I didn't use Heracross in any battles. I also have a Roggenrola, which isn't Normal-type, but I got it when I traded away my starter and I never used it either.

EDIT: So, here are some more huge problems with XY I noticed:

1) Forgettable characters. What is special about Diantha, for instance? Yeah, you see her a few times before you battle her, but other than that she has no role outside of being Champion. She doesn't really do anything else. Compare her to Steven or Cynthia, who have big roles even before you know they are Champions.

Lysandre is also not integrated into the plot very well. He doesn't do much whenever he appears, and when you finally do battle him, the tension is ruined because you have to fight him over and over again. He is also very obviously a villain from the beginning, and his motivations are pretty lame. Basically, he only wants privileged people with lots of money on their hands to survive. I understand that this is probably some jab at French monarchy, but all Lysandre does is talk about this one goal. He's a completely flat character. In DPP, Cyrus is this same time of character done correctly. He has a clearer reason for his motivation (which is not just picked to serve the theme, although it does do that), his battles are spread out over the course of the game, and he shows a wider range of emotions... ironically.

The Gym Leaders don't make much of an impression on me either, to be honest. Korrina did all that stuff with Mega Evolution... but it just felt like an excuse to get a Lucario. Valerie wants to become a pokemon, which sounds cool... but it never really comes up. And those two are the Leaders that I liked the most! I can't quite put my finger on what's wrong with them, just that the interactions with them feel kinda pointless.

2) Worse than the forgettable characters are the annoying characters. As I've pointed out already, Sycamore is a complete moron yet somehow attracts lots of admirers? Why?! I also can't believe that he trained under Professor Rowan, my favorite professor in the entire series! Then there's Dexio and... whatever the other one's name is (I'm not sure which character has what name). Their personalities are just annoying because they try to make silly jokes while stopping you in your tracks. The nameless aides from earlier games were better! Then, of course, there are all the rivals. Calem/Serena is a flat character with no motivation other than being a trainer. Trevor is a nerd, and Tierno likes dancing (I may have gotten them confused). That's it. Shauna is the only one I like, because she is clearly aware of her weaknesses even though she tries to cover them up. She also has more than one personality trait, unlike the others. I think every other game in the series has better rivals.

3) Way too many obvious roadblocks, that is, the game almost takes pride in how linear it is. Want to grind on the Route next to the town you just got to? You probably can't because "the power is out and it's dangerous" or you "need Mamoswine to take you there" or "you shouldn't leave if you have business with the Gym Leader." Well hey, what if I wanted to go to that Route for a minute to grind because the Gym Leader uses Fighting-types and I only have Normal-types? Didja think of that, Game Freak?! The worst excuse for a roadblock was probably the one out in Dendemille Town, where there are two construction workers who say that "Durant tore up the road."

In amazingly good news, Miltank, Furfrou, and Eviolite Eevee are super strong for some reason, and I caught a shiny Heracross! ^^ Too bad it has a bad nature, but still, trophy shiny!

Woah... cool... that's what I mean--it would be a temple based on the fusion, like how the Crystal Temple is based on the fusion of the Crystal Gems.
