by far, Defense Against the Dark Arts. Learning new ways to ward off evil doers often fuels her already over active imagination, and excites her to no end. She (to a lesser degree) also enjoys History of Magic for a similar reason, and finds Transfiguration to be a very 'charming' class. Meanwhile, Potions and Herbology do little to hold her interest.

Rosalind loves animals, claiming that those who cannot speak tend to be far better creatures than those who can. As such, her favorite elective is Care of Magical Creatures, where she openly admits her dream of one day owning a unicorn/dragon farm. In her first year she was known to sneak out after dark to spend time with these magical creatures, as she was too young to take the class.

Random information: Rosalind has never seen death, thus she cannot see Thestrals, though she is aware of their existence and enjoys bringing them treats (to other students this likely looks like Rosalind is talking to herself as she walks like a mummy in order to find them through touch)

Rosalind is hoping to sign up Alchemy, if it is in high enough demand this year. She also wishes to take part in one or more extra curricular classes; ancient Studies, Ghoul Studies, Magical Theory, or Xylomancy.

Yeah-yah! First Slytherin is ready to go now.

By the way, how do you think the roleplay will kick off, Kyoko? Will we start on the Hogwarts Express, be already in the banquet hall? Or will we skip all of that introductory stuff and begin immediately at the start of the year?

  • Oh gosh and to think that I also want to be a Ravenclaw

Is there a limit to the amount of players/when you'll stop accepting SUs? I'd sign up now, but I'm going to be very busy the next two weeks and I don't want to join just to disappear for that period.

Can I reserve a slot please? Thanks :3

    Here's my SU :)

    Ivan Thermopolis

    0OlE9U4.png

    Name: Ivan Thermopolis

    Year at Hogwarts: Year 5

    House: Slytherin

Animal: a female Collared scops-owl named Plume [image]

    Appearance: (see photo)

    Patronus: a panda

Personality: Ivanis a happy-go lucky guy, he is adventurous, friendly, smart and caring to the ones he loves. He likes to explore many places ; one of his dreams is to travel the world. He has a very strong sense of responsibility and becomes upset when he is unable to help others. He likes to experiment with magic and with the flora and fauna of the wizarding world, he is seen to think outside of the box, thinking of creative and uncanny ways to escape a situation. Resourcefulness and somewhat ambitious, though a Slytherin by heart, Ivan believes that "All the bad guys are in Slytherin, but, not all Slytherin are bad guys"

Background: Ivan's life before going to Hogwarts was not always a good one. Both his parents (his mother and father were both a witch and a wizard) were hardly at home, choosing to go out after work whenever they could, and often leaving him alone at home from an early age, leaving him to fend for himself and his little sister. They would, of course, drop them off and pick them up from school until Ivan was nine and deemed old enough to go on his own, towing his sister along after him, if only to keep up appearances.

When he got his Hogwarts letter, his parents jumped at the chance to send him to boarding school as they'd wanted to, without having to pay for it. They would have sent him to another school from the age of 13 had he not been accepted to the magical school, but this gave them two extra years, as his sister would be old enough to look after herself now in their eyes and so he was sent there without being told entirely what it was he was being sent to prior to going to Diagon Alley.

He worked hard at school, treasuring the time he could spend with friends, being free not to worry about everything as he had before. He'd had to grow up too quickly, and so after a little while of getting used to life at Hogwarts, he realized that he could be a young person again.

Still, he felt constantly worried about his little sister, sending her owls almost constantly to be sure that she was okay. The day she owled him back to say that she'd received her letter as well and would be attending the school the following autumn was the happiest day of his life, the proudest being when she stood up in front of the school and was sorted.

His favorite classes are: Potions, History of Magic, Transfiguration and DATDA

Yeah-yah! First Slytherin is ready to go now.

By the way, how do you think the roleplay will kick off, Kyoko? Will we start on the Hogwarts Express, be already in the banquet hall? Or will we skip all of that introductory stuff and begin immediately at the start of the year?

    Opal is accepted!

The RP will start up about a month into the new school year :) So there will be time to build up your character a bit. I'll plan on having a few different things people can react to for each arc, but they'll be a bit spread out.

Oh gosh and to think that I also want to be a Ravenclaw

Is there a limit to the amount of players/when you'll stop accepting SUs? I'd sign up now, but I'm going to be very busy the next two weeks and I don't want to join just to disappear for that period.

Nope, no limit as of yet! The RP will be driven by events within 3 arcs and I feel like it'll be easy for new players to jump in and get adjusted to the first two arcs. I won't be closing until then~ Feel free to sign up and post when you can!

Can I reserve a slot please? Thanks :3

    Here's my SU :)

    Ivan is accepted!

Aw, I kinda wanted to write out a scene on the train, but starting later would probably be better in the long run.

    Nice to see another Slytherin!

I'll have more info in the first IC post, but I expect the first posts to be more character building-focused and I'm sure you can have a flashback sequence or talk about something your character experienced on the train :)

And I'm just hoping a Hufflepuff comes along soon </3
