Fair enough. I can live with that. And I suppose making the issue a federal one, rather than a state one, as you suggested, would make that entire argument irrelevant anyways. I can't say I'm especially in favor of the act, but that does explain a lot. (I think I'm going to do a little of my own research as well, just because.)
In any case, I'm of the opinion that if my side of this can keep their heads then change will come like it always has. It's just hard to imagine the federal government swooping in and taking charge of this so suddenly, especially since gay marriage support has grown so rapidly in recent years. If anything, the debate is bound to be a tug of war for a long time yet.
