  • The beta available in the closed thread is the latest one "for the public to download".., meaning, it's the latest one for you to get. So what I have with me, doesn't have the same updates on the public beta.

    Kinda. I guess you could think of it like that. Sure, there's a program inside the game which is run once per frame and it changes the images of, say, the flower tile depending on how much time has passed.

    I guess all I can say is that you should try to be original. Nobody likes to see the same old thing done over and over again. Now, I'm not saying that you have to ditch the 8 gyms/evil team plot. But you should definitely try to add some new elements. After all, that's what hacking is all about: bringing new life to old games.
    Well, the code isn't exactly "tied" to the tiles. It is run once per frame when the player is in the Overworld and it basically changes some tiles to a different image depending on how many frames have passed, effectively creating an animation.

    It's hard to learn ASM hacking if you don't have any previous experience with programming but if you want to give it a shot, you should read HackMew's tutorials (they are somewhere in the Tutorials section, I think).
    The lamppost animation project was done by hacking the routine which processes tile animations. Not only was it expanded to animate the lamppost tile, I also inserted a little bit of code which checks the current time of day. If it's not between the hours of 9 PM and 4 AM (or something like that), then the animation won't be shown. It requires some ASM hacking though so it might be difficult.

    I don't know about the Fire Red Day/Night System question. I'm an Emerald hacker so I don't keep up-to-date with developments in the field of Fire Red hacking. I think that ZodiacDaGreat and interdpth released a DNS that works for most 3rd generation games so I guess you could give that a try. I can't tell you how stable it is, though.

    Right now I just finished scripting all events in the Good Side of Chapter 6, and now scripting the bad side of that chapter.
